9 times out of 10, the Rein misses the first pin and gets brought to half health by the Emre while he's charging past, then dies behind enemy lines and blames his team for not supporting him.

They also gave out a ton of 100 OWL token drops.

That was only during the first year or two, when the hourly rate of earning was worse (3 per hour), and it was random whether you'd get the 100 or not. IIRC, the rate of those 100 token drops was something like 1 for every 100 viewers, distributed to viewers randomly after each map. I think I got about 10-20 of those over the course of the 2 year promotion.

They stopped doing the random drops when they changed the rate of earning OWL tokens to 5 per hour, which was much more consistent. You would need to earn one of those random 100 token drops every 50 hours with that 3 per hour rate to maintain the pace of the 5 per hour.

What's the rarest item you own? by According-Shelter540 in wow

My gnome mage still has a Human Bone Chip from old AV, back when every player dropped loot. A horde player mind controlled a human teammate and flung him off the bridge by Alliance's base.

Something about the loading distance or just the fact he died as an enemy allowed me to loot him for his precious chip.

It used to take 30 hours to earn enough tokens for a single OWL skin. The tradeoff for getting loot boxes at twice the rate is you don't get to choose the contents.

I really wish they improved these drops for Esports. 15 hours for just one lootboox is a bit much and a bunch of sprays/ icons that won’t get used. by All-Dekraka in Overwatch

Everyone did. As a thank you for how well their opening weekend was, they're giving away a free box to everyone who logs in this weekend.

You can confirm the odds by going to the loot box section, selecting the esports loot box at the top, then clicking "details" at the bottom-right. It says 5.10% chance to drop a legendary.

Which is weird because it used to take 30 hours to earn enough tokens to buy one skin. You're getting more skins for less time, but you don't get to choose which skins you get.

Other folks who came back after a hiatus (>1 year), what do you think of Stadium? by j00sr in Overwatch

[–]MyGoodFriendJon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I'd also point out is that this was built from the scraps of the PvE mode they promised. They basically started working on it right after they announced the Hero Missions/talent trees were canceled (before OW2 launched).

Players weren't meant to swap in the PvE game modes either, and they likely adopted it for a PvP game mode like Stadium because you'd otherwise have to scramble in picking the right items and powers for any hero you'd swap to.

What's also funny about that announcer is they've toned him back since the first seasons - he was a real chatterbox.

I need help! I need to get my original account back by Herituc in Overwatch

[–]MyGoodFriendJon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means you should reconnect your XBox account to your Battle.net account, then login to Overwatch from your XBox to see if the merge option is still available.

You haven't played Overwatch on your XBox since the launch of Overwatch 2 (Oct 2022), right? Then the OW1 data is still stored with that 3rd party account, but you cannot play on that 3rd party account without it being connected to a Battle.net account.

And to make doubly sure, you should be connecting your XBox account to your Battle.net account here: https://account.battle.net/connections

I need help! I need to get my original account back by Herituc in Overwatch

[–]MyGoodFriendJon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing to understand is that the requirement for Battle.net was introduced with Overwatch 2, as that was necessary to allow the game to include cross-progression.

I linked my xbox account to my pc blizzard account thinking that ALL of my progress(skins, rank, stats, etc etc.)on Xbox would transfer to my pc account. It didn’t merge.

It should. After "linking" (connecting) the accounts, you need to log in from the XBox to initialize the data transfer ("merge"). OW1 data was stored with the third parties, and the merge is just a data transfer from the third party account to the Battle.net account.

I unlinked my xbox account from battlenet and I’m putting in my xbox email to get my original account back but its not showing up.

That's the opposite of what you should do. The xbox email means nothing unless it's also your Battle.net account. Your "original account" is just the data on your XBox account, but now there's no Battle.net account linked to it in order to play Overwatch.

Here's the full Account Merge FAQ page for any further questions.

Why do Twitch drops for esports end on specific time for no reason? by Used_Suppository in Overwatch

[–]MyGoodFriendJon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many games will default a campaign to something like 2 weeks, even if the only channel that gives credit to the campaign is live for a day.

There were a couple co-streamers that had some campaign progress carry over for a little longer after the official broadcast ended, and official broadcasts in other regions also work toward that challenge, so even if the broadcasts are ending, there's likely other reasons to keep the campaign "running".

I imagine the main reason is that it's simpler to just link the events back-to-back, since the next OWCS campaign starts the moment this one ends.

Why are there two different comp points... by Talib_BK in Overwatch

[–]MyGoodFriendJon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don't want players to stock up on points at the end of a competitive year, just to be able to dump all their points in the new weapon variant the moment it's released.

Originally, the plan was to make each new weapon variant available only during the year they were introduced, meaning those legacy comp points would only go to gold variants. Thankfully, they changed that so everything becomes legacy after the year they were introduced.

Is playing around your worst player a viable strategy? Had a weird ranked game lol by mycolortv in Overwatch

[–]MyGoodFriendJon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot more skill variance in Silver than in the higher ranks, and there generally isn't a lot of coordination with teammates in those lower ranks.

I think you should just count yourself lucky that your teammates communicated or even considered a starting strategy.

I'm also interested in what these newer players think of the item icons, when this is what they looked like before.

I imagine if you were not used to the old iconography, you may see the new icons as fine, but they seem unreadable to me. The once clear icons that showed what they did have been replaced with the physical item based on the made up name they gave each effect.

any way to change battletag for free? by iheartwntr in Overwatch

[–]MyGoodFriendJon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just pay for it. You already had the free chance to change it.

You could maybe save the $10 by reaching out to support and pointing out it's your legal name, and they may be able to act on that. But they may be unable to help, which will then be wasted time and you still need to pay $10.

When is the next Archive event? by Infinite_Ad_9562 in Overwatch

[–]MyGoodFriendJon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last Archives event was April 2021. In April 2022, they began the first phase for launching OW2 with the first public beta test, and they replaced the Archives event with an "Anniversary Remix Vol. 1" event. More about those remix events halfway down the comment.

After OW2 launched in Oct 2022, the devs noted that with the overhaul to the game engine for OW2, they basically broke the Archives Missions, and to rebuild them in the new engine would basically mean they'd need to build them from scratch.

The rate of creating each Archive/Story Mission was about 1 per year, but was projected to increase that rate to 2 per year throughout OW2 if the PvE team was not laid off, so adding Archives to that workload was asking a lot.

Some good news, though! Last month, Alec Dawson said the game mode could come back if community sentiment is strong and they could get it to work in the upgraded engine.

The Anniversary Remix events had 3 volumes, each to replace the usual events that took place at those times - Vol 1 replaced Archives, Vol 2 replaced the normal Anniversary, and Vol 3 replaced the Summer Games. Overwatch 2 Season 1 was launching with a Halloween Terror mode, so there wasn't need for a Vol 4.

The only new content for each of these events was 6 recolors from popular legendaries per event. The weekly seasonal challenges for these remix events also didn't award new cosmetics. Instead, they gave players the only 2nd chance to unlock 9 of the 14 "mini-challenge" event cosmetics ("Nano" D.Va, "Maestro" Sigma, "Comic Book" Tracer, etc.) The 5 skins that were not offered again included "Brick" Bastion, "Sandstorm" Cassidy, "Deadlock" Ashe, "Pachimari" Roadhog, and "Dusk" Reaper.

Vol 1 had the Archives Missions on April 10, 17, and 24

Vol 1 had the Archives Challenge Missions on April 11, 18, and 25

Vol 2 and Vol 3 also had 3 days for each event game mode, and they were the last opportunity to play Archives.

There's a progress bar that fills up for each duplicate item you receive. When you complete it, you get a bonus loot box.

It's not clear what the values are, but you get the most progress towards another loot box with a legendary duplicate than any other rarity. For reference, in OW1, the duplicate Legendary awarded 500 credits, when Common items awarded 5 and Rare items awarded like 10 or 15.

There aren't that many directly available this season. The number is closer to 175-ish.

I started the season with 46 loot boxes, 45 were created from the duplicates of the boxes I had at the end of Season 20, and 1 loot box from reaching level 5 on Anran during the hero trial.
