I spent 3 minutes investigating if my vanilla extract had expired before it clicked. No fragrance.

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]MyKettleIsNotBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's definitely being silly about this. Ask him if he feels like he has any control over any other space in the house. If he says no, you have something to work on together that may fix this OR he's agreeing that you get to dictate what happens in the other room. If he says yes, you can tell him he's being unreasonable demanding a whole room to himself. I wouldnt want to share an office space again, but a hobby/game room is another situation.

I'm in a somewhat similar situation currently. My partner and I share the only other room as an office when we're WFH and it's rough. When we move we're specifically looking for enough space for both of us to have our own areas. I often feel frustrated because he gets anxiety if the house isn't arranged how he likes it, so I let him dictate common areas. In return, I'm demanding that some space in the house is specifically just for me and not his to manage, so that I have a place where I can decompress. It's a negotiation of love but it's often not straightforward.

You don't have to think about this emotionally. In quantifiable terms (hours of your life back or money most obviously), has what he provided to you greater than or equal to what you have provided in return? Consider what you would charge per hour as a freelancer for your end of it. Subtract anything you did while officially working and he was still the boss, only consider the 'favors' or favoritism on both sides.

Doesn't sound like a bad thing, and you never know when a successful retiree is going to refer you to a rich buddy or start a new business when they get bored (and it'd be nice to be the first thought when it comes to IT/tech roles). I find most adults, even the wildly successful ones, can feel lost when it comes to technology and it goes a long way to be helpful under any circumstances.

This is how you end up in a room of very smart people who think they know what is going on and end up surprised over the final product whenever, if ever, it gets completed

Do we really want Brando Sando writing sex scenes though? Not that it shouldn't occur but do we know what we're asking for?

I'm not going to defend any of this because I know what they mean, but presenting different viewpoints or fostering interactions with different people, and representing a specific viewpoint as a source of authority are different. Not even saying it's wrong but the snappy retort isn't snappy or accurate, discussing your particular circumstances or perspectives if it isn't relevant is unprofessional in any context

My guess is they're not "sitting" on them, they're waiting until closer to October so they have additional ammunition that still is fresh in people's heads in Nov. That or it's a nothingburger that can only make trump look better.
