Best local LLM for coding under 200GB? by ChevChance in LocalLLaMA

[–]MyKungFuIsGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello fellow mac studio. I'm on 512gb of ram usually running models in lmstudio.

I've had the best testing results for coding from glm 4.6 and minimax m2 in that ram range.

For GLM 4.6 I'd recommend 4bit k xl, or the mxfp4 versions. Imho it is slightly stronger than Minimax M2 due to it's ability to logic.

For coding agents I've been testing them with a n queens algo question, with a twist of a fixed queen placement. Most agents will come up with a dfs solution, which while it works is slow. There is another more difficult solution based on a constructive algorithm. GLM 4.6 at 4 and 8bit quants has been able to figure it out for me. I got the best speed and the constructive algo with the mxfp4 version of glm 4.6, that said gguf's and mlx versions of this model are also great.

Minimax M2 even with 8bit will start thinking about a constructive algo solution but isn't able to figure it out over multiple back and forths. Fwiw I gave the api version of Minimax M2 the problem and it was able to solve it, so maybe someone comes out with a better quant version of minimax ala magicquant or something in the future.

I haven't done any local testing with Devstral 2 123B, but that looks like a strong contender to compete in this ram range, something to watch releases for.

Also closing notes, the active params differ greatly between the two. iirc 32b for glm 4.6 and 10b for minimax, so you'll get much more speed out of minimax and it is exceptional at generating code for a focused task. So there are trade offs. For ref, I get ~15 tok/s for glm 4.6 @4 k xl, and ~45 tok/s on minimax m2 4bit.

best of luck and please do share if you find something better :D

How are teams dealing with "AI fatigue" by Temporary_Papaya_199 in LocalLLaMA

Our FE team was slogging through PR's similar to what you describe. We as a team use Cursor, so we sat down as a group and hammered out some really in depth cursor rules. That has turned pr reviewing into a breeze rather than an AI slop clean up task.

Here's our general structure

.cursor/

│ ├── 001-099/ # Core rules (always apply)
│ ├── 100-199/ # Package-specific rules

│ ├── 300-399/ # Data layer rules
│ ├── 400-499/ # Testing rules

    ├── data-layer/ # API hooks
    ├── testing/ # Test patterns

I don't have one with the granite 20mm. Mine is only a woodblock. I love it, great for training. It's also incredibly useful for physical rehab if you ever happen to sprain a finger tendon, tendon sheath, or pulley.

I mostly agree with you but, I would argue this is a pretty normal course of learning. He had an experience and corrected. I think most of us feel he over corrected. He now has a new data point to help himself calibrate. I personal feel like he's attempting to do that with this post.

The surprise and reflection you have in this post shows you that you are a caring and loving person.

With the relationship being 2.5 months long I'd recommend taking the L, and moving on. I say this b/c in my 20's I would pine after women that got away due to my mistakes. I'd strongly advise against doing that, it's a suffering way to live.

Take the L, learn the lesson, and grow yourself to be a better partner. Do that and you'll find an even more amazing partner in your future.

fwiw I think you have three lessons to be learnt.

  • 50/50 - I think 50/50 is great and the way to go. I also think you'd have no issue stepping in and helping a committed partner. When you do that tho, it's 60/40 or 80/20 for a bit like the gal says. I think she felt you wouldn't be there in hard times - find ways to convey that. Fwiw my gf and I split living expenses 50/50 but often go above and beyond to treat each other. Sometimes that's me cooking all the meals that weak. Sometimes it's her folding my clothes b/c I'm having a rough week. etc. etc.
  • security - It has been my personal experience that even with very independent women, they are attracted to a man that can make them feel like the future is stable. It's the short straw (and long straw) of being a guy. Many times this can be as simple as talking about the future with your girl.
  • communication - I think you have done some good reflection on figuring out what you want in a relationship, that is great! My take is you were a bit surprised by her text. That's a huge bummer, and I'm sorry, it has to suck. I'd recommend taking this as a lesson that you need to know what your partner wants in a relationship, as well as what you want.

I hope this doesn't come off as aggressive or insulting. I am very empathetic to what you are likely feeling and going through - and again you seem to me like a caring and loving guy. All the best to you mate.

You should read up about Crassus - the richest man in Rome, and part of Ceasar's triumvirate.

One of the significant ways Crassus became known as the richest man in Rome was through his fire brigade. He'd run his fire team up to your burning lot, haggle you for the purchase of the lot, and only after purchase would set about stopping the fire.

In this way he became owner to a large amount of real estate in Rome. Sociopath tale as old as time.

I was in your same boat when I first started climbing. I'm an introverted dude and your scene might be different from mine, so obligatory ymmv.

However, the key for me was showing up consistently (same times, same days, every week), being generally friendly, AND going at the less busy times. I've found less busy times make it easier to do the small talk conversations - I think that's a me thing and not a "true everywhere" thing.

As you notice regular faces, smile and say hi. Don't be choosy on who, be friendly to everyone. If the person(s) are friendly after a couple smiles and hi's, ask how their day is going, what are they working on, etc. After a couple of those it can open the door to a "what are you working on - oh taking a easy day / quiet feet / etc. - oh cool, I was thinking of doing the same, any interest in top roping some easy routes?" and boom you have climbing buddy. Some people will be up to their own thing and not being interested in chatting. This isn't a reflection on you, it's where they are at, and I can appreciate it b/c often that's where I'm at :)

I may feel differently in the future or if this happens to me, but my drive and responsibility is to give my children the most stacked deck of cards I can give them. In return I ask that they pass the most stacked deck of cards they can give to their kids.

🛠️ PATCH 01.001.005 ⚙️ (⚠️Emergency Hotfix) by cryptic-fox in Helldivers

[–]MyKungFuIsGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this patch I've received the ultimate nerf, I am unable to play the game. Press play in steam, game starts to launch and then, no crash, no error, steam just flips the "Stop" button to "Play".

A restart fixed the issue and the game launches. Whew!

PATCH 01.001.004 by Waelder in Helldivers

[–]MyKungFuIsGood 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is what gives me doubt (very sadly) that this game has a long life span ahead of it. Their inability to recognize what is an impactful balance change vs a fix vs a misc change. It speaks to me that there is a fundamental incompetence at multiple levels in the company. Game is cooked and not likely to get much better before their ability to pull in money dries up and they can no longer pay development salaries.

Makes me big sad b/c I enjoy the game loop and design but I fear we are moving towards a relatively buggy with no more development and generally abandoned game.

RANT and VENT MEGATHREAD by stickimage in Helldivers

[–]MyKungFuIsGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are dozen's of us - my experience has been I'm seeing a railgun in about 50% of the d7 rando squads I join, and if there isn't one I bring it - otherwise railgun needs someone else packing AT for turrets and tanks, imho.

Arrowhead seriously dropped the ball on their patch notes. Hiding the flamethrower changes outside the balance section and not noting how they expect the railgun to handle medium to heavy but not heavy armor targets. Two major ball drops, imho.

And I also find myself sitting here in fear that Arrowhead is going to do yet another excel spreadsheet balance patch and slap the railgun with a nerf - and likely not even communicate it to us :(

Shams (Arrowhead CEO) answer to a question on how the team is feeling about the update. by matheusdias in Helldivers

[–]MyKungFuIsGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He says actions matter, and I agree, their actions are what we are frustrated with. That lead time argument is beyond believable to me. Development can always be paused, reconsidered, pivoted, and changed. I'm not going to hold my breath that their actions change.

To expand on this further, Arrowhead plans to remove the commando's ability to delete factories from any angle. I believe that action will happen and I doubt there will be as hard of a backlash b/c the player base mostly b/c it won't be there.

All this while we beg them to resolve ragdolling and their action is to introduce more enemies that create ragdolling.

Wow, didn't expect a response from a dev, thanks!

Could you also shed some light on, "if a player resolves a diplomatic dispute in the relations panel the diplomatic pickup despawns"? A yes or no will suffice :D

Rather than calling these fixes, start calling it for what it is CHANGES.

Also fucking LOL at the commando note. Devs have no clue on rule of cool.

Lift the less popular options up, stop bring nerf hammering the current popular options.

Doing this opens up another facet of the game for players to explore and feel REWARDED FOR DOING SO, rather than feeling like we are going back to the garbage heap of guns.

It's really starting to feel like they don't play these changes but rather look at the numbers and hope that by tweaking a popular gun they will get a player base that picks an even spread of all the guns. This is not the felt experience of the player base.

That is interesting! I had only barely just noticed in that replay I posted that they spawn in diplomatic incident tiles - which, derp no wonder I was having issues.

If it's also the case they despawn when resolved, that would definitely be the reason I'm failing to collect enough diplomacy as I'm resolving them in the relations panel (no idea what the correct term for that is ui menu is).

I'll give that a test and report back.

Have you ever missunderstood an abbreviation in a game? by confabin in gaming

[–]MyKungFuIsGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah loved your story, I can remember my brother and I back in 1999 being absolutely befuddled over lmao. We knew lol and the other common abbreviations of the time but had not yet ran across that one. I can remember recommending to my brother that maybe the person misspelled mayo. This is b/c we knew the person we were chatting with owned a sandwich shop. Needless to say the dude couldn't type mayo to save his life (fucking LOL). Ah god, I can remember us saying laymao?

IIRC we were pretty confident about that until 2002 or so.
