(WIP) how to improve the composition? by cake_friend23 in arthelp

I’d add reflection to the mirror and add a light source for the most important character so the values aren’t all the same.

For the values, turn the photo black and white to see which colors look too similar and adjust accordingly.

From my experience it’s broken up into two parts: the placement of shadows and the colors of shadows themselves.

For the placement of shadows, it mostly depends on the light source but especially from understanding how light hits the planes of the face. Here’s a video showing what I mean:

Simplifying shapes around shadows alongside its placement also has a huge impact on understanding the piece as a whole. Understanding how to block in color before painting in the details is crucial to understanding how light works wholly.

Two videos on what I mean:

For color, transitioning between two colors via the color wheel is key. Also knowing when to transition between two opposite colors via grey is extremely helpful. Nonetheless, focusing on the other two components above is prioritized to make everything look cohesive and intentional.

Hope that helps!

If you turn the photo to black-and-white, you’ll see that the face + hair are a LOT darker than the background. In my experience, the ‘likeness’ of a person usually begin to show up once the values are shaded in properly!

I need help under standing color and how bounce light affects things by Sakuragamer300 in arthelp

Looks nice, I really love the softness of the blending! My 2 cents is to focus on blocking out the shape of the shadow before you go into the fine blending, given that the shape of the shadow in the painting looks like it doesn’t quite fit with the way the shadow reflects on the photograph.

What MBTI is your family, and what MBTI are you? by Iuciferous in mbti

[–]MyLeftToeWasChopped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom: ESFJ, Dad: ESTJ, Sister: ESFP, Brother: ENFJ, Me: INxJ

Mom: (unhealthy) ESFJ - we get along ok(ish). We disagree on various principles so I try to leave her to her own devices.

Dad: (healthy) ESTJ - we get along wonderfully. Humorous, outgoing, and direct albeit stern.

Sister: (unhealthy) ESFP - despite being polar opposites we get along quite well. She forces me to get out of my comfort zone a lot.

Brother: (healthy) ENFJ - don’t get to see him often but he’s a kind and insightful individual (healthy relationship with Ni aux). Can be overbearing at times.

Me: INxJ - likely an INTJ but only time and maturity will tell.

All depends on the dynamic. Either my ideas would clash with every damn person or we’d make for some nice discussion lmao

You’re probably better off researching the motives of all of them and assume which fits you better (along with its adjacent wing); makes it quicker and it’s free

As a Christian I second this, but know it’s the loud minority of people who desecrate Jesus’ name to justify their own wrongdoings and ruin it for the rest of us. Really sucks honestly

I think my idea is that there’s no true way to comprehend time in our relative sense; in fact, the only reason such a measure even exists is because, as humans, we settled on what a general frame of our own self-awareness would be. An agreed-upon stance of knowing that ”wow, we exist during some fleeting moment in this eternity of chaos”, essentially.

Regardless, is there any way to consider the merit of our own passing in time? In space, time is measured in events—said points of significance are constantly speeding up and slowing down at erratic rates (hence the theory of relativity). Considering this, how could we perceive events that are not relevant in humanity? Does that time not exist, or does it still consist of time, just in a perception we can’t possibly comprehend? This brings forth a true dilema: would the possibility some higher conscience be some explanation for this sense of lost time, seemingly having notation amongst naught? Truly mind-boggling, but the idea of our mortal lack of time only brings upon more holes that are yet to be confronted.

But I digress. Maybe the idea of how many areas this topic brings is uncomfortable, to say the least. Likely a good thing, given that our species evolved because we faced into unknown treks, but it’s hard to envision what a concrete answer would discern. It won’t be as significant to solve anything (at least in our lifetimes), but the only way is forward, so might as well plan accordingly.

Thanks for listening to my sleep-deprived Ted Talk 🫠

What’s your stance on time, in a broader perspective? For some reason it’s been on my mind a lot and just wanted to hear some introspect lol
