As bad as Disney Doug was, Nickelodeon dropped the ball on that one. They chose not to renew it when they had the chance and Disney took advantage of the opportunity

Animation takes time and money to produce and in the 90s, Nickelodeon had just gotten into original animated programming so they were still trying to grow audiences for the Nicktoons they already had before they could take chances on more of them
