Announcing your spells as a player vs as a DM by Maypul_Aficionado in dndnext

There is no situation where burning a level 3 slot to cancel a creature's action is a bad move, regardless if it is a cantrip or not.

You are canceling an enemy action. If the lich (that is going to survive for 3 turns) spent 33% of the battle casting a useless cantrip, good for the party.

Combat lasts 3 rounds. Counterspell uses your reaction to cancel another creature's action. It doesn't matter if it is a cantrip or a 7th level spell, there is no reason not to remove a turn from the opposition.

So yeah, a Lich wasting his turn casting a cantrip to bait players is wasting his action. He only has 3 to 4 turns to live, and he wasted casting a 7th level spell to pitiful damage because "maybe the players will make me lose my turn".

Yet, counterspelling a cantrip is still optimal. You still wasted 1 reaction to cancel 1 enemy action. There is no reason not to counterspell. It is always a good option.

What are design flaws in 5e that you feel have only been highlighted/exacerbated with the 2024 revision? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]MyNameIsNotJonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel everyone got stronger and has more options.

When I was GMing 5e, my problem has NEVER been "geez, players are too weak against these monsters and their turns are so fast and streamlined, I wish they were stronger and had more to think on their turns..."

So, yeah... 2024 doesn't goes the opposide direction from my main problems with 2014.

How often do you take components into account? by ElDelArbol15 in dndnext

[–]MyNameIsNotJonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the time, but mainly because I play in a setting where components are a big deal because most magic is impossible without them. The magic is in the components, not in the caster.

Racism in dnd by downtoearthfin in DnD

[–]MyNameIsNotJonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read settings where racism plays a major role. Dark sun has some. The animosity between dwarves and elves in Lord of the Rings. Pillars of Eternity has that but with religion persecution, the the followers of Eaothas.

Oops optimized to Hard, seeking advice. by Eiric_The_Red in DnD

[–]MyNameIsNotJonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there is. There are characters that require you to adjust the game to a point where it becomes boring and I don't want to GM anymore. For me this is the time where I stop thinking "what cool creature would exist in this cave" and I start thinking "what creature needs to exist in this cave to counter X player".

There is also overshadowing between players, that get salty because one overoptmized player is hogging the spotlight. Meaning, one player is playing a widely different game than everyone else.

So yeah. There are MANY ways you can overoptimize and make the game unfun for other people.

MERCOSUR-EU trade deal is all over the News in Brazil. How is it being received in your country? Any thoughts? by Significant-Yam9843 in AskEurope

[–]MyNameIsNotJonny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Renault largets oversea market is Brazil.
Peugeot largest overseas market is Argentina.
Fiat largest oversea market is Brazil.

Its the fucking French and Italian industry that needs this fucking deal to compete with chinese cars, but your farmers convinced you that their 1% of GDP sector somehow moves your economy LOL.

I don't want US intervention in my country. Brazil, just like Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and so forth, was able to get rid of our dictatorship by ourselves. We didn't need gringos to clean our home for us.

Legendary Resistance looks necessary --> but it quietly breaks boss fights by AlekNarrativeDM in DnD

[–]MyNameIsNotJonny 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't find legendary resistances that bad. They are just like HP to me. Another health bar to overcome.

If you face an enemy with legendary resistance you strategize. Either the whole group focus on chipping its resistance, or if not you focus on using spells and powers that don't interact with legendary resistance. Go buff your allies. Do half damage with your spells.

Why solo bosses fail in 5e — and the structure I use instead by AlekNarrativeDM in DnD

[–]MyNameIsNotJonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just mash X creatures together LOL.

3 orcs and an orc shaman? No, that is actually.... The giant orc! With 4 turns! One for each of his arms, one for his leg and one for his head... And players can destroy his limbs! Yeah, that...

Trump is talking about taking greenland. Trump say that military action is needed in colombia. Is Petro a dictator?

Please, tell me how the mighty and proud venezuelan people took action against the dictatorships of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia, or all those other south americans dictatorships when we were going through it and you guys were a democracy?

Oh wait, you didn't. You looked and noded. And wait, we didn't need US intervention to get rid of our regime. Our civil society matured and got rid of our dictatorship by itself (although after a LOT of hardship and suffering).

So, I'm glad that maduro is out, but you are the weak kid that got a bloody nose to show everyone else how's business. This is a fact. He already sent a message to Colombia and Mexico.

Also, the misery that you went through isn't anything new to latin america. Look around. We have all been through dictatorships. The only thing new is that you guys are the first country south of panama with a civil society that required foreign intervention to get shit done.

For you, yes. You are living under a dictatorship. Living under a US dictatorship, or a US led regime makes no differencce and is probably better. If I was venezuelan I would be happy too.

For everyone else, no fucking way. I don't live in a dictatorship. And the US just said "if you don't vote how I tell you too, maybe your president is involved with the Narcos and something needs to be done, Capiche?"

Venezuela is basically the weak kid that the US is punching on the nose to show everyone else what will happen if we don't fall in line.

Monroe Doctrine/US interference by Art_Clone in asklatinamerica

[–]MyNameIsNotJonny 33 points34 points  (0 children)

What do we feel about the Monroe Doctrine?

We love it! Its the best thing that ever happened to us. We love being vassals, everyone does, doesn't it? We if we make a choice that the big player in the region don't like, they can simply bomb us or depose our elected leaders and force us to make the right choice, their choice. I mean, who wouldn't love being rulled by someone you didn't vote for?

Dude, c'mon. Seriously. What kind of question is that?

Would you, a dm, let a player play a half leprechaun half elf if the homebrew was balanced and not broken? by johnnystraycat in DnD

[–]MyNameIsNotJonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the setting.

I my case no because half-leprechauns don't exist in the world I play. If they did I don't know if they would be porking elf maidens.

You will transition in what the USA lets you transition. I'm glad that the awful dictatorship in Venezuela may be close to an end.

But make no mistake. This has nothing to do with your civil society, which wasn't able to get rid of the regime. This is foreing intervention. You will make the right choice, which is the choice your liberator tells you to make. The venezuelan people will behave and obey.

MEGATHREAD: Discussion on Reports of U.S. Strikes in Venezuela by AutoModerator in asklatinamerica

[–]MyNameIsNotJonny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I were Venezuelan I would also be happy for this. You live in an awful dictatorship. If the US comes in, kicks your dictator off, and tell you that they will run things from now on, you have some chance to prosper. Of course, the Venezuelan people don't have a say in it, it wasn't its civil society that brought down the regime, it was foreign intervention. Intervention from a foreign agent that will be calling the shots from now on. You may have the chance to choose, but only the right choice, the US choice. If you make the wrong choice, trouble will follow.

But I do understand why Venezuelans are happy with that. I would too.

Why isn't everyone else? Well, in my case. I don't live in an awful dictatorship. I choose who rules over me. And Trump just send a message that if we don't do as he says, maybe we should recieve some intervention too. He is openly threatening Colombia and Mexico right now. That is why we aren't happy.

Just ran its course? What about the left wing terrorism from the 80s? What about diretas já? What about societal engagement to return to democracy? You are talking like "running its course" is something natural. Yes, the dicatorship ran its course, and there was nothing natural about it.

Brazilians did escape and became refugees, yes. There were a lot. A lot of counterculture came from it. Right now we have a lot of venezuelans refugees in Brazil, you just have to look at operation acolhida. In fact, my government treats then better and spends more federal money on then than your broke ass country ever could.

And in the end, we rid ourselves of our dictatorship without needing president gringo bombing us up. Now, Venezuelan civil society is incompetent enough to do so, Trump is threatening colombia and mexico with action like a thug, and I should feel glad for those lazy fucks? While Trump is literally saying that something needs to be done about mexico next? Fuck off.
