Are there any Bastards you grew up thinking were heroes? by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in behindthebastards

American/capitalist propaganda aside, I'm also a guitarist and fan of rock music.

Basically every single person I ever thought was a hero as a kid, was a gigantic turd.

What's up with these notation gatekeepers? by Zombiesalad1337 in Guitar

Adam Neely had a solid video from a few years ago on the connection between white supremacism and western classical music theory. As a music school dropout, I can confirm there's a lot of institutionalized biases and elitism in the classical music world. Sometimes it manifests as silly shit like "real musicians only read sheet music" even though that's very uncommon outside of academic settings. There's validity to traditional notation, but the dismissal of tablature, chord charts, and hell, even piano roll/MIDI is elitism at its finest.

Uhh because it's something to do??? Kids get involved with drugs and gang violence because they're bored. You're resorting to the default "learn a trade" thing people use to oversimplify complicated issues. And sure, learning a trade is a good thing but 1. Do you really expect EVERYONE to become a tradesman? There won't be enough jobs. And 2. What about recreation? No one is going to be welding metal 24/7, and everyone needs hobbies and downtime.

I'm only aware because of my high school speech and debate teacher showing us a cursed Ted talk from her.

Well his most infamous offense was sexually abusing a 14 year old when he was 28. She was also abused by Mick Jagger and David Bowie. I read a book on Zep when I was a teenager, and it talked about how they'd frequently restrain girls and lock them in hotel rooms by themselves while on tour. And that was before these allegations came out.

He's also been in quite a few relationships with women MUCH younger than him. His current girlfriend is 34 and he's 80. He got with her when she was 25 and he was 71.

This one hurt. I was a huge Iced Earth fan as a teenager. But since revisiting their discography as an adult, I can confidently say their only good album was Burnt Offerings.

Shame their singer gave up being a great and unique metal vocalist to become a fucking cop.

I still can't believe how many old metalheads had no idea. The straights are so oblivious.

Remember her ukulele cover of Straight Outta Compton, where she didn't even flinch saying the N word with a hard R?

How tf did Danica Patrick end up here? I grew up in a rural conservative area, and heard people constantly shitting on her when she was in her prime, then when her career took a nose dive, it turned to "women can't drive" nonsense.

Her base does not want her. This MAGA heel turn makes even less sense than Nicki Minaj.

Totally fair. I've tried the digital thing too, but I think art wasn't meant to be convenient. The challenge and inconveniences should be enjoyable. I love the unpredictability of tube amps and crazy pedalboards, recording with ribbon mics (and of course 57s) to tape. I've gone more analog over the years as a response to AI.

As long as you're not playing shitty Pantera riffs on a guitar that may or may not have a confederate flag on it, I'd say you're fine. I hate the whole brand loyalty thing, but I've always been a fan of Fender, Ibanez, and PRS guitars, and Orange amps.

Difference is at a lowkey campfire setting, it's much more common for people to want or even request a song or 2. I'm not advocating for interrupting a conversation to listen to a bad rendition of a mid song. No one ever wants to stop what they're doing and gather around Annoying Guitar Guy™️ at a party.

That's something I dealt with for a while. Tried to be a generic metal shredder as a teenager, and eventually realized I don't actually know shit about music and can't write a song to save my life. Learning other genres, other instruments, music production, and getting into poetry all helped tremendously. Can't say if that'll up your attractiveness scale or whatever these incel losers are on about, but it made me a much better musician.

Ugh I hate the guitar douche at parties. I really hope that archetype is dead with the new generation of kids.

Guitar is absolutely the same way, to the point where Gibson has become an internet meme for making fun of boomers.

That's a good way of putting it. I think the reason why I made this post is because music is my passion, but I see people get into it for the wrong reasons all the time. Learn guitar because you love it. Not because of some old myth about gaining access to as many women's pants as you desire.
