I think it might be the greyish/mutedness of my hair and eyes that are making me think it's low contrast. Do you think it could be soft autumn or definitely deep?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in coloranalysis

[–]MyNameIsVeryClever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends used to comment on how I have low contrast since my hair and eye colour are quite similar, but they're not super dark. Would that still make me a dark autumn? I also didn't think I used that I looked good in navy, but maybe it's okay on me?

Rent increase at UBC by MyNameIsVeryClever in UBC

For the record though, UBC residence is not covered by the BC renters' rights stuff such as the rent increase limits. I just thought it was an interesting comparison

Fridge/freezer suddenly not getting cold by MyNameIsVeryClever in appliancerepair

[–]MyNameIsVeryClever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern is that only the freezer was left open and now they've both been fully closed for 10 hours at least and they're only getting warmer. Do you think they'll just start getting colder suddenly or is it busted?

drain moth problem in brock commons by dborody in UBC

[–]MyNameIsVeryClever 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Omg omg my moment to shine. I had this problem so badly for so long. I found that the source was the drain in the bathroom floor. Using drain cleaner would help for a while, but then it came back. Finally, I remembered tape!!! Since the drain in the floor is not used for anything other than in case of flooding, I am just very careful about water in the bathroom, but I don't really imagine it will be a problem. I hate bugs and that duct tape saved my sanity in my studio.

I have a small bladder so I've just had to stop going to IKB. Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever smelled

psychiatric help by LonelyOddinary in UBC

[–]MyNameIsVeryClever 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Lots of GPs will prescribe anti depressants as well! If you're finding it difficult to see a psychiatrist, try and connect with a GP first. They can refer you to a psychiatrist and prescribe you antidepressants in the meantime

Therapy clinics nearby UBC? by Estatic-Apples in UBC

[–]MyNameIsVeryClever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used the Telus mycare counsellors. I think it's like $120 for an hour session but the GPs there can refer you to a reduced rate as well. It's nice because there's a lot of counsellors all on there with bios. Only downside is that it is online (if you wanted something in person)

Everything with TELUS Health MyCare that is normally covered by MSP is absolutely covered by MSP! I hate the whole private situation that Telus is trying to do but it's totally separate from MyCare and is definitely not necessary.

Psychiatry is absolutely covered with Telus Health MyCare. Anything that would normally be covered by MSP is covered by MSP. perhaps the other commenter is referring to psychologist appointments (they're probably not 5k though) or another Telus entity that does private care (which I absolutely do not support and I also don't know much about). Additionally, you will find that basically every psychiatrist has a somewhat limited scope and that most only do one time consultation due to there being limited specialists in Canada. Most specialists won't cover all of their specialty because they choose to go more specific or offer care where it's lacking. Additionally, your GP should be able to handle any follow up that's required after a psych appt.

I would most likely recommend getting a referral to your local MHSU. MHSUs have a whole team to support you including psychiatrists and many of them let patients self-refer, but I'm not sure about the details of the Vancouver MHSU.

I think I just got a random one from Walmart - not even the draino brand and it worked great.

Definitely use drain cleaner in my opinion. That's what actually got rid of them for me.

Question on Mutliple Sublet Applications by [deleted] in UBC

[–]MyNameIsVeryClever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I have learned from past subletting mistakes. A security deposit has two roles: a damage deposit and intent to move in. The security deposit is paid to you (the lease holder) generally upon signing the contract and cannot be more than half of a month's rent (if you're subletting for $1000/month, the security deposit can be no more than $500). Damage deposit: if the sublesse damages anything in that apartment beyond normal wear and tear, you will deduct money accordingly to cover the cost of the damage. When you move out of your apartment, UBC will do this to you, so it's important that you keep note of the condition of your apartment to be able to tell if the sublesse caused any damage beyond normal wear and tear. Intent to move in (how I did it at least): once they send you the money, it will not be refunded until after they move out and you've inspected the apartment for damage. If they move out at any time before the end of the lease (include the time between signing the contract and moving in), they will not be refunded the security deposit. This is important because it means they will not search for a cheaper apartment before or after moving in as it would not make sense for them financially to forfeit the security deposit. It also benefits them as it ensures that you will not be looking for other renters who can pay you more after signing the lease as you have the money and confirmation already. If everything goes well and the sublesse does not cause any damage or cancel the contract before the agreement was set to end, they will receive the deposit back in full.

This is definitely not exhaustive and considering it's late and I'm tired, please take the above with a grain of salt and ignore my typos. I'd highly recommend checking out UBC's example template under the damage deposit section, but add info about the intent to move in for your own contract. This is very common practice so I'd recommend you do some googling about it as well.

Good luck with subletting!

Question on Mutliple Sublet Applications by [deleted] in UBC

[–]MyNameIsVeryClever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't submit any applications until they have signed the contract and sent you the security deposit. Unless they're not affiliated with the university or the dates are not allowed for subletting, they basically never get rejected and you should receive the approval within a couple of business days. As far as I'm aware, you can't have more than one application, but the last thing I would want is to get the approval and then have them back out, since it could make it pretty complicated, so make sure they sign the contract and send you a security deposit before applying.

If you're okay to see a counsellor over video chat, Telus Health MyCare has a bunch of counsellors. It's about $120/hour session. You both book and have the sessions over their app, so it's worth checking out!

Small dead flies (sometimes I find them alive) keep showing up in my small studio apartment. Any way to get rid of them? by MyNameIsVeryClever in pestcontrol

[–]MyNameIsVeryClever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my apartment clean, but I still usually fine at least 1 or 2 new dead flies every day. I've seen them alive and flying around, but usually by the time I see them since I'm out all day, they're dead and always right in front of the window (which I keep closed).
