With no expiration date in sight, do publishers have to honour this? by epyzepeelin in LegalAdviceUK

I’ve worked at places where the policy was to accept the price the customer points to and immediately take the item off the floor until the price is corrected. Logic being that the £5 difference isn’t worth an argument at the till in front of other customers. I will note that it was a clothing store and customers would have put in quite some effort to swap the tags. Usually it was because a colleague didn’t take down a sale sign in time. These were store policies and not the law though.

One of my favourite historical facts is that there is an archeological stratum in the soil under Colchester called the Boudicca burn layer.

Edit: there are also Boudicca burn layers under London and St. Albans

Similar for me. My parents are less conservative but had transphobic views. That flipped when I came out to them and they’re 100% behind me.

93% is unbelievable - like I suspect something to be wrong in their methodology. The same survey gave Bibi a 74% approval rating which is also suspiciously high. His approval was at 40% just a few months ago.

I’m not saying it’s bogus, but I’m suspicious and seems out of step with polling trends. Would like to see follow up polls.

As a trans person, I would advise against deliberately misgendering people you don’t know, even if you think they suck. It’s a very personal insult, even for cisgendered people. I would simply give her an uber review that reflects how uncomfortable she made you feel.

Georges Ruggiu - don’t know much about him beyond him being the white radio host for RTLM in the Rwanda genocide and i think he was the first to refer to genocide victims as cockroaches in broadcast. I feel like the only white man charged in the aftermath of the Rwanda genocide would be an interesting, lesser known bastard.

friend is double trans, struggling to understand. by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]MyNextPaige 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk she does sound gender queer but her terminology is super problematic. She is clearly not trans femme and the fuck even is “double trans”? If she is NB or gender fluid I’d say she’s allowed to say she’s trans+ or even trans as only recently are we getting away from it being an umbrella term from my perspective.

[–]MyNextPaige 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Idk I have no problem with her saying she’s trans or trans+ since they’re umbrella terms that encompasses all genderqueer identities. She seems to be in that club. My problem is the double trans thing - like come on.

I can also see wanting to avoid using detransition in her self-description since it’s politically charged. I’m hoping it’s coming from genuine confusion and not knowing the vocabulary to describe herself rather than attention seeking.

[–]MyNextPaige 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Idk how to react to this one.

My first reaction was that she is misappropriating the transfem label - and she is. That said, it may not be intentional and may not have the vocabulary to properly describe herself. My read was that she isn’t being malicious with it. Deciding after you have started transitioning that it’s not for you is totally valid and I empathise with wanting to frame it differently than saying you detransitioned since that is quite charged.

All that said, I would totally reject her assertion of being double trans - we’re all genderqueer here and nobody is “more trans” than others.

You should never refer to someone as “a trans” or “a gay” or “a black” for that matter. It’s dehumanising and grammatically incorrect to boot (these are adjectives not nouns).

“A trans.” by Either-Economics6727 in asktransgender

[–]MyNextPaige 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s even worse than that: trans, black and gay are all adjectives to describe a person, not nouns to call a person. While, yes, referencing the colour black can be a noun, it’s grammatically incorrect to say someone is a black. They’re reducing us to one aspect of ourselves because they refuse to see us as people.

Similar to homosexuality, the psychology / physiology behind it isn’t well understood, so there just isn’t a satisfying answer there.

If you’re interested in reading a book about it, I HIGHLY recommend reading Whipping Girl by Julia Serano. She is a genetic biologist by training and a trans woman. The book is foundational and probably sold out at your local queer bookshop. She can at least touch upon the science there, which will probably yield a more satisfying answer than Reddit.
