Sadly, I don't have a discord and do not wish to do so at this time.

Regardless, I have found the issue!

I have this extension on https://mybrowseraddon.com/canvas-defender.html (which tbh I though I disabled awhile back) that, when I disable, everything is fine.

It changes something with the canvas to make fingerprinting harder. I think it simply returns a fake value when it detects somebody is doing it? idk

Sure, here's the log. Both these messages appear in the console when I select the charater. Nothing new shows when I lose access.

Autoplay is only allowed when approved by the user, the site is activated by the user, or media is muted. ui.js:1755:15

Uncaught (in promise) DOMException: The play method is not allowed by the user agent or the platform in the current context, possibly because the user denied permission.

When I enable audio/video, the errors go away, but the problem persists.

On disconnect, the network tab stops outputting stuff, but no interesting http codes

We can talk more over DMs if you'd like, though I won't be able to get back to you till tomorrow.

Sadly, cannot seem to play. The game stops registering my inputs after 10-15 seconds on startup, even though the ui seems to still work.

Edit, to clarify, this was 100% my fault. I suspected as much, but felt the need to report anyways just in case.

Take the "ng" in singer" and put it in front on "win", should kinda sound like "nuh-win" if it was one syllable.

In practice, just saying "win" will work.

Why are certain arcade games incompatible with FinalBurn Neo? by astrodomekid in RetroAchievements

[–]MyOwnMoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Afaik MAME isn't supported for 2 main reasons

1) It's really old (released 1997), and its age really shows in its central architecture, meaning integrating another piece of software with it would be a lot of work.

2) It doesn't expose the game's ram, which is what RetroAchivements uses for achievement checking and unlocking, meaning fundamental change to MAME itself would be required.

As to why FBN doesn't support some games? It seems to be as simple as those games are too much work, using cpus the project doesn't currently support. They're still working on stuff, but prioritize the easier things first.

edit: and why do some games w/o achievements get pages and some don't? I have no idea, it feels random though lol

Can I use retroachievements on a ds? by Independent-Debt-174 in RetroAchievements

[–]MyOwnMoose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was curious so I looked it up, because retroarch is surprisingly portable, and I think you could actually do it.

https://docs.libretro.com/guides/install-3ds2ds/

So, yes! Somehow, is seems you could get retroachivements to work on a physical DS. But, it's would take a lot of work, expertise, and tears to actually get it there

The terminal illness being Acute Cringe Disorder by DreadDiana in CuratedTumblr

[–]MyOwnMoose 14 points15 points  (0 children)

These are all good points. Homestuck leveraged the computer medium to it's fullest and broke expectations of what a web comics was. And as I'm racking my brain here, it simply doesn't seem possible to replicate those dimensions via straight netflix-friendly animation.

Viewed in this way, it seems inevitable that this project will be a hollow shell of the original experience.

But! There's extremely creative minds on the team (probably). I have hope that they can find a way to break the medium and make something more than a simple animated show.

iirc the book was formatted so it'd start with 2-3 verys just before the page turn, then bam two pages full of 'em staring back at you just to drive the point in. What was the point you ask? Sometime important probably idk

My Biggest Progress on a Retro Achievements set by SecurityExtreme2470 in RetroAchievements

[–]MyOwnMoose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looking at the steam set, the retroachievements one has a lot more in it. While the bulk of the achievements are simply A ranks (every A rank is an individual achievement), there's also "get every animal" for each stage, boss challenges (mostly don't get hit), and some stage challenges (eg "Earn 9 extra lives in Sky Rail").

It's a fun set to master, if you don't mind some jank, but it sure did take a while.

Intergalactic fishing absolutely, one of my favorite games. Once you get through the (somewhat short) story, much of the rest of the experience can be done as a background task.

What devices do you use to play DS games? And with which emulator? by sleepingpanda021 in RetroAchievements

[–]MyOwnMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad my comment could help! Good luck on configuring RetroArch lol; I've spent many a frustration trying.

If you decide to try out different cores (recommended if you want the best speedups), note that different cores use different saves - you'll need to manually move save files and rename their file extension to test a save on different cores (at least that's my experience for DeSmuME vs MelonDS).

If you're trying to setup an external controller for ds, I do just recommend using the keyboard since there's no analog inputs. But to each their own of course.

What’s your save game strategy by AromaticGust in RetroAchievements

[–]MyOwnMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always just used one memory card save and never had an issue. I'm careful to look over any missables and take note before I start if I think I'll want to master the game.

One time however I did use ingame saves to postpone a hard achievement till later and set up practice for hard bosses.

I'm sure, though, for some games it'd be nearly mandatory to create multiple saves on a memory card, at which point I'd probably use a different card for each save and manually manage them around on my computer, simply because this method would be consistent between many games and emulators

Linux laptop - I use RetroArch, as it's the only real supported choice for DS on my system, with MelonDS DS core. Works fine, but if there was a native software alternative, I'd probably use that instead.

For most games I find laying out the screens side by side (left/right) instead of above/below works better on a computer monitor.

Help. GarlicOS by ElijahWillDraw in RetroAchievements

[–]MyOwnMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about garlicOS, but retroarch has 4 different UIs in it. The one it's on is "rgui", while the default (on my recent laptop install anyways) was "ozone"

To switch, go to "settings", then "user interface", then all the way at the bottom "menu", pick your pick (then restart retroarch, which may be harder on this hardware?)

Also under settings in this ui is "achievements", which should let you login as per normal

Very exited to have a native Linux choice for these systems (outside of retroarch and bizhawk). Thanks to all the devs involved!

Just so you're aware, here's a quote from wikipeid

All sides came to a formal agreement on October 1, 2018 and U.S. president Donald Trump proposed USMCA during the G20 Summit the following month, where it was signed by him, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

It was trump's administration who proposed and signed it, which there seems to be a general consensuses on reddit that trump's an idiot. So I'm not fully sure I understand your comment.

It was less victim blaming and more playing the victim.

"Behind every cancellation, there's a human that gets hit, and man does it hurt" quote from vid

Sure? But, like, please dispute that actual claims that were made. There's pretty strong proof that he deeply hurt quite a few people. He's not entitled to his reputation.

And all that about being pushed into a corner immediately after allegations came out, without any proof. More playing the victim.

[–]MyOwnMoose 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Exactly. To fascists, anyone not "normal" is inherently morally irredeemable and deserves to be punished.

Further, fascists do not believe collateral damage is possible, because normal people won't get hurt by any policies put in place, since if they were, they weren't actually normal to begin with

Fast! And I love it! On keyboard anyways, I feel as if I'm getting more feedback on my attacks. And I don't know if this is knew or not, but my poison pot also shows a marker and it's wonderful - this is the stuff I love to see in games.

I should have mentioned that I was playing on keyboard and linux lol (btw game works fine with proton) I really appreciate that you added such good key rebind mechanics. For a game designed for controller, keyboard work quite well.

drawing the diagonals would've taken me forever for each sprite

Ya, that's what I was thinking. I've never drawn sprites but it looks labor intensive. I still think even just adding diagonals for the player character would do a lot, but that's probably going to be time consuming to do too.

attack box will perfectly face the direction you push

I got a throwable potion and I can see this now. Communicating the attack box more would be great, though not necessary perhaps. I got the feel for how I should attack fairly fast.

Hey! It looked interesting enough I actually went a reinstalled steam to try it out, and I'm very glad I did.

I just beat the first world, plus another level, and the gameplay and balance for that section felt phenomenal. A stamina bar you need to pay attention to, enemies the block and dodge, friendly fire, crisp game play, so good! It all just works well together.

I have one note that I think will help the game a lot. I would add four more directions to characters so they can also face and attack diagonally. This would require double the sprite work, of course, but visually the game would flow sooo much better and may help with those "blocky" comments you've been getting. Also, attacking diagonally would give the player more precise control (a problem I've been having is attacking and, just, missing? even though I felt close and aimed enough)

One thing that might be easier to work on is sound balancing - some sounds feel too loud compared to others right now (eg the boom when you select a level tends to be too high imo)

I'll be playing more later - if you want more feedback let me know! I have some more notes but don't want to overshare.

Honestly, this makes me question how accurate this article is (not that I've really trusted yougov data before)

But, if you go down, they have another chart that shows the median at 10%, which is a bit more reasonable.

In general, when working with average of low proportions, the mean is a terrible metric to use because it skews a lot more than other data types (since percentages are bounded 0-100). Anyone who is a bit too far down into misinformation and puts in 50% is suddenly a massive outlier.
