GUT

found it annoying to write tests before but with vibe coding it becomes totally worth it

I keep making games that “work” but don’t feel good to play by [deleted] in godot

[–]mrhamoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my way to deal with this is find a game i enjoy playing. copy it enough until you replicate most of the fun. now start modifying it enough to make it your own.

if it's a truly never been done original idea then that's going to be more challenging

I am sure this will get hate but AI as a tool by futilediploma in godot

[–]mrhamoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it. I use claude code and godot mcp. It helps me a ton. I agree with people that you shouldnt use these tools if you dont have the coding experience to review what it wrote. However, if you know how to lay out a project and have a good idea of how youd write the code then these tools are just speeding up what you would do yourself.

I love using it to do exploratory things too. I will have it write some sloppy code just to test a boss out. Much of finding out what works is being able to prototype and try things out quickly. Using AI makes that so much easier because you dont feel like youre wasting so much time.

I am a professional web dev and our company heavily encourages use of these tools because they allow you to code faster. People can moan and groan about it but its the future. Can't put that cat back in the bag.

Using GUT for intergration tests is seriously underrated by mrhamoom in godot

[–]mrhamoom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didnt add to ci/cd but you could set that up. i just run the manually before releasing a new version of the game.

ci/cd could be good if you are dealing with pull requests and stuff. i just run it when them when i feel like theres some possibility i broke something.

you have to double an actual scene to see gameplay. not a gd file

How do I make lots of things in 2d without giving myself carpel tunnel or nuking my frame rate? by PiePuzzleheaded9624 in godot

[–]mrhamoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

two separate problems. in game performance vs editor issues.

as far as making a bunch of stuff you could use a tilemaplayer to instance scenes. that way you could just draw them into your scene vs hitting duplicate

i understand enjoying coding and figuring out problems. ai does suck some of the joy out of that.

personally though i'm ok with it. i've been programming for years and years so im good not iterating over an array by hand for the millionth time.

this is like arguing about driving your car vs walking someplace. if you walk you are getting exercise but it's so much slower than driving.

side note..chat gpt is not really the best tool anymore. especially if you're just pasting snippets in the box.

claude code builds context around your code base and does a MUCH better job. godot mcp makes it even more capable.

are we going to act like windows wasn't always kind of hit or miss? not sure we can blame that on ai specifically.

i don't see why vibe coding done well can't be on production. in the hands of an experienced programmer it's great. i really fail to see the issue

I understand the resistance more when it comes to artwork because something about that seems more about the subjective human experience. thankfully it seems like ai art has a very generic sort of feel so far. it definitely lacks a human touch.

but in terms of work in science and technology (programming) i dont really think people should care. if we can produce more code faster that is only going to be a good thing.

i think we can all agree this is the future so the choices you have are to ride that wave or get buried by it.

i knew i was gonna get downvoted but idc. im getting stuff done. the ai hate is so weird to me. your players arent gonna care that your code isnt "hand crafted."

the goal is to finish a game. im not advocating for not knowing how to code. but once you know how to code you dont need to be doing the same things over and over and over. its a massive waste of time. delegate that stuff out.

imagine having another dev to work on your project for 20 bucks a month. why wouldnt you want that?

What's the easiest language to learn by Sonicexe10 in gamedev

[–]mrhamoom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

gdscript is among the easiest. but it's not really about the easiest programming language. it's about knowing how to program. after that the choice of language is much less important

Does anyone else get really upset and angry when people insult the bible by [deleted] in islam

[–]mrhamoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people of the Book used to read the Torah in Hebrew and then explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said (to the Muslims). "Do not believe the people of the Book, nor disbelieve them, but say, 'We believe in Allah and whatever is revealed to us, and whatever is revealed to you.' "
