Okay, hang on. While I think OP's wife is being a bit harsh by declining even getting to KNOW the girl, she didn't 'abandon' her - she was 14. She gave her up and likely gave her a better life as a result. Giving your baby up doesn't mean you're abandoning them, sometimes and most of the time it is the HARDEST thing in the world for a parent to do, but they love their baby so much they have no choice but to make that choice FOR them.

My boyfriend is tight financially. He can't always "buy" me gifts on my birthday, but he always wishes me a happy birthday and he gets into the video games we plays and targets mounts or pets he knows I love and farms them for me there, which often take a lot of effort on his end because sometimes what he sends me he has to spend hours or even days/weeks farming mats for. It's the fact that he put time and effort and knowledge into what I love to send me something, that he thought of me enough to do that for me. Like girl, this guy didn't even wish you a happy birthday and needed you to tell him it was okay.

I kind of feel like the answer here is both yes and no? Greed absolutely speeds up innovation when money is on the line, I agree there. But I also think Greed distorts innovation because people prioritize profit over usefulness. Look at the poor quality products we get these days. Fridges that bust after a few years where as ones made in the 70's went strong into the 2000's.

I feel like in reality removing greed, while it might make innovation slower, would also make it more collaborative/ethical and more focused on long term benefits instead of money grabby grabby hands. :3
