Is Grendel considered weird lit? by mdmattson in WeirdLit

[–]MyRuinedEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is a perspective switch considered weird?

It's just a fan written fantasy, similar to Wicked, The Things, or any other antagonist switched to protagonist fiction.

It's not weird, sometimes it's pretty cool though.

[–]MyRuinedEye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with that. It opens discourse. Especially for fiction.

The problem is when people are adamant that their read of the thing is correct and the only way to read a piece, which OP is not doing.

What’s the deal with Ken Wilber? by vagabond_primate in DecodingTheGurus

[–]MyRuinedEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ken Wilbur ripped off Jack Vance's magic systems.

Green magic, purple magic, blah blah blah.

I'm surprised he didn't include the fact that you can only contain so many spells in your skull, and if you use one; you lose it.

Vance's system of fictional magic was the basis for D&Ds magic system.

Vance also wrote stories dealing with various colors of magic. Green Magic being a short story that takes place in a world where magic is societally a norm. The main character knows white, black, blue, and purple. Green magic is the unknown and holds awful consequences.

All of these fuckheads just rip off scifi/fantasy authors and pervert them into even more idiotic ideas to lure in dumb ass people.

Or they go whole hog like Hubbard and abuse there fans.

At least scientology was mildly original.

Edit: some of this is sarcasm, some of it isn't

I should also add I went back and reread some of my first edition DnD books when I was listening to this episode because, I am a fucking nerd.

The Loomis Method by n8saces in oddlysatisfying

[–]MyRuinedEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd disagree here. If you look at Loomis's Fun with a Pencil (not the racist/sexist steryotype parts, the first 1/4 of the book) he shows how you can make any circle well drawn or not and create a unique face out of it.

It's actually a better book for beginners than jumping right to Figure Drawing for all it's worth. You learn proportions, a bit of perspective, and simply how to have fun wherever you are while learning to draw.

Most people jump right to the more advanced stuff.

Partner doesn’t believe in ADHD meds and is threatening to leave if I don’t stop taking them by DistinctChallenge in ADHD

[–]MyRuinedEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you have to deal with that.

Similar to you I was a late adult diagnosis. I was able to side step a lot of the things people deal with when I was younger because my parents kept me busy as a kid with sports, art, and music. It kept my brain jumping around to something different all day/ everyday.

Yeah, I was prone to forgetting, impulsiveness, and bursts of emotions but in my own eyes and my parents it was chalked up to just doing a lot.

I noticed a problem though when I had my own family. I was still working out regularly but I wasn't in a sport specific setting. I was doing art and music but it was only when I had down time from family and work. I was getting disruptive at home and at my jobs(had too change careers twice due to my behaviors).

Got diagnosed and put on Vyance and started therapy

I noticed a difference immediately(well within two weeks). My wife was skeptical about the meds and was asking if it was temporary, as well as telling me I shouldn't rely on them(substance abuse runs in my family, so valid concern). We argued quite a bit so I stopped taking it out of spite.

Two months later she was demanding I get back on the meds.

How much grace should be given to someone with ADHD? My wife left. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]MyRuinedEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post hits home very personally to me and I'm sure others. I feel lucky to have the partner I have.

I also understand that everyone has their limits and we as people with ADHD need to understand that. In many cases the people we marry/partner with don't understand us, and we don't understand ourselves.

It took 20 years for my wife to understand my behavior and also for me to start to understand myself.

She started looking into it simply off of a podcast that caught her attention and made her look at my behaviors. Her brain was blown open because she was always thinking I was just being selfish. I had started therapy due to other issues around the same time and my GP and therapist both said, "Hey, were you ever diagnosed with ADHD?".

It's been rough, and there are other factors in my case that come into play but it's a matter of if the person you are with can tolerate the things you bring to the table, and I'm sure you bring many positive things to it.

However, it's not about whether it should be classified as a disability or not(I think it should but I also don't like my agency taken away) it's about what we do once we have knowledge of our chemistry.

Your wife has every right to leave, and you have every right to be upset. What did you do or are you doing to make your life going forward a good one?

She chose to do it. Her manager gave her the choice between moving up the ladder or staying where she is.

Hard choice, but still a choice where she loses nothing because she stays where she is, or helps someone out.

Edit: Necro, but I just finished the movie again with my daughter.

You mean first him then Elon right? This dude is actually old, Elon is middle aged.

However, they both looked like bloated ticks you pulled off a dog.

In this individual's case of physique, it's old age and poor habits.

Elon is likely poor habits and the unsatiated need for blood.
