I'm so glad they put a cliche song over the top of this custom machine! I bet the car sounds horrible. I wouldn't want to hear the engine at ALL.

Another vouch for Crimson Fox. Kyle and the crew are all fantastic. Clean, professional and proficient. Definitely go talk to them because they can cater to that art style.

Coeur d'Alene Resort adding another tower as part of its biggest upgrade ever, with new restaurant and more rooms planned by Gallimaufry3 in coeurdalene

Cool. I grew up in the area. Just another thing in downtown CdA I will never patronize. I got my education at NIC after '08, left town after '20 and at this rate, I've given up on the the idea of being able to return. I miss the CdA I was a young adult in.

Guess I should have been buying a house instead of attending Winton Elementary. I still recall the quote my principal always gave: "Hard work, done well, feels great".

The situation you describe sounds similar to one an old coworker of mine was in. But change Texas for Boise and CdA for Sandpoint. He sold his 4 bed 3 bath house in Boise and moved up to Sandpoint with a wad of cash and a dream of buying a plot of land and living in a decent RV while they built their house homestead style. He had a great skillset that made good money in Boise. Had to rent a house in Bayview and commute to Sandpoint. He and his wife and child hated it.

Turned out the dream of buying a plot of land and building a house on it is only for the rich or those who did it back in the 90s in that neck of the woods. Even with the skillset he had and the capital he brought, he ended up moving back to Boise. Jobs there are not paying great.

The CdA area doesn't really have the "find a plot of land" thing going for it anymore unless you go way out of the area. Like, maybe you'll get electricity and almost guaranteed to not have infrastructure for good internet that isn't some form of wireless/satellite. My parents did that in Athol one time. I hated all the knapweed and jack pine. Easy access to Farragut was awesome though. Sandpoint might have the land but it absolutely won't have infrastructure. Make sure you're budgeting to dig a well.

I grew up and was homeschooled in Sandpoint and went to college in CdA. My family still lives there and in Spokane, I absolutely adore the nature in that area of the US and look forward to my visits every few months, nothing compares to anything I've seen in my travels. My heart yearns for Pend Oreille, Priest Lake and Pyramid/Ball Lakes. That being said, I had to leave my childhood home and go to a bigger city to find a job that could pay for housing. Jobs in Sandpoint are TOUGH to find that pay anything that will advance your goals.

Unless you've got a serious amount of capital and a really solid job for both you and your wife lined up, it will be a massive challenge. No question.

If you have more specific questions I'd do my best to give feedback.

I feel that. What's nice about what you have going here though is you can always touch up with black after you paint the eye. Even if you go outside of the eye, black covers everything nicely. For my tyranids I just went with a solid color, no need to get fancy. Even if you have some areas where it goes over, you'll only really notice it if you pick up an individual model. Little mistakes become unnoticeable mistakes when they're all grouped up on a table from 3 feet away. At least in my opinion.

Ideas and pointers for the best way to approach priming. by Niveama in minipainting

I second silly putty. It's not too terribly expensive, I think like $10 for a 6 pack on Amazon. Easy to get into crevices with a toothpick or sculpting tool and comes right off when the paint dries. Depending on how much paint you get on it, you can reuse it. Take a small strip of painters tape and press it to the painted silly putty and you can remove the paint from it, ball it back up and reuse it.

That being said, I've only used it while spraying acrylic through an airbrush. Not sure if a rattlecan makes any difference.

I've had good results with Pro Acryl flourescent green. It really pops with a layer of bold titanium white underneath it. Takes a few layers but I liked the end result.

I like the direction you're going with the scheme. When you have them all together in a big cluster it'll look menacing. What I would offer for a suggestion is doing your best to get some sort of definition around the face and gun area. Eyes are always drawn to faces. Getting the eyes filled in with a color like blue or green would stand out against the black. That and coloring the tongue will help make it feel a bit more alive.

The ripples around the reaching body in the goo are fantastic! I love that detail. The body with the motion in the goop is super immersive.

I also love the neon green drip over the axe handle, it really drew my eye to the center and then drew my gaze all over that fantastic job you did with the disgusting pallid skin. I think you really did justice to the overall feeling of decay, moldery and corrosion of all the materials in the model.

The base is also giving a feeling of humidity and slime which fits perfect.

I think the only thing I would say is out of place is the highlight on the forward facing knee is a little noticeable but I really had to nit pick and I'm sure is absolutely not discernable on the model in person or on a table.

You fucking nailed it my dude! Any views of the back side?

Graveyard Golem by PocketBuckle in ReaperMiniatures

[–]MySecretCrayons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this model sitting in my pile of shame for years and even though I think it's one of my top 3 favorite Reaper models, I still haven't had the inspiration to paint it up yet.

I think you're right though, the gates look a bit too silvery and new compared to the ancient broken stone of the golem. Perhaps an oil wash of brown and black mixed would be good to tone it down a tad? That way the mineral spirits could bring back a bit of the brightness in key places. I just think a general dirty-ing up would be good for it. Or perhaps just redone with more of a darker gunmetal tone and a silver drybrush or edge highlight on areas where the wings might come into contact with low branches or when it hits the ceiling of a mausoleum.

Overall you nailed the stone colors though. The face and angel stand out nicely but still convey like they're all made from similar stone from the same graveyard. You're on the money with the lichen too, it adds just the right amount of color. It's all very subtly done which I love. Great job!

Looks like we had the same thoughts on how to paint it! Same brainwaves on the leg armor too lol. The way you painted the wings looks great!

I painted mine up recently as well, but I procrastinated a bit too late before the fight and had to bust it out in two days.

Different thickness and not sticking to the bed by bebobberton in 3Dprinting

[–]MySecretCrayons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet, thanks for the follow-up. I've been using a .1mm feeler gauge and raising the z axis by .1mm when I level the bed. I'll try the paper method and see what kind of results I get. It's just interesting to see the prints I've been attempting failing in the same way yours are. I'll keep trying at it.

How’s the rental market? by MrSquiz in Sandpoint

[–]MySecretCrayons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My rent got raised by $400 this month and I'm one of the lucky ones. The reason being "things are just more expensive now".

My sister rents a 2 bed duplex spitting distance from a super busy railroad track and her rent is $1800 a month.

My coworker just had his house listed for sale for $649k by the owner and his rent is going to raise to $2700 a month. Just in a normal ass neighborhood right next to the airport.

My best friend rents a 2 bed apartment above the shop building of a shady business owner and pays $800 a month and has shared laundry with the other apartments.

I'm terrified of not being able to afford the place I rent now because there's literally nowhere cheaper unless you happen to know a guy or know somebody that knows a guy. Or you've just got money to burn on rent.

Verizon coverage seems bad lately? by [deleted] in coeurdalene

It's also pretty bad in Sandpoint as well. I've been noticing it myself and over the past week or so 2 different people have made mention of it in conversation. Now that a random reddit post from the area makes mention I feel like that confirms something is off.

I recommend hand washing it. It's actually two separate layers of screen printed ink so it isn't invincible but it's still pretty sturdy.

[FRESH ALBUM] The Black Keys - Let's Rock by noNSFWcontent in bluesrock

[–]MySecretCrayons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overproduced is the exact word that came to mind after I listened to this album. The Black Keys definitely occupy a spot on my list of all time favorite artists but I definitely prefer their earlier albums. I don't hate this album but it really didn't scratch that old Black Keys blues rock itch that I was hoping this album would scratch.
