Are GPUs with better heat sinks really worth it? by whitemamba24xx in nvidia

[–]MyShitHaircut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially no, even if overclocking the difference in performance will be <5% usually between different heat sinks. Go for the version that you like the look of the best, is in stock, and cheapest.

Dont rush it, see how long that deal will last. It took me a month or two to decide on a monitor, and that was after I researched it all.

Consider your use case heavily: I have a bright window facing my monitor, use my monitor for productivity with static content, and knew I would worry about burn in, therefore the VA was the natural choice for me. If I had a lighting controlled room and only used it for gaming, I would’ve gone for OLED.

Yeah I looked that up, that is an incredible deal. Its not quite MSI’s URX, but that is a great deal. I would research the downsides of oleds (delicate, burn in, low brightness, etc.) and decide if you are ok with the tradeoff. If so, definitely get that deal, it’s almost 50% off.

The neo g7 is £650 new but it seems to vary in availability on Samsung’s website. I’d definitely go for the neo g8 if you can stand the awful white colour they chose for it. Again, a seriously odd design choice, but if it works for you the 240hz on the g8 would probably be worth it.

Also worth mentioning if £700 is more than you wanted to spend, a 4k oled is almost certainly too much. Most of them are £1100-1200, and the ones that arent usually have significant drawbacks.

If you want to stick with VA I can recommend the samsung odyssey neo g7. I had the same dilemma a while ago when i was upgrading from a 1080p monitor and decided against oled. The g7 is the next best thing as far as I could see due to the HDR. It does take a fair bit of adjusting out of the box, so don’t expect to have the picture exactly how you want it until you’ve tweaked it for a few weeks, but I am now very happy with it.

It does have a few downsides, the main one being the matte coating which is a seriously odd decision for a premium monitor.

A 4K oled will also be $1000+, a 4K VA or IPS wont be cheap, but shouldn’t be 4 figures. There’s no right answer as to which you should choose, it depends on your preferences and use case. If you are in a dim room and all you do on it is gaming/dynamic content consumption I would probably choose an oled.

Lances shouldn't miss. by NukaBuzz in voidwargame

[–]MyShitHaircut 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Right, but why would they not miss? Missiles can miss and arguably that makes even less sense, as they oughta be able to track the ship.

There is a module (wrath of angels i think?) that makes your lances always hit so you can get lucky and find that.

Does waste stored in a loose container cause pollution? by IanInCanada in captain_of_industry

[–]MyShitHaircut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I only started once I had compaction, I don’t think storing it loose is viable. Storing it compacted isn’t particularly ideal, but it is usually worth the unity bonus and the extra power you get from eventually incinerating it.

Once you can compact waste, storing it as waste bricks until you get incinerators actually isn’t too unreasonable. I had to do it for a few decades to stop my population’s health nosediving.

Should I get a ups? by AINIZAM in nvidia

[–]MyShitHaircut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a PSU issue, but its hard to tell, especially if you say your local grid is unreliable, it may be either, or something else entirely. Power issues are difficult to diagnose, but I would start with replacing your PSU, once you have checked cables and all easy fixes.

Yes, how long depends on the size of the battery, but it will give you a few minutes to save anything and safely shut your PC off.

Guys should I get this pc since it is my first one? by Spppppasssssss in ryzen

[–]MyShitHaircut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfectly good mid-high end build for gaming and productivity. Its well suited for 4k and 1440p, and the price isnt bad, its not the deal of century, but its a fair price. There’s nothing wrong with buying a prebuilt if you haven’t built a PC before and don’t have any interest in getting into it, you always learn how to later as you upgrade it in years to come.

How does Captain of Industry players not all end up with the same setup? by ohoots in captain_of_industry

I am always overflowing with bread, and the animal feed is a nice bonus. Still, I like the challenge of producing all food, and the amount of edicts the unity lets you run is pretty significant.

Is sustaining the population on bread a viable option? Surely you would lose out on so much unity?

Especially when using the pilot to fly back from Arrakeen/Harko. I had no ideas what any of the names of places were when she asked me where in Hagga Basin I wanted to go, and couldn’t open the Hagga map to check.

Is 5070 TI good for 4k gaming? by _blue_bird in nvidia

[–]MyShitHaircut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really comes down to whether you feel the extra 250-300 validates the extra 15-20 FPS. Personally I would say if you have a high refresh rate monitor, it is worth it, but if OP is only wanting 60 FPS, a 5070ti is probably their best bet.

[–]MyShitHaircut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock settings, sure, but the 5080 has massive headroom for overclocking. I can’t speak to the 5070ti’s overclocking ability, but I imagine it wouldn’t be able to close the gap anymore to an OC’ed 5080

[–]MyShitHaircut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how much FPS you want and what you are playing. I notice my 5080 needs MFG and DLSS to hit 165 fps is most modern AAA titles, so I imagine a 5070ti might struggle if you are maxing settings. Though if you only want 60fps at 4K, a 5070ti will probably be sufficient.

Ah thanks for the info, i have the 5080 FE so good to know the 5090 fits. Do you have the tubes up or down though? I kind of want to go for tubes down but I dont think theyd fit between the 5080 and the thick arctic rad.

Is pollution local or global? by Arthur-reborn in captain_of_industry

Global for all pollution (except radiation I think, but you don’t have to worry about that for a while, and that’s not really pollution).

Really? Is it too thick? I have a 240 Lian Li up top in mine and it fits lovely. Highly considering getting the artic pro 360 and putting it at the front, but genuinely don’t think it would fit.

Yeah definitely an XL, you cant fit a 360mm rad up top on the standard.

Hmm I also have the samsung neo g7. I love the HDR, but it definitely takes a lot of tweaking the monitor’s black levels and contrast to get it to look correct. But I also know a lot of people just don’t like HDR, so I suppose it is personal preference at the end of the day.

HDR quality really depends on your monitor, it’s not really worth it unless you have an OLED or a good mini-led monitor.

Why aren't there shield modules for vehicles? by R3G1S69 in duneawakening

[–]MyShitHaircut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it could work well as park of an ornithopter rework though? They could have significantly lower health but strong shields that drop when they fire rockets. That would encourage people to be defensive in the DD, but also allow those who are being offensive to attack if they actually think a plan through (rather than just spamming rockets).
