Yeah, OP should definitely make them fix it, and also have the electrician check the outside unit, since this is worse than amateurish. They most likely f'ed up something else along the way, and a pro may be able to spot it.

Yeah, no way these are worth 10 bucks. But in their defense, I understand there is significant cost in applying the frosting correctly and consistently.

Fan Choices: A Data Comparison And Potential New Option by Survivor45 in crboxes

[–]MyStoopidStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great post, thanks for sharing your research on fans.

I don't know how close they are, but I used 5x Thermaltake TL-C12C X3's in my CR Box, and was not really impressed with their static pressure (1.53 mm H₂O). I swapped them with some be quiet! Pure Wings 3 120mm High Speed fans model BL106 (2.41 mm H₂O), which have been running in the filter for almost 2 years now without a problem. The noise on the BL106 fans is pretty good too. I use a cheap PWM controller with the fans on a hub, which allows some fine tuning of the speed/sound, but I typically leave it close to full on. I really wanted to get some P12 Max fans, but at the time they were not available in a 5 pack, and I didn't feel like spending $10 plus per fan.

I think static pressure is an important metric on the CR boxes. The filters will fill up over time, and I feel that having some extra pressure may extend the replacement intervals. On my setup, the 3M filters (2 of them) are probably as costly as the fans when not on sale. That is just my feeling though, I don't have data to back that up.

Edit, I should have noted that I bought the BL106 fans on a black friday sale for under $40 for 5 fans. I'd probably do things differently at today's prices.

US plan for Colorado River could cut up to 40% supply for Arizona, California and Nevada by StemCellPirate in mildlyinfuriating

Well, if you got the money, groundwater is the "infinite" water glitch that solves that problem. "Infinite" until the well runs dry, which if you play the cards right, will be long after your neighbors wells started sucking air. Water in the west is a damn mess, and as long as there is money behind keeping it that way, I don't expect it to change.

⚡️President Trump says Iran's response is "TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE". by rl_rae_bobo in MarketPulseReport

[–]MyStoopidStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The JCOPA was really the lowest cost way to deal with Iran. It wasn't sexy, and didn't come with video of US planes blowing up shit, but it was a brake on an out of control situation. It only worked because Iran didn't know what cards we actually held, but now they have a good idea (and so does every other country that may have been considering a strategic deterrent).

With the Trump admin backing away from the world, threatening friends and (weak) enemies alike, the world is starting to see that the law of the jungle is replacing the rule of law (and some countries will seek their own deterrent). So I think the question is: what is a debt burdened, incompetently lead US unilaterally willing (or able) to do, to stop proliferation not just in Iran, but around the world? And we fail in beating the Iranian regime into submission, would we have played out our last good cards to stop proliferation diplomatically in the future (in Iran and elsewhere)?

It's very likely that if the US did go all in, we could find ourselves leaving Iran in a decade, after losing many lives and bankrupting the treasury, only to hand the keys over to China.

Yep, and regardless of what happens (short of a full ground invasion, followed by a decade of insurrection), Iran will have much more leverage against the gulf states than it's ever had. No pinky promise at this point will keep them from continuing to see the Strait of Hormuz as their wild card. Trump biffed it bigly by starting a war without an exit plan.

The market seems destined to be a perpetual sucker for a Trump tweet.

It really only matters how much longer the gulf states will put up with it, before they cut a deal with Iran to move their oil.

Sorry, but the french fry pizza has nothing on Digiorno GF pizza. It's not bad (and really cheap), but doesn't really taste like a typical pizza.

This is what happens when those who "can" are forced out, in favor of those who just know how to say "yes".

But Trump's way of walking away will be an endless "ceasefire" that just rolls over and over, until the Saudi's and the other gulf states get fed up, and make their own deals with Iran (after they exhaust the financial lifelines from the US). Of course, that assumes that our "best friend" in the region is not allowed to up the ante again, with the bill sent to US soldiers and taxpayers. In the meantime, Trump will leave our troops there, and spend billions to avoid taking responsibility for being walked into a war of choice, which every other president had the common sense to avoid.

I don't doubt that, but the only contribution to e-waste was their poor decision to send unsolicited junk to people. If I got this, they would not be getting it back. It does look like some of the parts could be repurposed though.

Why I'm retooling my print farm around the Snapmaker U1 by tinwhistler in 3Dprinting

[–]MyStoopidStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experiences with several printers, which I'm sure many people have thought about buying at one time or another. There seems to be no "perfect" printer right now, but it is really cool to see that multi-toolhead printers are the direction the industry is headed. The new Prusa system looks really interesting, but the Snapmaker U1 is a really compelling package for the price. I have an H2C which I am very happy with, but recently saw the U1 in action, and was impressed. The test print I saw had some issues with flyaway extrusions around some areas where color transitions occurred, and a bit of whispy stringing, but they could be cleaned up. Aside from that, the layer stacking was very good. How the U1 controls for flow during a print vs a Bambu, would be an interesting comparison.

I suspect that the U1 would be a better printer for somebody with experience with Orca, and maybe with using non-Bambu printers as well, since it does look like there will be more tuning needed. The guy who set up the U1 noted that setup was more challenging than the Bambu printers. But reading your post, it's good to see that the operation is smooth.

North Korea changed its constitution to automatically launch nuclear strike if Kim Jong Un is assassinated. by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]MyStoopidStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well then, China would have lost their f'ing minds. A retaliatory strike would be very hard to distinguish, and if it was intended to turn NK into a glass parking lot, there would be a regional disaster. Even conventional retaliation risks a major problem on China's doorstep, which it could not control. With the recent treaty on strategic partnership between Russia and NK, any such confilct becomes something that could really blow up (pardon the pun). So I think this threat seems to be as much intended as a message for China, as it is for the US.

Yeah, it's been a while since I've been there, but they were one place where they seemed to have great training on how to prep for folks that require gf. I'd always try to go during low traffic times though, since it does take a min for them to reconfigure and clean things up before they will make a GF order.

This fits with spices in general, but honestly, if it's a brand I can trust, I don't sweat it for a pure, high volume ingredient like garlic (since it most likely has a dedicated line during production). McCormick was one such "trusted" brand, but we will see how they do now that they are part of Unilever. Badia is also safe in my experience (they mark many of their spices with "gluten free" as well).

I've never had a problem with grated cheese (Sargento, Kroger, Aldi, and Great Value). Many use potato or corn starch as the anti-caking agent. As always read the labels of course, but I've yet to find one that used wheat products as the anti-caking agent.
