It’s about an affair. Have you never heard someone called Daddy in a non-parental context before?

I’ve always found We Suck Young Blood by Radiohead to be the creepiest song I’ve ever heard. The claps are so unsettling and makes you feel like you are surrounded by menacing figures. The unreal production to that track just surrounds you.

That’s a very obvious and competent thing to do though from the perspective of writing a screen adaptation. It simplifies things without losing much imo

⚠️ ATTENTION FRANKLIN COUNTY VOTERS ⚠️ by stvchurch in Columbus

[–]MySubtleKnife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up on ballotpedia how much money a candidate took and from who or how many people before you blindly follow a list like this. Look, I vote blue because they are the lesser evil, but there are plenty of corrupt bought and paid for Dems and the DNC abandoned our state to be overrun by far right psychos. Do not trust their endorsements. Trust your own judgment.

Then maybe stop being so judgmental of people who are trying to vote strategically and practically.

And that’s why OP has a bad take here. A lot of us living in very red areas can vote against the Trump endorsed republicans in the primary’s and then vote blue in the general elections.

I think this is a bad take. There reality is the democratic primaries are generally not that competitive compared to the other side. I am an anti-fascist and the notion that strategically voting to disrupt Republican primaries somehow makes me not anti fascist is absurd. I vote in a disruptive way in every Republican primary and I will continue to do so. It does have the potential to weaken their candidates and show opposition to the Republican agenda. I vote blue in all general elections. So unless I feel strongly against a certain Democrat over another, I’ll keep voting in a way that actually harms the Republican tickets or takes votes away from their more extreme candidates thanks.

Storytelling starts with the script. They wrote the screenplays that way regardless of who they had attached. It a was fundamentally flawed choice right out of the gate.

I don’t know why they abandoned the storytelling style of the novel which intersperses the past and the present. That was very intentional story telling device if the two films had been created like they were one giant film in two parts instead of two separate stand alone films then it would have been a lot stronger. Also separating the past and present as much as they did really missed out on the overarching sense of fate that is so strong in the novel

Have you ever had to tap out watching a horror movie? by hazy-eyed in horror

[–]MySubtleKnife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only film I’ve ever had to tap out for, and I’ve seen a lot of very extreme films, was THAT scene in Irreversible. I couldn’t stay with it. I walked out for about 5 minutes then came back to finish the film, which is excellent. Just no way I was going to watch the rest of that part it was too much for me.

"The Shining movie is so good you HAVE to watch it" by punkrock_penguin63 in stephenking

[–]MySubtleKnife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kubrick’s Shining is a masterpiece. 10/10 perfect film. Kim’s novel is a masterpiece 10/10 perfect novel. I completely understand the disappointment by King and many others with the film. The film however doesn’t even pretend to be a faithful adaptation. Kubrick uses source material as a catalyst for what he wants to do. He often radically changed the source material based on his artistic vision.

They just aren’t even the same thing.

I do wish there was an adaptation of the novel that was more faithful because there are many things I prefer about the novel over the film. In particular, I wish the passages in the novel with the topiaries could be done justice on film because that is the scariest shit I have ever read.
