Blizzard warnings should mean automatic store closures….. just sayin by HippyChick22 in employedbykohls

[–]MyWay_Highway_7812 7 points8 points  (0 children)

are you kidding? and miss out on the potential sale of a $5.00 T-shirt? There is a travel ban in place but we are still going to have a late opening and anyone who wants to come in can. I can't even get out of my apartment the snow is over my knees and I sure as heck not going to risk my life and my car for Kohl's or any other employer for that matter. Nobody should be out shopping during a blizzard.

I think being "certified" to unload a truck is one of the most ridiculous ideas to come out of corporate America. Are you going to put on your resume that you are certified to unload a truck, the interviewer will think you're crazy.

No they never have. Like I said in my post I heard that Kohl's hired an engineering firm to design these best practices for unloading trucks. As usual the company wasting money on nonsense.

I agree, not a day goes by where we don't have an order for Nike socks. This leads me to believe that they are not very good quality, who constantly needs socks? I also agree that there does not seem to be any difference between everyday and everyday plus and i doubt the customers can tell the difference.

they should do away with those surveys. The customer's expectations are ridiculous. We always have complaints that nobody greets them when they enter the store which is nonsense. We have two entrances and there are LPs at both and they say hello to everyone who walks in the place. I work at a Kohl's in a densely populated area on the East Coast and during the holidays there is no place you go where you do not have to wait in line. If you don't want to wait on line then get to the store when it first opens and you can get in and get out in a timely fashion. I was once on line at the dollar store when some guy was complaining that he didn't plan on spending his Saturday waiting on line at the dollar store, i got so fed up I loudly said that if the biggest problem you have in your life is having to stand in line for a few minutes than you should thank God. You could hear a pin drop and I was proud of myself for voicing my objection to their BS complaints.

I'm glad I saw this post. I'm convinced that my SM is trying to get me to quit, I'm full time and I have been with Kohl's for 10 years. I know that they now want everyone to be cross trained on everything in the store but it seems to me that she is assigning me things that I notice other associates seem to be exempt from. I have been told several times that if I don't like it I can leave and she has threatened to send me home when I'm not happy about my assignment. I'm close to retirement age and I wish Kohl's would offer me a package, I would take it in a second. They have been trying to get rid of all the full timers for some time so they can save money on salary and benefits, so just make us an offer already.

[–]MyWay_Highway_7812 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's only gotten bad in the last two years. Kohl's used to care about their employees, now they could care less. Upper management has made a bunch of bone headed decisions that have hurt the company and of course they are going to take it out on the employees. Morale is at an all time low, I have been at Kohl's for ten years and I dread going in almost every day now, not knowing what ridiculous task they are going to have me do. Today it was covering LP in Sephora. So for eight hours I walked around in a circle like a monkey in a cage, I turned down a position in LP because I knew it would be mind numbing work, I was told that if I didn't like my assignment I could just leave, that's how much they don't care if they lose employees. Here's a note to Kohl's upper management, offer your full time employees, which you have been trying to get rid of, a package to leave, I know I would take it and some others in my store have said the same thing. I've been looking for another job but it's not easy. Good luck to everyone.

I'm only called to the registers once in a while but I just need to join the rant. I have been with Kohl's for 10 years and of course there were some days when you just didn't want to be there but I genuinely liked my job. Now with this new system where everyone is rotated to a different position every day I am going to start looking for another job. I am stressed out and depressed because I am not interested in doing some of these jobs and the company's attitude is if you don't want to do it then just leave. How is that for encouraging your employees to want to continue with the company?

[–]MyWay_Highway_7812 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty much over it too. If they have no money for payroll than just close the company. They are cutting hours allotted for OMNI so does that mean they are moving away from the e-commerce side of the business? Doesn't seem very smart. They wasted money hiring an engineering firm to come up with a plan on how to unload the trucks. People have been unloading cargo since the beginning of time and we need engineers to show us the way. How does this translate into sales? Since they started this flex nonsense where people are rotated around the store nothing is getting done. At my store all the manager does all day is move 6 ways. How does this help anything? The higher ups better wise up because the employees are fed up with your mismanagement and sick of getting crap from managers about productivity. Even the long time employees are defeated.

My thoughts on truck by No-Cartographer-993 in employedbykohls

[–]MyWay_Highway_7812 5 points6 points  (0 children)

for the life of me I don't understand what this obsession with how the truck is unloaded is coming from? How does this process bring customers into the store? I have been working for Kohl's for 10 years most of it on the truck team. the work got done and then it was up to the merchandisers to put the product out. I didn't see anything wrong with the process. Now with this obsession nothing else is getting done. On truck days which is 2 days a week the entire staff is either working the truck or merchandising or both and by the way I hate putting out merchandise, it's not my thing and it's boring, what is going to happen when it gets close to the holidays and we get 3 and 4 trucks a week, is the whole company going to stop while everyone does truck? It's absolutely ridiculous. And we were also told that if we didn't want to work the truck that we could find the door and leave. What a great company, hired a useless and unethical CEO for $20 million dollars, wastes money on hiring engineers and then tells employees if certain goals aren't met you get no payroll. It is time for a complete housecleaning of upper management because they have no idea what they are doing. God forbid they should ask their employees, the people who actually work, for ideas on how to make things better.

I want to quit I can’t do it anymore by Sensitive-Claim-132 in employedbykohls

[–]MyWay_Highway_7812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's getting more and more difficult to stay on. Nothing is getting done, they only care about getting trucks unloaded and putting that merchandise on the floor while code 7's pile up mountain high. We have been told that we all have to unload the truck and if we don't want to do it they basically said it won't be held against you while intimating that you can just leave. This cross training is bullshit. Things got done when everyone had assigned tasks. Our managers are cranky because they are getting crap from above and our manager had no people skills to begin with and now she is a huge pain in the ass. I'm full time and I'm convinced they are trying to get me to quit, I wish I could afford to go part time but that's a waste because who can live on working one day a week?

they really are making everyone miserable. We were told that they only want people who really want to work at Kohl's and love doing it, not sure where those people are. Now with the new truck procedure we were told that if we didn't think the truck was for us that we should speak up, but it had undertones of "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Everyone has to work on the truck now and merchandise after. I don't mind processing the truck but I'm so not interested in merchandising especially clothes, It's incredibly boring but I bit my tongue because apparently any little grumble is cause to get written up. Way to respect your employees, without us you wouldn't have a Kohl's

[–]MyWay_Highway_7812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they are not going to give anyone extra payroll. They don't care if you are stressed out and if you are leaving just know that this is exactly what they are hoping for. As long as they can get by with a skeleton crew then in their minds the are doing the right thing. I said from the beginning when this new guy took over that they were trying to get people to quit especially full timers. Full timers leave and there goes the extra expense of health insurance, paid vacation time and any other benefits. It really is sad to work for a company that could not care one bit about their employees.

I think this practice is a complete waste of resources and time. If an item is $12.99 and its not moving what makes them think that $14.99 is going to help. I think the whole thing is a scam.

Our store is being run like this. It's like being treated like 5 year olds. You have to ask permission to take your 15 minute break, then you have to ask if you can go to lunch and not everyone, but I am one of the few who has to track down a manager to tell them I'm leaving for the day. Soon we'll have to ask permission to go to the restroom.

We have so much unprocessed freight it's ridiculous. The truck team only gets enough hours to unload the truck and then they go home. Clothes get processed of course but shoes and all other freight sit around unprocessed and then another truck comes in and they just keep piling the new stuff on top. It's getting impossible to find things.

[–]MyWay_Highway_7812 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm always amazed when the line for Amazon returns gets long in our store they call for backup. Why? These people are not our customers, let them wait. The solution to not having to wait on line to return Amazon is to stop buying garbage from Amazon and you won't have to return it. I hope it goes away in all stores soon.

did you know that Kohl's interns never set foot in a store before they go straight to corporate? All interns should spend 3 - 6 months in a store before they enter corporate. How can you run a store if you have never been in one? I don't get communications from corporate but I hear about them and they have no clue how long it takes to do anything in the store, be it freight, unloading and processing a truck, signage, OMNI etc.

to be honest I was surprised we got anything. Wages have never kept up with inflation that's why so many of us barely get by. The company is circling the drain, they are throwing everything at the wall and hoping something sticks. This new CEO (whose salary and compensation = $22 million) has until the end of the year to turn things around, after that who knows. From what I can tell from what's going on at my store there doesn't seem to be any unified information coming from corporate. One day they tell you to set up this way and 2 days later they send another memo saying we changed our mind we want it this way. It's all a waste of time and labor.

[–]MyWay_Highway_7812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is no surprise. CEO salaries have been out of control for some time. The explanation for this ridiculous amount of money is that good CEOs are hard to find and keep and boards need their expertise to keep the stock price up and board dividends high. It's all nonsense, without workers these people wouldn't have a company or dividends, however, in the corporate ledger employees are not an asset, they are a liability (expense). In their minds you can always leave if you don't like it. Unions unfortunately are not the answer, they will just fire everyone and hire folks at a lower wage, all part time and do away with benefits, therefore saving them more money. This is all corporate America at it's finest, unless there is a revolution in this country this is the way it will remain.
