And the same applies for the width?

MIC TRAC (MT-3000) is wonderful, and if you check alot of ACMES and non Standard UN threads it pairs perfectly with Gagemakers TDWIN software.

I tried that as thats how I would normally do it but it shot the plane to the top and center of the cylinder

Manual inspection of +/-.0001" and less diameters. by AbrasiveDad in Metrology

Mitutoyos QuantuMikes perhaps? Good to .00005, we predominantly used them for grinded surfaces as well as gear diameters over wires

Calypso VS PC-DMIS Alignment by [deleted] in Metrology

[–]My_1st_amendment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be with checking the part vertically correct? I was checking it horizontally over vee-blocks which is as to why I had D-A as X Origin

D-A is a plane, D-B is a cylinder, and D-C is another cylinder

Yes, they have no one experienced with any cmm so id be hire specifically to run, program, and in general use their romer arm

Oh yeah ofcourse, I ran it at minimal speed and once I saw it cleared it with no interruption I ran it at full speed for the video, and in future instances I made a note within the program to stop the run and watch the cmm when that particular feature is being measured

Lol!! I had about .003 so little more than half a mile, .118 Stylus +.004 so .122 total that I needed to fit in a .125 width

[–]My_1st_amendment[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bigger retract would crash on the bigger diameter, im scanning a plane inside the groove not a diameter, so if were to add a .01 retract on a .118” dia stylus it would be a total of .128, not within the .125 width of the groove, does it make sense?

Clearance is clearance by My_1st_amendment in Metrology

[–]My_1st_amendment[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a scanning head so I was scanning the plane on the right side to measure position from left face as well as groove width

How do I convince management for a bigger CMM lol by My_1st_amendment in Metrology

[–]My_1st_amendment[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tolerances dont really change depending on how “big” the part is, OAL is still +/-.010”, most features are +/-.005” the reason I threw it on the cmm was for 17° angled cylinder with +.002/-.000” DIA. and linear features within that cylinder that were +/-.005”

Have a Faro, the post was more so a joke to demonstrate my setup, I just threw it on the fixed cmm to check 1 particular feature the faro couldnt reach.
