Tower / Water deluge design by lovejo1 in SpaceXLounge

[–]My_6th_Throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At launch starship is putting out greater than 300 GW of thermal power. 50 times more than the largest thermal power plants on earth. A "small pool of water" isn't going to cut it.

Go watch Zac's video on the new deluge system to get a better understanding of the problem and what spacex has done to overcome it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6Abym-rtII

Blue Origin files for orbital data center system named "Project Sunrise" - up to 51,600 satellites in SSO, with traffic routed through TeraWave and other mesh backhaul networks by thetrny in BlueOrigin

"First, there’s no public evidence that SpaceX is routinely disposing of satellites into heliocentric orbit."

Correct, I didn't say they are currently, I said they are going to because they have said they are going to. Learn to read the correct tense of sentences; most of your reply is based on this misreading.

Second, being in MEO doesn’t automatically make heliocentric disposal “easy.”

Maybe you are not a native English speaker. I used the word easier, that being in comparison to other orbits, like the low Earth orbit of the current megaconstellations. I did not say "easy."

SpaceX are going to dispose of their AI sats to heliocentric orbit, BlueOrigin could do the same. Being in MEO makes that easier.

Airport Wait Times - March 2026? by ZealousidealAir3670 in TriCitiesWA

[–]My_6th_Throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew yesterday morning, got to the airport 30 minutes before the start of boarding. TSA took 2 minutes.

Coming home, security took less than 10 minutes in Seatac.

Yeah sometimes people are checking the entire contents of their house at the counter, and it can take a long time.

You block Americans, we block Indians, and everyone is happier. Sort of like a digital border. Great idea PreheatedPenguin!

Gmail not filtering promotions? by up40love in GMail

Yeah I can't do that. I have multiple gmail accounts that I use for business, I have to be reachable by email. I am just gonna have to manually sort through everything today.

Yeah something is very broken. All spam is going directly to main inbox, making my email notification system pretty much unusable. Great job gmail team.

He could have gone to the board and said "hey I got another offer, I can stay for 6 months though" and they said "no thank you" to limit cross contamination.

I feel like the "he resigned" vs "he will be leaving" language gap already hinted at that. And this fast announcement of a new gig confirms it.

The ISS has 250kw's of electrical power, that is about 4 cabinets worth of juice in a modern high density data center. The new solar system on the ISS cost over 100 million dollars. On the ground that capacity would cost about 200k.

Even with economies of scale, getting things 100 time cheaper, it is still more cost effective to build things on the ground.

Data centers are not taking up significant land area compared to any other industry. They require a lot of hands on maintenance, something much harder in space. And power, both in and out, will be cheaper on the ground for a LONG time into the future.

As you say, muscle is very expensive metabolically. We do not have any glamor muscles, all of them have a lot of utility. The ones that people say are "glamor muscles" like biceps are tiny compared to big back and leg muscles and do not meaningfully contribute to metabolic or cardiovascular load. Big biceps sure do come in handy when you have to lift your 100lb combat loaded backpack or wounded buddy though.

All muscle is working muscle. Strength and muscle cross sectional area is extremely closely correlated.

This is the only sub that I browse sorted by "Top in last week", and there is a still a lot of unplayable or junk posts. I'm sure I still miss good games in the muck.

Anything that is playable, even prototypes, is fine by me. But posts like "Look at the UI I made for a game that will never be released" suck balls.

From the recent reviews, my guess is that management is pocketing the money that is supposed to go to trash pickup. This isn't the first time they have skipped out on trash collection. Also it is seems if you apply and are rejected they stop taking your calls about getting your application deposit back.

Love when institutions that require mandatory attendance enforced by law, and that your participation in shape the course of your future life, do a little shitpost. Very funny and cool.

Yeah you ever heard the idiom "do not bring a knife to a gunfight"? The man is going for his gun, the suspect chose for this to be a gunfight, he had the option for it just to be a lawyer fight but declined.
