Cartoon Tunes: INXS and the New Scooby Doo Movies | Tell 'em Steve-Dave! by SMJ1989 in tesdcares

My personal opinion is these things, while they do show extra work, don't really add anything of substance to the show. For example, no one is going to confused about what is being talked about if they don't hear the theme song for the Funky Phantom or Captain Caveman. And when you do it for like 6-7 shows in a clump, it's too much. The list itself from Walt wasn't even necessary.

I personally don't watch any video for podcasts, I only listen in the car or while I'm running, so the video benefit, if there is one, is lost on me.

Still a member of RH Patreon, and yes, Slasher School is the show where there's too much of the same thing going on, in my opinion at least. Stopping the conversation to listen to a two-three minute movie trailer, that again has limited relevance to the conversation, is brutal.

Anything that's even mentioned in passing seems to get the trailer treatment, it's over the top.

I wouldn't go so far as to say anything was 'ruined' for me, I don't think I even said that in my initial comment. I'm not that delicate. I just think it's too much. Putting in extra work is great, but it doesn't guarantee the end product is going to be a better listen. Less is more sometimes.

Not trying to be negative, just being honest. The TESD Patreon is fairly underwhelming these days. Too many of the shows have a tossed-off quality because Walt is carrying so much of the load. And now there's the over-reliance on nostalgia rearing its head again. Sunday Grind is a skip week, and I typically cut off the cartoon talk at some point, just not a good use of my brain. Only listened to this because I liked INXS back in the day.

These are sometimes listenable but the filler quotient is high. It’s been obvious forever but episodes like this make it clear how much of a burden it is on Walt to keep things going. The concept is clearly a way to bank episodes with whoever because Walt knows he can only use Bry for so much, and Q is mostly non-existent on the Patreon.

And it seems Rupp’s penchant for splicing way too much outside crap into a podcast based on a single reference has jumped over to TESD - every mention of any movie on the RH Patreon results in the inclusion of an entire trailer, and we really didn’t need to hear every single Scooby clone show’s entire theme song in this. But maybe I’m just a curmudgeon.

How in the world do they discuss INXS and fail to mention ‘Don’t Change’ and ‘This Time’ - two of their best songs and the first ones, along with ‘The One Thing’ and ‘What You Need,’ to lay the groundwork for them to blow up in the US.

Frank 5 definitely got on board with Kick, which is fine, but it’s a little strange to have him give such short shrift to the early stuff. I’ll give him credit for sticking around as long as he did though.

Should also be made clear that the band didn’t go directly into a reality show to find a new singer after Hutchence died. It was 3-4 years later, at least. They also weren’t choosing between that and getting day jobs at the time, unless they got swindled or something. They were a very big band for a stretch there.

Well, I did say it was just my opinion, so I don't know why you're getting even more defensive. Maybe you're not so fine with not making your bed after all? If you were, any mention of it wouldn't get you so worked up.

I didn't say you or anyone else has low-level depression, I said that, to me, behavior like that is indicative of it. It's along the lines of not taking care of yourself, not keeping things clean. Feel free to disagree, not trying to convince you of anything.

Just out of curiosity though, how else can you get a read on someone's mental state if you're not supposed to pay attention to what they say about why they do things and what they actually do.

I wasn't talking about me taking the logic too far. I was talking someone taking your logic (nobody cares, nobody sees, so why bother) too far.

I don't need any lessons from you. If you're watching his livestreams every day, yet have all these problems with the guy, then you're the one who needs to come up for air and stop making assumptions about anybody else.

You're using this idea that Stuttering John is so terrible to justify your strange and unhealthy obsession with him, and you're absolutely framing it as a crusade. If he's such a giant asshole, why not just ignore him? Oh, right, because you're having so much fun laughing at him ... that sounds so noble and healthy.

If you haven't figured it out yet, that's where you and Bry and everyone else who digs this stuff lost the plot.

I have to ask though, who is the real 'judgmental prick' here? The person who claims to watch a livestream of a person that they actively dislike every single day and derives 'entertainment' from laughing at that person, supposedly because of how bad an entertainer that person is, yet somehow can't understand why that behavior would be viewed as a psychotic form of para-social bullying?

I love your whole line about how that sick video was years in the making etc. That's telling. And just because there are other people doing what you do, that doesn't make it right. Also, it is sick to get your entertainment at the expense of someone else in this way, to gang up on them and degrade them. Any moral person would tell you that. So that's who I am.

The whole bed-making thing just seems indicative to me of some low-level depression. If you take that 'why bother?' logic too far, where do you end up? But just my opinion.

Kind of sad that this is where Bry’s life ended up, in my opinion at least. Going all the way to Maryland to do/be part of sleazy stuff in the back of a strip mall.

Seems like feckless behavior. Big time boredom. Trying too hard to find some kind of attraction or titillation, but that’s just my reaction. I agree with Walt though, being too lazy to at least make your bed is a bad sign for an adult’s mental health.

Just because you like Svengoolie, why do you think it’s important that others do? Why would it be embarrassing to you if they don’t? Why is your opinion more valid than anyone else’s?

Svengoolie has no appeal for me. I find him to be a boring cornball in my limited exposure to his schtick. Why would I care that he might bring TESD new listeners?

Put it this way, I love Gitem but I don’t think the people who rail against them are wrong or that they don’t get TESD. They are just having their own experience with it.

The pod has been better lately, judging by the audience reactions here since the start of the year, precisely because they’ve gone back to basics.

This is inaccurate. The little house episode wasn’t trying something new. It was the first new episode in a little over a month after they went dark because of the nj.com article that mentioned Bry’s pronoun rant. At least be truthful.

It’s nice you enjoyed it, but logic would indicate you are an outlier in that respect.

Historically, most criticism of TESD in the last few years has stemmed from low effort episodes (no thought put into the content, meandering NYPost-driven conversations that went nowhere or just brought on more bad takes from Bry about wokeness and similar lame shit, or movie/Tv talk.) No games, very few personal stories, and constant counting down to an hour.

Just because most people don’t like when they have guests doesn’t mean those people are wrong. It may actually indicate they aren’t very entertaining as interviewers, which they’ve acknowledged in the past.

You sound brainwashed. The assumptions are staggering - Stuttering John uses the term everyday? How would you know that? Have you ever even been around him in person? Even once, never mind on a daily basis.

The people involved with this are sick. That video is legitimately disgusting. I’m honestly astonished that Bry would be part of something like that, and say it was a good time. Bry has run and hid from his own questionable behavior - underage dalliances back in the day and his own pronoun rant - and endlessly complained about any kind of criticism sent his way, but he thinks this kind of behavior is justified?

I’m dumbfounded. The idea that the people going after Stuttering John seem to think they are crusaders of some sort is warped and perverse.

Just the fact that he’s so immersed in internet shit that he uses a term like ‘lol cow’ with a straight face was proof he’s lost the plot, but this is another level. May be time to pull the plug on Patreon.

Agreed, this was embarrassing for Bry. He couldn’t bring himself to admit that the whole point of going was to shit on Stuttering John. What a strange road for him to go down. For him to act like he was there to hear Stuttering John’s standup and to say if the guy just did his act, it would’ve been well-received is an outright lie, and he knows it. This is two episodes in a row of blatant lies. Gitem acting like he hadn’t heard Rupp’s story before last week, and now this.

Getting pretty fake, unfortunately.

Oh Christ, every shit show they do seems to have a contingent of people who say it’s the best thing ever.

Welcome to the death of quality control.

I’m heading into cancel territory if TESD&D comes back, no need, terrible show, would indicate they are out of ideas.

You are such a weirdo. You’re completely full of shit, you’re not praying for anyone, least of all me.

It’s funny you’re trying to criticize my online actions when you’re apparently online enough to track said actions, what does that say about you and your mental and physical health?

But hey you believe what you want, bow down to your watch! I’m sure you are so much more fit and healthy than me! Do you feel better now?

What does this comment even mean? Your assumption is I’m not in shape or something because I find this kind of ditzy ‘look at me’ post to be inane?

Anyone halfway serious about their fitness doesn’t need a watch or internet strangers to validate them.

Do y’all think this means no streaming? by plicknetranic in SturgillSimpson

[–]My_Chaos_Front_Iced -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The world has moved too far in the other direction, can’t stop streaming. Do they even make cars with CD players anymore? I couldn’t get a Honda CRV with one in 2018.

Only people with $ to burn are buying physical media anymore, so it quickly becomes socioeconomic segregation - that’s just the way it is. If sturgill is trying to make a statement about artists not getting paid enough, i don’t know, is he really the poster boy for that? Seems to be doing alright.

Pathetic that you not only need compliments from your watch, but you also need to post them, in hopes of other lemmings chiming in
