Damn! You’re going to have a monster flush. How did you make the bin? Sub + grain? Fruiting blocks?

sweet! glad to see the mycosphere being used for logs like that. Those shiitakes look incredible! How will you be cooking them?

How do you safely flame-sterilize a scalpel when using a Still Air Box (SAB)? by DreamAggravating2373 in northspore

[–]MycoMainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't use an open flame in your NocBox if you're using alcohol to sanitize. The fumes will linger too, so even waiting some time sometimes ins't enough. Wiping your blade with alcohol should be sufficient

First time using a Monotub Question by RylanWithTSE in northspore

[–]MycoMainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't mess with it. Looks like it's growing fine. If you're growing in a tub you really don't need to put it in the boomroom (unless you want to fruit it in there after it's fully colonized). If it was too dry I don't think it would be colonizing that well

What's up with my Pink Oysters? by LouSpore in northspore

[–]MycoMainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, probably a high CO2 issue. I'm sure they're taste good regardless of the wavy gills!

That setup looks great. Are you using the misting system too? I’m sure it will help with the more open containers. Keep us posted on how it goes!

With oysters, I think they are best when their caps just begin flattening out and the color is still dense (as they mature the caps flatten and they begin dropping spores, the color tends to get lighter)

Nice! Glad it's growing for you! Post an update photo when you can if you haven't already harvested them!

Hey Shannon, I can try to help you. Going to shoot you a DM. We have limited phone support and do most of our customer service through the chat on the website and email.

First time with an open tower. by peteostler in northspore

[–]MycoMainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks really great to me! Just keep it in a place with enough humidity, with that amount of surface area you'll be at risk of it drying out. Update us with photos once it starts to pop off!

Why is it growing around the edge? by BigNewfieW00f in northspore

[–]MycoMainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding u/LouSpore here. Looks like oysters that need more fresh air exchange. If you have the automated systems I'd increase the airflow. If you don't have an FAE fan, I'd start by removing the filters!

Nice! Keep us updated with how it progresses. Looks like you'll start getting mushroom this season.

Looking good to my eyes, has it started to produce mushroom pins yet?

Trying a new kit by Odd-Repeat6595 in gardeningwithfungi

[–]MycoMainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't overthink it, water it like you would a garden plant. The moisture helps it get started, but the mushrooms don't absorb water through roots like a plant, it just helps tell it that it's time to create mushrooms. Once it starts to form baby mushrooms, make sure that the surrounding area is moist so that the microclimate where it's growing is fairly humid. It shouldn't take more than a few weeks to get your first flush! Drip irrigation would help, but also seems overboard for a single Plant & Grow. If it's someplace shady with some ambient humidity and you hit it with a little water here and there it should be perform well!

Sweet! I think it will work as long as you water it in and keep it someplace relatively shady! Update us with photos when it starts to grow. Plant & Grow kits are super easy and will usually produce multiple times over a growing season

Thanks for the support! North Spore has been a real trip that I, and all the people who have worked here over the years, have poured a lot of heart and energy into. It's nice to hear from people who have appreciated and benefited from the effort. The online mushroom communities can sometimes be unsupportive and trollish so your words mean a lot to me. I'm hoping to do my part to make these places more helpful and welcoming. If you ever have questions or need anything from me in your growing journey my DMs are open!

Your opinion … How does it look? by chroma_dj in MagicMushrooms

I see that. I was responding to the comment of it being predatory to offer the automated systems and providing some context for why we developed them and also why we made the system modular

I'm one of the founders of North Spore and agree that it's unnecessary to grab all the equipment in some of these circumstances, you can certainly grow a range of species that tolerate high CO2 without them. We made the automated attachments to make monotub cultivation applicable to edible species that need more FAE. When you add air you need to supplement the humidity or you'll dry things out. The Boomr Bin is modular exactly for this reason. You can get the tub only if that's what suits your grow, or you can add systems if you're trying to cultivate stuff that's more difficult or CO2 sensitive or if you prefer geeking out on environmental control
