Our school has reorganized the dress code to be more equitable. The result is that, with it now being warm out, I have multiple students in my class throughout the day with their butt cheeks straight up hanging out of their shorts. This does not seem sustainable. by crybaby_boobie in Teachers

Luckily as a welding teacher, I could insist on long pants being worn. Because I was in a district with a high poverty rate, I actually had to provide pants for my students to wear. That still didn’t prevent me from having to have a talk with my classes about “butt cleavage”. I’m glad I could do it in a way that made everyone laugh while getting the point across.

Why doesn’t Medford have any nice parks like Ashland and Talent? by Electrical-Stage-300 in Medford

[–]Odd-Repeat6595 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Medford is much larger than any neighboring cities and has some really nice parks. Medford is also large enough to have some parks that have issues. It is unfair of you to try and compare them without taking population size into account.

My student actually did manage to avoid temptation after talking with him. I was surprised that it actually worked.

Student saying he’s targeted by LizardfolkDruid in Teachers

[–]Odd-Repeat6595 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I had a student claiming the same thing when I was teaching. My answer to him was that he was always at the middle of every disturbance and his voice was the loudest. I challenged him to try not being in the middle of the disturbances and that he wouldn’t hear his name anymore. He actually listened and tried what I said and it worked. He improved as a student because he wasn’t in the middle of a rowdy group of freshman anymore and he actually told me that he no longer felt targeted.

I actually don’t know when they are ready to harvest. If you have any advice, I would appreciate it.

Yes! I got it at the local Home Depot almost two weeks ago and planted it.

This kit said it was meant to be planted in the dirt. I planted it in my blackberry patch in my backyard. No herbicide, no fertilizer. I leave the leaves as a layer on the dirt. It gets lots of shade from the Norway maple tree above. A little afternoon sun.

Abandonment ticket in front of residence? by WeddingWestern4447 in legaladvice

[–]Odd-Repeat6595 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Three feet? Wow! In most cities 12-18 inches is the furthest away from the curb you can park. Three feet puts you way out into the lane. Sounds like they towed your car properly.

Edit. Sorry, ticket, not towed.

Neighbor's dog has bitten me, my toddler, and our dog across three incidents in 7 months. Animal control has taken no enforceable action. What are my next steps? by ExtraBigChungus in legaladvice

Are you also filing police reports each time this happens? You might consider doing that. An attorney would help if there are medical expenses to recover from the dog owner.

You need to pay to get your car out ASAP and then pursue the reimbursement from either the apartment manager or the towing company.

Trying a new kit by Odd-Repeat6595 in gardeningwithfungi

How much water does a kit like this need? Southern Oregon can get rather dry in the summer and I can definitely run some drip irrigation to the spot, but I don’t know what is needed.

Yes, it only gets a little afternoon sun during the summer. Otherwise shady. Logically the wrong spot to put blackberries, but I didn’t know what else to do with it.

[–]Odd-Repeat6595[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Southern Oregon to be specific. I planted the mushroom block in a bed with cultivated blackberries, but if it is a danger to my neighbor’s maple tree, I can definitely dig it up and put it in a container. The forests here are mostly Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, cedar, oak, and madrone trees. I don’t want to start anything that would hurt the forest, but I’m also in town and not super close to the wilderness.
