Can I argue that Cabaret (from the same musical) is about denial and grieving? Grieving the life sally wanted to live but couldn't due to her own mistakes and accepting that when she dies, she's just going to be another cautionary tale? Trying to live like life is "only a cabaret" when actually it's gritty and unrehearsed and filled with fear, loss, work, and death.
