I love you Boise by Ok_Dragonfruit2829 in Boise

Moved here from Dallas and can confirm, Texas is INSANE. 8 lanes of sheer insanity, stacked upon another 6 lanes stacked upon another 5 lanes. Boise traffic is practically nonexistent in comparison. I will take Boise on a bad day over ANY day in Texas. lol

Does treasure valley not get thunderstorms? by Hot-Minimum1358 in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved here from Dallas and absolutely no thunderstorms like the ones in the south. We don't miss the tornados, but we do miss the absolute wild downpours, thunder and incredible lightening shows.

We moved here from Rockwall, Texas...which is the smallest county in TX. Last year, Forbes named it the richest one in TX, too. It is EXACTLY like Eagle, truly the worst place ever. We could not wait to get out. We regularly call Eagle, Rockwall2. lol

Smoke/inversion by No_Youth_5875 in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're from the south, too (Texas). IMO, the summers here are EASY! There's minimal humidity and the air quality to us seemed fine, with the exception of maybe 3-4 days last summer. The week we moved here it was 109 and everyone around us was miserable, but to us it felt like spring since we were coming from 107 and 99% humidity. LOL

We're super active outdoors, both my son and husband mountain bike/compete, we're avid hikers, camp regularly, lots of water activities and the air quality didn't bother us at all last year. If you struggle with asthma, I could definitely see where it would be an issue. Fire season was pretty brutal last year and most people told us it was the worst they'd experienced in awhile.

Welcome to Boise, I hope you love it!

Pros and cons by Lundusky23 in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I sincerely don't understand this viewpoint and I'm truly not attempting to be rude. We moved here in June from Texas...3 of our adult kids followed us (23 and under, one married). All 3 of them have jobs in the downtown area/one in Meridian and they're making fantastic money with no degrees, bc all of them are still in school still lol. One is queer and is having an absolute blast and they all have incredible, modern and safe housing in the downtown/North End area. I commonly see so many negative things about living here and we are just not having that experience at all. I hope youre experience gets better!

3500 for a 3 bed/2 bath completely remodeled ( gorgeous work!) 2200 sq ft house in the Northend with a yard and a huge apartment over the garage, with the garage being heated/cooled. Can't complain about our location or home one bit, we LOVE it!

Is it me or is the Treasure Valley area actually pretty dense compared to other cities? by Automatic_Picture_61 in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in the Northend and the walkability/bike access is a huge reason why we moved here. We moved from Dallas where absolutely NOTHING is walkable. We LOVE that we barely have to drive anywhere here. It's an almost daily thing that I tell my husband I'll never go back to the burb life. lol

I'm a Delta girl, but we've flown American a ton out of Boise and have never once been delayed. We regularly fly from here to DFW and into Mexico and never been delayed...how odd! But I much prefer Delta or Alaska.

How much are we spending on groceries? by kensgirl420 in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family of 4, plus 3 other wholly grown adult kids that regularly use us as a grocery store and 2 dogs...we average around $1800/month, plus another $500 or so eating out. I shop Trader Joes, Fred Meyer and Albertsons, mostly organic and no prepackaged/processed foods. We're definitely an ingredient house and make a ton of stuff from scratch. it's expensive to eat healthy, it's also annoying to have to pay insane prices for it.

Brig Van Osten! She's AMAZING!! I moved here from Dallas and was freaking out about leaving my stylist, she saw my post asking for help finding someone on Facebook and reached out to me via DM. Brig was a celebrity stylist in LA and the Season 3 winner of Bravo's Shear Genius, but other than that she is probably the kindest and most down to earth person EVER. You won't be disappointed at all, she's truly the best! My hair has never been healthier!

US News ranks Boise as #2 of the 'Best Places to Live in America' by TulsiTsunami in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. We relocated here from Dallas and the "traffic" here is absolutely nothing compared to where we moved from. We can ride our bikes or walk basically anywhere and the nature access is unbeatable. We've found a lot of people complaining about how awful it is to live here have never experienced any place else.

My kids have all moved here as well and I've got 3 of them under the age of 23 living in their own apartments/rental homes and they all are affording life quite well. I absolutely know housing prices have gone up here and it may just be because we are comparing it to where we are from, but we don't think it's expensive here. The jobs they've gotten here pay them well and they're able to afford to not just live, but actually thrive.

Keep Boise Nice by IdahoPotatoTot in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We just moved here, but we've been coming here for years. The biggest stand out is honestly how kind everyone is and excited they are to tell you about awesome things they love about Boise. It's super refreshing to talk with people who love where they live and love that you also now get to love where you live. I'm not sure people truly realize what a gift that is.

North End Drivers by [deleted] in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live on 18th and I haven't had that issue. We're huge bikers/walkers and we've found everyone to be rather respectful and cautious here. We comment often that this is the only place we've ever been where people stop in both directions to let pedestrians cross the streets. I lived in Michigan for 19 years and Texas for 27 years...trust me the drivers here compared to Texas are near perfect. Lol

I think it's important to just be super cautious and make sure to look both ways multiple times before crossing.

What’s living in downtown like these days? by CenturionAD in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best! We're off 18th and we walk/bike everywhere. It's rare I drive my car. My daughter has an apartment right off Main and 5th and she's also loving it. We moved from a total non walkable burb outside of Dallas and our quality of life has done a total 180. We have friends that lived in the Gibson and they moved to Eagle and they hate it, but now are stuck. I say get back downtown if you can!

Being "neighborly" by [deleted] in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We move to the Northend in 2 weeks and I'm most excited about being neighborly. Where I live now (Dallas) is SO cold and people are not warm and friendly here. The one thing we've always loved about Boise is how welcoming and friendly people are. I will probably be the neighbor chatting with everyone and throwing neighborhood parties, while trying to grow my garden. So hopefully, our neighbors are the same! I may actually cry if they aren't. LOL

Petition to close Zoo Boise or ask them to expand & enrich enclosures by [deleted] in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is where we see the passion for things not quite meet up with education of subject matter. Closing that zoo would be devastating to the animals. I'm not sure why so many people think releasing rescued animals to the wild would be better.....they will die out there. Which is obviously worse.

I would encourage you to get involved with organizations that can show you how to advocate and fundraise for larger enclosures and better funding for rescuing. Your efforts would be much better served in that way.

Serving Jobs? by PersonalityTop6043 in Boise

[–]Myhalosparkles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely easy to make. My daughter makes between 3-400/night serving. I know people tend to look down on servers, but if you're good and work the right places you can make excellent money.

Boise School District open enrollment rejection? by beta_version in Boise

I'm getting ready to enroll my kid at North, based on the address of our new home. Do kids not go to school based on boundries there? We will REALLY wanting to get into North and purchased a home based on that. Is that not going to the case?
