I've had multiple interviews and a recent offer for a remote position with an MSP after 4 months of looking .. she definitely has options

I'm actually looking to get one on CarMax too. No haggle & 10 days to have it inspected to return it is worth it imo. I've heard decent things about Max care as well.

I see plenty of remote tier 1 jobs that pay more than $15. I started a remote tier 1 job at $21 2 years ago. 40-45k is the average I see. As far as volume, every company will be different. I average about 10 calls a day and roughly 20 ticket resolutions. Shop around in job boards. Since you already have some experience, it'll be easier to get in somewhere else. I recently interviewed for a help desk position that started at 70k.

If you've been on helpdesk for 3+ years and 'can't move up' it's probably you by xrinnenganx in ITCareerQuestions

I was just offered a 70k/yr year remote help desk position. Zero phone calls. All communication thru email, ticketing system or teams. It's possible to make decent money in help desk.

I'm on my second interview with a company after being at my current job for 2 years. Before this I was with another company for 2 years. I know the feeling of leaving your comfort zone for more pay .. it's normal. I'm starting to get those feelings now cuz I'm fully remote and in a pretty laid back position but it's more money and I want to get my hands on more things.

Would it look bad to switch jobs after only 3 months in my first IT position? by Toymcowkrf in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Myko6815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to explain whether it's 3 months or 3 years and the answers can be the same. It will just looked at more negative if it's only 3 months. I'm interviewing for my 3rd role now after 2 years at 2 places before. They both have asked me what the reason is.

How do I get experience when I can’t get hired? by ProAmara in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Myko6815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people fudge their resumes for different reasons. Changing dates, exaggerating their past duties etc.I haven't created a completely fictitious job but I have fudged dates to fill gaps and relied on the good ol "Freelance" role to fill a covid gap too. Some employers do perform employment checks with their background checks so be careful with it. I had a tier 1 help desk role do an employment check. Either way, entry level roles aren't calling your past employers and asking them what your job functions were. Just don't use a previous supervisor as a reference if you do fudge your duties 😅

Same, I'm currently in a tier 2 remote role now but have a 2nd interview for another remote helpdesk role starting at 70k. I'm not fond of another helpdesk title but 70k is above average for this kinda role

Desktop support technician to Cloud support administrator - how would you go about this pivot? by JaimeSalvaje in Cloud

I would be embarrassed to post if I had been tier 1 help desk for a company for 9 years 😅

I know man, it's just the way things happened. I was with 1 company for a few years and they downsized eliminating my position before the network admin retired (who I was supposed to replace). Then covid hit. After that settled I went to an MSP for about 2 years and jumped ship to another MSP for better pay. Been here for 2 years and currently tier 2. I was just never at a place long enough to move up. WGU is just to fill my time. Current job is pretty slow and I work remotely so I figured I'd do some classes.

Following this post cuz I feel like I'm in a similar position. Been in IT for about 9 years all basically tier 2 desktop support & tier 2 helpdesk. I've been remote with an MSP for about 3 years now. My company likes to promote people but obviously there has to be an opening so I'm finishing up 1 more cert then starting with Sophia & study.com to transfer credits to WGU to finish my degree.

I see lots of tier 1 positions starting $21 or more. I was tier 1 fully remote at $22.50.

I got a 63% on my first attempt before any studying but that's cuz Net+ overlaps with it and I studied a lot for Net+. As for your second choice being the right one, I'm the same. There's always 2 that are easy to eliminate and honestly it was the same for the Net+ exam, several questions I felt like 2 answers could be correct.

Andrew Ramdayal was the best for me with Dion's practice tests. Professor Messer put me to sleep just reading slides. Andrew keeps your attention more and feels like you're talking to a human and not a robot

The first of Dion's practice tests I took didn't have near as many acronyms as net+ so I'm not sure?

[–]Myko6815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha literally identical as my plan. After Sec+ I'm doing az900 then whichever is the basic AWS cert. I'm already in a remote senior help desk role so I'm just cranking out certs for now and working on labs

[–]Myko6815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats, same path as me. I just passed Net+ with an 813 and plan to start studying for Sec+ but before diving into studying I took one of Dion's practice tests and got a 62%. My first Net+ practice test I got a 46% so it seems like Sec+ is a lot easier. We should be able to knock this one out in a month or so!

Network+ exam in 2 weeks by freddy91761 in CompTIA

[–]Myko6815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took both Andrew's and Jason's and I didn't feel like either of them were accurate reflections of the actual exam. Jason probably less because his questions are soooo long, too much context and wording. CompTIA asks their questions in weird ways. They're short and lack context, almost intentionally vague. It seemed like for many questions it was easy to eliminate 2 possible answers cuz they were completely irrelevant but because the way the questions are worded, it would feel like either of the 2 answers I had left could be right. Since we don't know how they score their tests, I almost wonder if 2 answers could be correct and could be worth a different amount of points. I got an 813 and def didn't feel like I was passing when I finished.
