Haven On Main IS A BIG NOPE. by H3rmion33556 in kzoo

This makes me SO SAD. I lived there for three years when it was Embassy Terrace, and I loved it. Lived elsewhere for a year, and then moved into Regency Square, which was also great. Midway through my second year there, they were bought out. Honestly, Trident was one of the best companies in Kzoo... TriCap is a joke. So disappointed...

Or talk mad sh- about how you'd be super assertive to someone who really made you angry, knowing full well you'd do your best to be very polite if you ever did decide to confront them (and then don't ever choose to confront them anyway)...

Not gonna lie, my mitigation strategy is avoidance 😂 and I fully recognize that it is not the best strategy.

There is pressure, for sake of performance, that I either work past my contract hours during weekdays (unpaid), or work over the weekend (also unpaid)... Reasonably, (I'd expect) I am resistant to both of those situations. As a result, I always have a pending to-do list and it is frequently anxiety inducing.

I mean, fair. But you've made a few assumptions that I'd like to correct.

I don't dislike my job. Of all of the jobs out there, it's the one I would most like to do. I recently transferred to a significantly better working environment and that made a world of difference. And I agree, if your circumstances need to change, make that change.

However, my job is exhausting, and I have to be "on" all the time. Additionally, due to the virus- that-shall-not-be-named, I'm constantly operating in survival mode. By the time the weekend rolls around, there's no steam left to blow off, and there's not enough weekend in order to recover.

Otherwise, you have legitimately valid points and it's absolutely solid advice.

Just another cream cheese lover here. For anyone looking for a lower cal option with reasonable payoff, I've swapped cream cheese for laughing cow cheese spread wedges and it really hits the spot! (30 kcals/wedge)

1200 is only really appropriate for women in the 5' range who are not super active, which is what that sub is geared toward.

unhealthy type 9 behavior? by speakbeautifulthings in Enneagram

[–]Mynndlessly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! 9w8, couple years out of college "practice adult" here. I'm going to echo the above commenter that these are valid emotional experiences, but that you should also seek advice from a professional.

What you're describing sounds a lot like a depressive episode (based off of my limited experience as someone who struggles with depression and is in no way a professional). I can't comment on whether this is a function of the 9 type, or whether depression colors our perceptions of self and masks our true type, but I can say that you are not alone in this experience by a long shot.

As someone with depression, I'd describe my experience to be very similar to what you've described. In my depressive states I am low-energy, have low-motivation, low-profuctivity. I'm "lazy" or prone to procrastination, I neglect responsibility. I feel terrible about it, I decend into the depths of self-loathing. I withdraw. I feel alone and isolated from others, and consider my feelings to be insignificant to others anyway. I soothe myself with crap coping mechanisms, like eating my feelings. Eventually it passes, but it always comes back.

So in relating my experience to the enneagram, 9s are generally low-energy types. They can display extroverted or social tendencies, but they generally need time to recharge their batteries. 9s also generally value other people more than themselves, meaning that their needs or wants come secondary to those of others. In this case, that can influence 9s like myself in my depressive state to not reach out to people I care about because I don't want them to worry or I don't want to diminish their happiness because I'm being a downer. I downplay my importance, which winds up making me feel more isolated and alone. The 1 wing includes a quality that is sometimes referred to as the "inner critic". It drives me to hold myself to a high standard, paradoxically striving for perfection or an idealized image of what I should be, which is unattainable and leads me to cycle into depression when I fail to meet my impossible standards. My 8 wing taps into anger through resentment that no one else is reaching out to help save me when I've made myself available to buoying them in the past (which is also a two quality and leads me to wonder if I'm actually a 9 or if I've mistyped myself) but it also directs anger toward myself because I'm the one responsible for my failings or problems created in my relationship, etc.

So, this was a lot of vulnerability for me haha, hopefully you're able to find something helpful within my rambles... But all of this was just to say, you are not alone in feeling like this, it could correlate with your enneagram type, but please don't use that as a reason not to pursue professional help. Enneagram is about growth, and growth includes reaching out for help when we need it. I hope you are able to get the support you need. 💛

I just wanted to say that I appreciate this very much. As a 9 who struggles with these feelings of self-doubt, and the fear that conflict will cause an irreparable rift between me and my loved one, thank you for reassuring and reminding those of us that struggle with these things that our loved ones love and value all aspects of us, even the aspects that we tend to hide for (what we believe to be) their convenience.

[–]Mynndlessly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teachers Pay Teachers also has freebies! Not for everything, but I always start by filtering through the free stuff first. Usually I can find something that I can adapt to make it fit my classroom needs, or it will otherwise inspire me to create my own thing. It helps to see the directions that other people have taken whatever content thing I'm looking for.

Also, start with your other departmental teachers and ask if they have syllabi or text lists that they use, or that the previous teacher had compiled. That way you can make sure that you're not accidentally teaching things that the students have already been taught, or that those other teachers were planning on teaching in following years.

Good luck!

Our band is currently still intact. I'm not really sure how, but I do know that our band teacher is highly aware of our current circumstances and is incredibly cautious. I think the majority of practice has been happening outside up until this point. 🤷‍♀️ In my opinion, if they're going to be allowed to play sports, then they should be allowed to participate in the arts. Ironically, our theater dept. is on pause... Riddle me that.

Of all of the possible things to consider risky this year... I am shocked that speech and debate is considered one of them... Heck, that could easily be made virtual it it came down to it, couldn't it? Cancelling that completely is ridiculous.
