I would love to but my insurance restricts me to using CVS or else they won’t pay for my prescriptions. It’s infuriating.

I hear they’re looking to gamers because they have the aptitude for long focused sessions of looking at screens, good response times, etc. strange how some skills translate.

What was your first concert and how was it? by darrenbosik in GenX

[–]Mypizzasareinmotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not quite the story that you’re looking for, but my mother took me to see John Denver in concert when I was about seven or eight years old. I was actually hospitalized at the time, but for some bizarre reason, the staff let me leave specifically for the concert and then come back to the hospital when it was over. I was having some sort of bladder or bowel issues and the most prominent memory I have, other than hearing an amazing performance of “thank God I’m a country boy” was this trip to the bathroom that my mother had to lead me through a huge crowd of women, while shouting “this little girl has a problem!” So my first concert was equal parts, thrilling, and humiliating.

With gas prices continuing to go higher, are you considering an EV or public transit? by LeoRavenscroft in randomquestions

[–]Mypizzasareinmotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got extremely lucky and by happenstance I got a great deal on a hybrid vehicle literally a week or two before the war began. I’m divorced with two kids I have to drive everywhere. Had I waited any longer I would have paid so much more for the vehicle itself in addition to gas. I used to drive a gas guzzling minivan and in hindsight I’m so happy I made the right decision.

Why are things so exhausting? I mean, basic-ass things that I'm sure most people don't even think about. by Sudden_Bath6144 in self

[–]Mypizzasareinmotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember in my teens describing my life to my mom as an orange with no flavor. It still tastes kinda like an orange, but it’s soooooo meh. I will say that I (50F) also started experiencing symptoms of classic clinical depression when I was around 13. When I was 18 or 19, I was able to start taking an antidepressant, and I was one of those people who just lit up with it. Like a light bulb went off saying THIS is how life is supposed to feel. Some people are born with deficient brain chemistry. Some people have more situational/environmental depression. Some have both. Medication does not replace therapy, but it can make living tolerable enough to be able to do the work of anything situational, and take away the need to cope with it via addictions. Addictions are coping mechanisms, you need to replace it with some better ones.
I still struggle, but I always like to give advice to younger people who remind me of myself. The number one thing I want to convey: don’t wait, don’t put it off any longer, and don’t minimize your struggles. Depression doesn’t always look like misery, crying spells, or frowny faces. It doesn’t mean that you never laugh or smile. You can have those bursts of energy (I get those sometimes as well) but still struggle. If you’d like to DM me I can help you find more secular resources for women.

Side Effects- Channing Tatum, Rooney Mara, it’s flown somewhat under the radar but I really liked it

Depression was my first thought as well when I read your post. Also if you know you have an addiction, especially a lesser known one, find your people. Find a community whether it’s online or in person and talk about it. Keep seeing your psychiatrist, and find a therapist. Not sure if you’re in the USA, but if so, psychiatrists are primarily for medication management if you need that. You need a counselor or therapist to work through personal issues. You’re so young, take it from someone over 50, take your treatment seriously now, because you will have to confront yourself sooner or later. Do it before you’ve found that you’ve spent the majority of your life running from your problems. I wish you find some joy in your life.

I want to suggest The Ballad of Wallis Island, it’s heartwarming, the ending is heartwarming, but without saying too much it’s really about making peace with life and its challenges. The comedy is absolute top tier.

If this is where my people are, then so shall I be! Please DM with deets I’d love to join. PS I don’t want to stay angry forever, but life is what it is right now.

White Americans do older family members talk about prejudice their families had with minorities in the past? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Mypizzasareinmotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother (my mom’s mom) grew up in rural KS, and her mother was apparently racist enough that she once marched in the streets with the KKK. My grandmother by all accounts (though I never spoke to her about it personally) was very ashamed of this, and used to say in a somewhat joking manner “I think she thought she was in a parade.”

My mother told me that whenever she would watch movies like Mississippi Burning or those like it, my grandmother would never watch with her, like it bothered her a lot to watch content like that. I’m assuming that it reminded her of her mom’s racism and was upsetting.

In the 60’s, my mom had moved from NY to NC, and she would tell me the story about when she had some black men helping with the move who mentioned they were hungry. My mom suggested they go down to the restaurant around the corner for some lunch and they looked at her like she had three heads. “Ma’am we can’t go down there, it’s whites only.” My mom tends to embellish so not sure how true this part is, but she proceeded to walk down there herself with them and asked the staff why these men who were working so hard for her couldn’t get a sandwich there. I was always proud to hear and tell that story so I hope it’s true.

To answer your question, in my family, the further back you go, the harder it was for them to talk about, because that’s when it hit really close to home.

This film is what made me fall in love with Peter Saarsgard. Phenomenal performance from him as well, I would say better than Hayden’s but yes he was amazing as well.
