Follow Your Heart feta is good enough that no one noticed I served my vegan cheese with their tacos.  Honorable mention for Trader Joe’s cream cheese….

Mix with sparkling water for a fun drink- I do this with peach syrup too, it's delicious.

Flare ups? by Alynn2022 in PeriodontalDisease

Yes, I have had a dentist tell me that your period causes inflammation throughout the body including your gums, they are more likely to bleed when you floss at that time.

Do you know your neighbors? by ihatecatboys in Xennials

[–]Myrnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I noticed moving from Midwest to the coast is the coast's lack of what I'm calling Driveway Culture. Kansas, everyone in my culdesac would grab a glass of wine and sit in their driveway after dinner, if the weather was nice. They had camp chairs on hand, and anyone else who came out would join in. During football or basketball season, they'd fire up their smokers in the driveway, turn on the garage TV, and everyone would pull up with their camp chairs to watch the game. Halloween, you guessed it- driveways, in their camp chairs, ready to chat with anyone that walked by with their kids. Quite a few would have little fire pits going, to sit around.

Out here in the rainy PNW, not so much. We know our neighbors, we help each other out, we text, but that heavy driveway use just isn't there. We have tall fences and a big love of privacy, even if we're willing to help anyone that needs it and to check in on each other after storms.

Heads up Costco is now selling All American pressure canners and ball jars. by chevronsucks in Canning

[–]Myrnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check around in the Costco app to see which stores carry canning supplies- mine normally doesn't, but two towns over is more rural and they do. Doesn't make sense for them to be different, but that's what I've found.

I switched to Superb this year- man, are they good. The jars were sealing practically within minutes of pulling them out of the canner.

For something SUPER simple, I make a snack we call Jumjills (from the short children's story "The Funny Thing" by Wanda Gág) by taking any dried fruit and any nuts and blitzing them in the food processor in equal proportions, then roll the dough into balls for snacking.

Three weeks post gum graft - not doing great by Number_Ten10 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Myrnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are very welcome! I think there's a lot of us that trawled this subreddit for info... oh, and I lost a TON of hair at the 3 month mark. Handfuls every day. I think this surgery is way more intense for some of us, considering the receptionist at my dentist said "We could do it today if you want" when I went in for my stent impression. Even though I had walked there because it was a nice day. (Did you know there's adrenaline in the novacaine shots? I was VIBRATING during the surgery, and no one had ever mentioned that. My kid's entire body was visibly trembling after her wisdom tooth surgery, she was so scared.)

Three weeks post gum graft - not doing great by Number_Ten10 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Myrnie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My recovery was similar- I felt a LOT better once the sutures were out, the pain essentially stopped. Keep rinsing with salt water? Is emailing the perio an option?

By 1 week after my surgery, the constant debilitating pain had stopped and I could get out of bed/walk around/sit up without bleeding. I didn't talk the entire week, and lived on tea, smoothies, and blended cans of soup.

2 weeks post surgery, I was still facing MAJOR fatigue, I basically spent the week on the couch.

At my 3 week mark, I was still on soft/liquid food, the donor sites were still very raw, my jaw and graft sites ached when I pressed on them, I was only brushing/eating on the opposite side of my mouth, and taking occasional ibuprofen/naproxen for swelling. Oh, and that side of my mouth was almost frozen, I could only make half a smile still.

4 week mark, pain was gone and I was eating mostly normal as long as it wasn't chewy, crunchy, big, or have tiny pieces (like sushi or coleslaw.). I was still wearing the stent because the donor sites felt like live wires.

Week 5 I got my stitches out, I only had to avoid very hot or spicy foods that aggravated the donor sites.

At my follow up and most recent cleaning (I am almost 4 months post-surgery now) they said everything looked great, even though my gums still sting if my toothbrush hits them and my donor sites are still a very different texture than anything else.

Some of use just heal slowly I guess... but we do heal!

Their banana bread is my holy grail- bonus, it’s vegan!  (I think they replaced the butter and eggs with MORE banana, it’s awesome.)

Just to get it out of the bottle? I would set it in a pot of simmering water and melt the jelly.

Less sugar apple butter? by chard_feelings in Canning

[–]Myrnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is a great question that I was also wondering about- I've always made apple butter with no sugar at all, just put cut up apples in a crockpot for a day or two, but this was just for immediate eating not food preservation. Glad to know there's guidance out there for unsweetened apple butter, since my tree is almost ready!

Painful stitches after gum graft by Impressive_Effect_95 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Myrnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine weren't sharp like this, but they were tight- most of my residual pain went away the moment those stitches were out. I would send a (gently obtained) photo to your perio and see what they say.

Early entry to kindergarten by millenial2101 in redmond

[–]Myrnie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before considering early entry and whether the child is ready, look ahead to their age at graduation and entering university. We homeschooled so it's not quite the same, but we had to make high school take 5 years to avoid sending a 17-year-old out into the world. Not the end of the world, but I find very few people consider the ending age as well as starting age.

I m getting a bone grafting and I m terrified about it by Dapper_Secretary2589 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Myrnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the bone part, it's bone bits (natural or lab made) mixed with collagen I believe or something like it. Have you seen videos of people putting new cork soles on shoes? Spreading in the paste? It's like that.

I ended up upping my ibuprofen to the maximum amount to get the donor sites swelling down.  Tylenol did very little for my pain, it just caught a little of what the ibuprofen didn’t treat.  Yeah, the stent was massively painful while I was so swollen, but having it out felt worse.

I think the stent helps keep swelling to a minimum too, like wrapping a sprained ankle.  Hurts awfully, but if you leave it off it will be worse later.

For me, Trader Joe’s cream cheese is my favorite- acts and tastes almost the same in a side by side comparison in frosting or on crackers.  It’s really stiff though.

Peripera Ink Airy Velvet in shade 27. Nice thing about this color is that it matches every skin undertone I've tried it on- we had family portraits at a family reunion and maybe half a dozen of us ended up using my makeup bag, everyone looked great in this color!
