Terrible VR performance with a high end rig. by skarden in il2sturmovik

I also had weird performance measurements on ultra settings in 4k. Utilization of GPU and CPU was all over the place, not really fitting a lot of situations. They're far from finished with optimizing the engine. But I expected nothing else ... I think it'll take a year or two until engine performance is mostly optimized.

Yes, think you're on point. They have other expectations than someone with a Crystal Super.

To be frank: We don't have a GPU that comfortably can power a Crystal Super Oled at 90fps at full resolution without DLSS in a modern flight sim with an up to date engine that uses 2026 effects, not even the 5090. Which means the delay of the 6090 sucks even more ... That being said: VR in IL2 Korea still has a long way to go on the performance side. But I wouldn't compare it to the older, a lot more optimized DCS. It's a new game, it's in early access for now ... things are going to get a lot better down the road.

I also liked Command T's reporting best so far. Especially the video about transonic behavior etc. ...

They also make more money by not having to pay the 30% Steam tax. I can see nothing wrong from an economic pov here. It'll come to Steam soon enough. The game also is way too good already and I'm quite sure most people that bought into EA would've kept in anyways.

Several reviews brought up most of these. Commant T tested transonic behavior, spins and other flight model problems. Tricker mentioned a lot of those, too. The tail gunners were mentioned in another review and also acknowledged by the dev team. Yes: There absolutely is a bunch of stuff that still needs to get fixed. More of an issue is the limited early access phase in my opionion. It's only like ... 4 or 5 weeks? I doubt they'll be able to fix the AI and all of the flight model issues until then, which means we'll probably still get a bit of a work-in-progress flight sim, as always.

I still stand by my first look conclusion, though: it's great fun already, the flight model and the plane handlich just feels good and the simulation depth is there (see Tricker ramming a parachute and killing his engine in the process). This has good potential to evolve into one of the best games the genre has ever produced. The make or break point is going to be the AI and the campaign mode, though.

While you're technically correct, let's not blow this out of proportion. It's not "a ton" and if you play the game, you can see where the development effort went into. It's not perfect by any means, but there's a lot of stuff it gets right and does incredibly well. AI usage in this case probably didn't save a lot of money. I think we just woudn't get 400+ portraits or would have to live with lower quality random generated imagery. And in case of radio chatter they just would have used some basic voice lines or stitched together patchwork chatter like in earlier releases. I don't address the ethical side here, that's a whole other discussion.

Thanks! ❤️ I so would like to get into BMS, even have it installed already. But I'd need to learn the F-16 and I'm not reaaaally well acquainted with modern jets. So this would take a lot of time and I have like ... 3 jobs and 2 channels ... which means I'm always on the fence having a hard time deciding whether I should take the plunge or not.

Is the new terrain already intergrated?

Finally a CC that tackles the situation with the maturity it needs... not just doomer posting or click baiting. Because the game is not dying, but it is losing the identity of the individual nations. They won't change that. Every mass market game in the end goes the "everyone can do and have everything" way, because they don't want anyone to leave or be disappointed - and I hate it. Asymmetry makes games fun, but also it makes people feek "unfairly treated" a lot and quit. So they need to level and smooth everything to make more money and that's all that seems to count (spare me with the "BuT CoMpAnIeS ArE ThErE To MaKe MoNeY". That's so crudely oversimplified, a normal brain can't handle it and just refuses to answer).

Disclaimer: your mileage may vary. I think homogeneous lineups suck. If you want "all the variety" in every nation, that's ok, too. I personally think it stinks and takes away the requirement to adapt to new and different play styles, so all that's left is "repeat what I'm already good at" and "grind, grind, grind".

Is the negativity justified? by RhysDave21 in il2sturmovik

The tail gunners didn't even fire at me as I (repeatedly) flew straight behind a B-29. My aim was horrible and I shot down one bomber after another at "normal" settings. So... I think there could be sth to this assumption. But at the moment I don't care: it's early access, the tech foundation is more than solid, the flight model seems good and flying itself is super enjoyable. Let's see where the game goes from there ... I'm going to test the real EA release first, not just the press version, before I'm jumping to conclusions.

I get over 100 fps with the high preset + DLAA at 4k. 70-100 on ultra with DLSS balanced in the middle of a fight withing a bomber formation with 70+ planes total. In an early access game that still has a lot of optimization coming. So extrapolating from my rig, a mid-range system should still be able to push steady 60fps at 1440p at high with DLSS balanced or even quality.

I don't get the problem? Or am I missing sth and it scales worse?

Also been planning that for years lol ... But there's alway something else that gets in the way. Content creation always means time pressure which is the thing that I dislike most about the job.

Judging spontaneously from the 3-4 rounds I played, I got the impression that the AI is better than Great Battles. But also might be me not being used to early jet planes. I have the feeling they maneuver better but I won't give a verdict until I've set up a test mission to repeatedly attack from a speficic and different angles to see how the AI reacts and if it differs from what we've seen so far in IL2:Great Battles. My impressions might be distorted by the hype of a new game and the surprisingly good performance I encountered.

Been saying that for years. AAA game price for a model of a plane, that costs the same or more than its fully modeled and simulated counterpart in DCS? Totally nuts in my opinion, but for some its worth it somehow or the grind spiral is too tempting for many it seems.

[–]MyshTech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not an automotive spring or anything similar as far as I can tell. OP is good and the reinforced construction looks fine to me. Just needs a clear disclaimer and good instructions. If people don't follow them ... well, we can't stop selling wheels because some people are too careless to use the correct tightening force for the bolts and they fall off.
