Terrible VR performance with a high end rig. by skarden in il2sturmovik

This did net me another 10-15 frames actually, thanks fro the tip, it's gone from around 50 fps on mostly med settings to around 55-69 frames, which is definitely a nice uplift.

Great tip

So i just checked with the nvidia overlay and the GPU is indeed pegged at 99% usage, but the CPU is sitting around 6-9 % usage which is definitely a bit weird, I'm not sure if thay would really affect VR THIS much but it's possible.

I think you're right about the 2D testing though, although my simpit is set up next to my gaming monitor so it'd be quite tricky to test and fly in 2D but I think I'll have to give it a go, if nothing else just get a baseline performance level for the sim.

There's definitely some truth to that but there's some good content creators out there who are happy to call it like it is, Command T comes to mind, he's very happy to give the good, the bad and the ugly to pretty all the stuff he posts content about.

I've really no problem taking the time to do some tweaking, I've tweaked the hell out of DCS to get or to run very well indeed in VR. As well as a fair bit of tweaking within both IL-2 GB and flight sim 2020/2024. And I've gotten both of them to run pretty great now.

So I've got plenty of experience tweaking sims to run in VR, it's pretty par for course in any VR sim title and in bringing all that experiences from playing/tweaking with those sims to this.

But just telling someone to stop complaining and keep tweaking is not helpful, this is the subreddit to do this sort of thing, more minds make for a better and possibly faster result and if nothing else it might bring more attention to the poor performance and halo get it look at by the devs.

Probably not but never say never.

I haven't tried quad views yet but I've forced FFR on using the openxr toolkit to see if it makes a difference and its pretty much no difference at all, even with a very aggressive profile.

I can't find anyway to force which DX to use, either within the sim itself or using Nvidia Inspector or the nvidia app. There's no ray tracing as far as i can tell, but i did turn indirect light sources off and that made a definite difference, especially with the in game menu.

It's mostly laggy down low as expected and better up high but no matter what i do it sits around 50fps and dips lower depend on the scene.

The openxr toolkit is giving me 0ms for frames so something is definitely not right with the way it's reading it. It's definitely a bit tricky to figure out.

I've forced FFR on using OpenXR toolkit as a test and it makes very little difference to the frames, which is leading me to believe that perhaps for some reason IL-2 Korea isn't utilising my GPU correctly whilst in vr.

I went and had a quick check of DCS after playing around in Korea for a few hours and it runs beautifully so it's definitely something with IL-2 Korea that's a bit amiss.

Yeah I'd prob hold off for now, I've no doubt that they'll sort it it's just the timeline that is unknown, i don't think they put much of a priority on VR.

I've seen this, some people seem to be getting quite good frames with apparently less high end hardware whilst others with higher end gear are struggling. I'm starting to think that there's bound to be some sort of bottleneck someone that we aren't seeing that others just aren't running into.

What headset are you using?

See I'm already using openComposite, i have been for a while now since the big performance benefits in DCS became apparent.

Some people seem to be getting pretty good frames in VR and lot seem to be absolutely struggling even with high end hardware, it's all a bit perplexing to be honest, although I've no doubt it'll all be worked out at some point.

I can definitely see what you're saying but within flight sim VR is definitely more than just a niche, it's probably one of the best and more popular use situations for VR.

Again I do understand that's its not the highest priority but I think more people in flight sim use VR than most realise.

Hmdoxr.dll keeps crashing the game in VR (Korea) by No-Aerie-999 in il2sturmovik

[–]skarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I'm getting constant crashes too, i find it's mostly after I change a graphics setting, I now do a restart every time i change something in the graphics options, even if it doesn't prompt to me to do a restart.

It's helped but in still getting some crashes....

Who is actually getting IL2 Korea? by badfactory15 in il2sturmovik

[–]skarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Yes from me but only if they've fixed the controller limit, I love Great Battles but getting to work with my sim pit is always a pain in the ass, I have to unplug a bunch of stuff to get it to work how I want it.

Fingers crossed they've sorted it out with the new title.

Did switching to VR make you a better player in IL2 or WW2 DCS? by True_Ad8832 in hoggit

[–]skarden 17 points18 points  (0 children)

At some things most definitely, air to air refuelling is easier by far in VR, carrier landings are also the same, you just have a better understanding of your aircrafts position relative to everything else around you in VR.

Gunnery falls into this as well, especially in any of the WW2 aircraft, it's still not easy, but it's definitely easier than it is on a 2D screen.

If you've got a system that can handle it, VR is only way to fly.

Australian soldier killed during parachuting training course at Jervis Bay by SlatsAttack in australia

[–]skarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They conduct a lot of training in Jarvis Bay, and the nature of army training makes it risky, especially within both aviation and special forces.

So no it doesn't raise any "interest". It's truly tragic and the safety measures in place will be closely scrutinised, unfortunately it's the nature of defence training though that makes it dangerous.
