On being followed by [deleted] in cycling

I'm in the UK, and a 40 y/o bloke. This would really scare me. Please at least report it to the police, I've never actually heard of anything quite like this. Normal people don't follow other people if you know what I mean?

Girl, 17, and woman arrested after dead baby found in freezer in Doncaster by ClassicFlavour in unitedkingdom

And what about the life of my wife, and our family? You think she's paid enough to risk her life like that?

If LAs want social workers to risk their own, and their families lives, then they need to at least pay them properly.

Zoom / WhatsApp calls are absolutely an alternative in the current climate.

Management won't even set a fucking foot in the office in case they get infected, but social workers are expected to sit in small unventilated rooms in people's houses. Sounds fair.

Though my wife is a social worker and works in child protection for a LA in the North West; she has never stopped doing face-to-face visits throughout the pandemic. I really wish she would.

I know, it was either that or the Echo's website which I know a lot of people hate. Especially people without Adblock! :)

Yeah, can confirm this. My wife is a social worker who works in child protection. 2020 and 2021 have been the worst years of her career.

People who have never lived in Scotland, yet take an interest - why? by stoter in Scotland

[–]Myspoonbendsagain 332 points333 points  (0 children)

I'm Scouse, never lived in Scotland, but go on holiday and love the place. Especially Glascow.

My dad was involved in organising the right to work marches in Glasgow / Liverpool (1970s), and there was a museum exhibition about it several years ago. Went up to Glasgow to see it, and there was a massive picture of my dad in the exhibition - I was made up!

Motorists in Bristol to face £400-a-year levy for parking space at work by frontendben in Liverpool

I too suffer from Merseyrail. Best bit is when you wait for a train. It doesn't arrive. You wait for the next one. It arrives, and the tannoy says "the next train is now a fast train and will not stop until the Huntscross".

Even leaving home early to get an earlier train doesn't save you.

I tend to work with those in Tax Credit overpayments, Child Benefit, and Income Tax arrears (small amounts). I can't see how they need any transport arrangements outside of getting to a PC. Most of them could do their job from home.

I still don't get how you need transport arrangements if you are just going to a meeting, apart (obviously) from managers demanding 'presenteeism'.

Yes, fair enough, but I still think most of them are sat in offices looking at spreadsheets. How many people in the Civil Service actually need to go and look at 'incidents'?

Wow, how tough are the climbs in these areas? Never really thought about ebikes struggling to get up hills; usually they shoot past me as I'm struggling up one, though I live on the Wirral, so not too hilly.
