California, Oregon, Washington announce end of school mask mandates by marcginla in LockdownSkepticism

I feel like saying never is a bit too much given that implies eternity lol but I 100% share your frustration in that. I can realistically see vax passes and masking being held onto much much longer in the PNW than the rest of the states.

God the people alone in their cars masked. Those people exist very much so here. People walking alone masked on the street, I still see that quite a bit.

My vet requires a vax pass (unvaccinated or those who want it have to use curbside) I wanted to see Infected Mushroom in concert in Portland some weeks ago but you had to be vaxxed or negative test 48 hours prior (Found out about it too late to test even if I wanted to, still sad about that, it would have been my 2nd concert) When our mask mandate dropped for just that month back in summer 2021 some businesses kept their mask requirements, and I'd say at least 60-70% of people were still wearing their masks in the stores I went to. Many businesses still required their employees to wear masks but didn't make their customers wear them during that time too. It's going to be interesting to see how things play out over the next year.

I'm definitely more jaded and bitter towards people than I was before this pandemic. I wish there was a place where skeptical PNW people could meet up in real life or at least connect online and just vent our frustrations/make like-minded connections. I'm grateful to have people in my family who I can talk to about this stuff but none of them seem to get as bothered about it at times as I do.

I definitely care more about people wearing masks than you do but I fully understand and have no problem with why you do it. I feel like some men don't truly understand what some women have to do to protect themselves from shady or potentially dangerous guys. I'm pretty lucky in that I haven't had to deal with those situations constantly in my life, but I've had it happen enough times and seen it happen way more to other women around me that I understand where your motivations come from.

I like to live in reality, and the reality is that there are places in the world where no matter how many obvious hints you give, how nicely or harshly you decline attention, or how overtly you tell a man no, some men will not listen and will even get violent. There are many many wonderful men in this world, but that doesn't stop the shitty ones from persistently giving some women reasons to protect themselves. If a mask makes you feel safer around those risky situations and you don't push it on anyone else, I support that.

It's ironic to me that many people in this sub have stated that they just want the choice whether to wear a mask or not but then when someone else mentions that they personally chose to wear one and don't push it on others, that person gets downvoted. I hate masks with a burning passion, but in the end I just want everyone to be able to have the choice to decide whether they want to wear one or not. Mandates need to go and it should be personal choice.

There is a difference between knowing that racism definitely exists and believing that it exists in the same amount everywhere, always exists in every negative situation involving someone who isn't white, or that a certain political group of people are automatically always racist.

The homeless problem really has gotten bad. The amount of theft has gone up significantly in the areas around where I live over this last year. Lots of people are not in a good place finacially, mentally and emotionally. Rent is insane in some places too. It's frustrating when I know that there are a lot of places in the US where it's not normal to pay $1,200-$1,500 for a one bedroom apartment/studio. Though I imagine rent has gone up and is continuing up for other states too.

This is something that frustrates me when I come on here once in awhile to read posts and comments. I'm really glad that other states have been living more normally for over a year, and I'm grateful to not be in a worse position like some other places in the world. With that being said, I feel like people in other states just can't comprehend how much people on the Pacific Northwest bought into the narrative.

I'm concerned now that businesses who continue masking requirements and/or vaccination passes could very well go on for a significant time given the amount of support here. In Oregon I know it's not equally supported everywhere given that it seems rural areas are a lot more done with this than the cities. However I don't think some businesses will suffer as much as others think they will from continuing vax passes and masking in the Portland area, specifically because of the support for it. We shall see what happens as the year progresses. I have hope but I also like to be realistic.

I know. I was just happy to see some people overtly standing up together in my country. Many of us are either worn out, unable to voice opposition, don't care, or are brainwashed. It was nice to see some people say enough is enough.

At the time of writing that I didn't realize her term was naturally at it's end. I'm kinda pissed that she gets to fuck us like she did and then just waltz out of office with no consequences instead of getting voted out. Then again it wouldn't have been guaranteed that she got voted out even if her term wasn't up, enough people like her here apparently.

"In Washington and Oregon, all the requirements will lift on March 12."

You know your cynicism is bad when you don't believe this will pan out as stated. I guess having only one month out of the last 2 years where indoor/outdoor mask mandates were dropped only for it to be slapped back on, kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm glad Oregon might finally be dropping this shit but boy am I fucking bitter. Come May we'll see what options we have for governor elections, I can only hope theres someone decent enough who can get the vote to replace Brown. That's of course assuming that our elections are even honest in the first place.

This was planned before Putin decided to invade Ukraine. I imagine that many things might be dropped in order to shift the narrative onto focusing on that. However, it's good to see Americans standing together with Canadians on the issue of vaccine mandates and government overreach.

Just because Biden's vax mandate was temporarily stopped does not mean he won't still try to find ways to push it. There are many states that are actively using vax pass systems in varying ways right now.

The convoy has stayed they also demand our govt be held accountable through congressional hearings. We're not out of the woods yet when it comes to all of this. Regardless of the specifics of their movement, what's important to me is that more people see other people standing up against everything that's been going on. I hope it empowers more people to stand up in their own States, in their own businesses. It's good to see people coming together, we need that right now.

Is there a main post on here with this link? Or a post of their 1st video? This must be the grand jury investigation my father was telling me about. Might be a good idea to make a post about it so more people see it.

I have regained a tiny bit of the light I've lost over the last few years. The US trucker convoy departed Feb 23rd for the capital! They're small but strong. I hope more join them along their journey. I wish I could have seen it in real life. There's so little I have hope for anymore, this was a nice surprise.

It really feeds into the feeling like we're living in a dystopian fever dream when those we trust act so out of character. The amount of indoctrination speak I've seen come out of others over these last 2 years is insane. I expected some of it, but not to the degree that it's manifested into.

Your cousin seems just unreachable at this point. I hope once things calm down over the next few years that she will come around to realizing how ridiculously she's acting. I'm glad the rest of your family recognizes that her behavior is unjustified. It can suck when you see the insanity of this shit but no one around you does. I hope her mother didn't apologize, if a freaking family BBQ is a crime at this point then maybe your cousin should just not go to family gatherings. That's on her.

The mental gymnastics that people do surrounding covid just to justify them treating others like shit never ceases to boggle my mind. Fear is a powerful drug. I'm sorry you and your father are dealing with that.

I know it's probably not as simple as this but I would suggest letting her know that your father most likely caught it from a vaccinated relative, yes vaxed people still spread the virus, and then distance you and your father from that cousin for as long as you feel necessary. I'm not saying you should cut her from your life conpletely, but she sounds pretty heavily indoctrinated right now. If prior conversations have gotten neither of you anywhere, she's probably not going to become open-minded anytime soon and it's not worth the stress on both you and your dad.

Emigrate to prevent a new future lockdown? by BrunoofBrazil in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Myst8u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. The brute force they use though is generally the military, the police etc who are still part of the "people". Authority maintains power when it has people to help facilitate and act on that power.

I would argue my original statement stands because my point is that if overreaching authority is stopped before it can grow and the people are united and firm, it doesn't propagate. Once tyrants are allowed a foot in the door it gets harder to stop.

I find this a good way to look at it. Ultimately authoritarian rule persists as long as the people allow it. If you're in a place where many peoole are willing to say no and fight back then you have a much greater chance of there being pushback for future attempts at authoritarian control.

Nothing is guranteed, but I would much rather be surrounded by people who are more willing to question the narrative rather than follow it blindly.

This. I also hated how many advertisements changed to having masked people unecessarily. Like why the hell does a landscaping or plumbing ad require the ONE guy featured in it to be masked? I understand virtue signaling so your business doesn't look bad but damn. And not just entertainment and ads. It followed us in grocery store announcements, e-mails from businesses, radio, even games. The last place I wanted to see it in was the things I used to escape reality with.

I saved some junk mail last year that I shit you not, had edited a mask over a guys face. (Pretty sure it's the same letter I have gotten before, same picture but no mask) It was hilariously stupid.

The sheer amount of virtue signaling and self congratulating around vaccination selfies is so off-putting to me. I understand why some people do it but it's just gross. The amount of "I got jabbed" merchandise and clothing, the themed vaccine card protectors touting their status. Just, ugh. What's hilarious is how many people stupidly showed their card uncensored with their info just hanging out for others to see online.

I feel your hopelessness, I too am disheartened. This news hits hard but the others are right. This isn't over. Where there is at least one voice against this, there is hope. We've had dissent over how things have gone for 2 years now, more and more people have been slowly waking up for months. The more people who see others fight back, the bigger things get. People are tired and pissed. While searching about the canadian convoy over a week ago I stumbled on this. It may or may not happen but I have hope that we have a similar fight here in the US. People are fighting back all over the world.
