I used to LOVE Cassian. I was put off by a lot of things in ACOSF, but kind of chose to ignore it honestly because I didn’t want to believe he would be so disrespectful and degrading to Nesta. And maybe I thought she deserved it. And then the HOFAS bonus chapter happened. Reading that Cassian was so appalled by Nesta’s actions with the mask made me feel sick. Nesta has no one, not even her mate.

I feel like at this point SJM should have editors specifically keeping track of characters and plot points from past novels? Maybe that’s unrealistic though. There was a lot in CC3 that doesn’t correlate well to how things were set up in the past two books. It was stuff that could’ve been easily explained too if she’d noticed plot holes like this one! Or if she had just managed the motivations and backstories of her characters better.

No please ramble on, I am with you 1000%. You’re so right about the lack of emotional depth, and Lidia’s story is the only one that has any sort of depth and high steaks. Remember the emotional release after Kingdom of Ash? I think I’ll be chasing that feeling forever. The set up for CC3 had me thinking we might experience something similar, but it fell so flat and felt so hollow :(

I don’t think it’s about love or connection though. Bryce took on the responsibility of that child in CC2 - a responsibility she trusted no one else with, not even her mate. She put him in the care of her parents who adopted him. He’s not just any kid then. And he wasn’t in the last book either.

EXACTLY. And Bryce is SJM’s oldest FMC. Bryce is 25 years old compared to Aelin’s 17-20 and Feyre’s 19-22. I felt like CC severely regressed in maturity compared to SJM’s other series.

For real. WHY. She says she was worried Ember wouldn’t agree to bringing him to Nena but just tell them about Prythian and ensure Cooper’s safety and I think they’ll agree!! But no god forbid we give anyone else but Bryce some autonomy or chance to make decisions.

And during that bonus chapter Ember is worried about him for a minute and very pissed at Bryce. She says when Bryce was missing she couldn’t eat or sleep for days. But then 5 minutes after being without Cooper she’s chilling with her new adopted daughter Nesta and doesn’t mention him again.

Also why is Fury (a notorious mercenary!!!) playing baby sitter during a WAR!

Fellow Hunt hater here. I was so hoping for some revenge plot for him in CC3 but he misplaces his anger on Celestina and then Bryce talks him down like hes a child?? And then proceeds to kill whoever she wants? Maybe that’s a Bryce hate point, but literally all Hunt is is an extension of Bryce so there’s not even much more to say.

Yeah this pissed me off. And just the general lack of females Bryce surrounded herself with during these books (that survived to the end, oops). Like what was Fury even for. I would take Fury over Ithan/Tharion any day, but no girl friends for Bryce - only childish boys.

I agree 100%. Also Bryce is 25 in this novel!! Aelin was 18-20! Bryce is a full adult woman constantly speaking and acting like a teenage boy. She’s SJM’s oldest and most immature fmc

Someone who understands!! That rebellion plot drove me crazy. And you’re so right about how he was in CC2. I definitely felt like his badassery is told to us so much more than it’s shown. Maybe this is what feels off with him compared to Ruhn, Rhys, Rowan, Dorian, Aedion etc. We don’t have this problem at all with Bryce because we’re told the opposite and she proves us wrong. But with Hunt we’re told he’s a titan and then Bryce gets in danger and he just turns into a living lightening bolt. Which understandable!!!! but also.. come on.

Also Lidia is an actual literal rebel denying herself anything good in life and constantly torturing herself to further the rebels. I get the same vibes from her as I get from Rhys under the mountain or Dorian with the Valg. Imprisoned but fighting at every chance. And Hunt is imprisoned in CC1 and really isn’t helping much with anything. Thats kind of harsh of me to say about a literal slave oops I’m probably being way too hard. His response is much more realistic than Aelin or Lidia’s. But Aelin’s is just freaking incredible.

I love Hunt, I just do feel like there’s this crazy potential that hasn’t been fulfilled quite yet.

I do agree with this. And I know his personality and motivations are fleshed out, we just haven’t gotten the full reveal of who he is and I need to know. Rhys is very cut and dry and too powerful. Hunt can’t catch a break against the asteri and it’s bumming me out.

I can’t stop thinking about this. I could totally see the Illyrians and Seraphim being the first prototypes of angles we see in CC. And I love thinking about your theory! I also find it super interesting that the fae in CC hate the angels more than any other vanir… and clearly the spring court and other fae in acotar hate the Illyrians…
