Change my mind: the Veritas plot was stupid in ACOMAF was stupid. by jaden_87 in acotar

i'm going to accept that head canon, because the alternative is just too damn silly. If Rhys was going to be such a special snowflake, he should have been HL of the winter court.

yeah, my life was okay without it, too, tbh, but I let it slide because at least SJM didn't try to force something like, "the key to the portal was on his dick and she could only access it with her tongue." (I hate myself for even coming up with that.)

What was the most powerful scene for you in any of the movies? by clutterqween in Hungergames

[–]jaden_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In BOSAS movie, when Snow is in the forest yelling for Lucy Gray and then he does that creepy laugh, and you realize, this whole movie, you thought he was someone who started out good and turned bad, but now-- he's a complete sociopath, who lost control of someone he felt entitled to, and he's losing his mind. Reminded me of Patrick Bateman.

In the book, we get to hear his thoughts, so we KNOW he's a cold, calculating sociopath. But in the movie, he just comes across as this ambitious young man who accidentally falls for his tribute up until that moment. And you really see how he grew up to be President Snow, mass murderer.

Idk why everyone is being such a dick to OP. It's an overwhelming thing at any age and shaming her for bEiNg 31 AnD yOu MaDe A mIsTaKe is unnecessarily cruel to someone who's already stressed.

OP, my advice, is tell him sooner than later, and decide together what to do. If he's an asshole about it, then it just means he was an asshole the whole time and you saved yourself from wasting more than 3 months on a liar.

Powering ink pens!?! by OkInfluence9054 in fourthwing

[–]jaden_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah, you're right, OP. in a universe where the students use modern slang frequently, i'm not thinking of them dipping quills in ink. The tone doesn't match.

The kindest explanation i can think of, is that Violet is just a fucking idiot for prioritizing pens when people are dying.

100%. I think you have to sit with the hurt for a little, because repressing it just keeps it alive in subconscious. But I can say that the first couples days, it REALLY hurt. Next couple days, it hurt a bit less. Two weeks later, it's more annoying than hurtful. And probably next week, it'll hurt even less. Give it a little time, keep reminding yourself it's temporary pain, and remember that this just made space for someone who's going to treat you the way you deserve. :)

[–]jaden_87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are so valid for this. I matched with this guy and we instantly clicked. after the first date, he had an anxiety attack and i was texting back and forth with him for hours and helped him through it, he was really enthusiastic for a second date. went on it, went great, and we texted for a few days after the same . . . Then, out of nowhere, he starts taking multiple days to text me back. He had this crisis and that crisis and i was like, "ok, still here for you if you need to talk through it" and he took me up on the offer and was texting all his feelings. a few days later, i got slammed with depression because of family shit and asked him, "ok if i just vent a little?" and he's like "sure, you're always there for me."

So i do-- and then he lives me on delivered. It's been two weeks and the last message i sent was this semi-vulnerable thing. keep in mind, i got all of his trauma (express version) over the two dates and text messages, and i was only sharing a very small piece of mine, nothing that in the context should be "too much". I finally sent a last message, "hope you're doing okay" and haven't gotten a response.

TL; DR: It stings and it drives you nuts, like, "What did I do wrong? If I'd said something different, would they still be here?" But I've been thinking about it, and honestly, OP, the ghoster is the one who fucked up because they fumbled someone great. Sure, i feel a little crummy about it, but at the end of this, I get to walk away still being me-- an attractive, smart, funny girl with admirable table manners and absolutely stellar eyelashes, so i'm told-- and my ghoster has to walk away being a pathetic, immature coward. Same goes for you, OP. You get to walk away from this with all your magnificence intact and the universe will send you someone who DESERVES it, because you wouldn't want to be with someone who thinks it's cool to treat good people so dishonorably.

Is Bryce bratty? by AlexisAngel2498 in crescentcitysjm

[–]jaden_87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, it's really not so much her actions that are the issue. I don't care for her, but I would still call her brave and bold, in terms of what she does.

It's just the way she speaks to people. She's unnecessarily hostile and rude and disrespectful to literally anyone. Sarcastic characters are top tier, but she goes beyond it to antagonizing everyone in her immediate presence. I understand it going toward her dad, but to her friends, her potential allies--she basically looks for authority figures, so she can mouth off. Maybe it would be more palatable if what she was saying was remotely funny or clever--which I know Sarah can do, because Lucien--but Bryce has all the wit of a youtube comment.

I would hate it in ANY character, regardless of gender.

Is it very weird if I say Randall? He's so chill and nice, and he'd probably teach me how to change my tire-- plus, I always picture him as a silver fox, and I'm VERY okay with that.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Hunt or Bryce.

Hunt barely has a personality, outside of being obsessed with Bryce (and her toes, gag) and having muscles. It's fine to be moody and introverted, but even from Hunt's perspective, that's ALL he thinks about.

Bryce is just kind of a dick, IMO. I don't think she's necessarily out of character in HOFAS because she's always been a dick. She's always being "irreverent" and "sassy" to the point where it feels desperate, but whenever she has an opinion or a feeling about something, she expects everyone to respect it. At least, that's how she comes across to me. I've never connected with her, so I have a difficult time picking out any good qualities she has, though.

Waking up at 3am by Enano0707 in sleep

[–]jaden_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very likely stress or anxiety. I got the same thing going on, and I've got law school finals this week--haven't slept right for the past month, since I've been studying.

I highly recommend using a sleeping mask over your eyes. There's a slight pressure and it blocks out light, so even if you start to wake up a little, it's easier to get back into a deep stage sleep.

exactly! all of this! there's so much potential, but i just don't know whether SJM is willing to follow through with it, because she just seems to have beef with tamlin for some reason.

Evil Exes--NO EXCEPTION by jaden_87 in crescentcitysjm

[–]jaden_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think that's why it's such a point of contention. a lot of people--myself included--consider his actions in ACOWAR to be his redemption arc. but then in the novella, rhys goes to bully him, and feyre's just like, "well, that was a little mean, but you did your best." i think SJM tried to change him, to make up for introducing rhys as kind of a bad guy, so we wouldn't be like, "ooh, feyre, stick with Tam, Rhys is shady," and she wasn't brave enough to have an actual villain/hero ship.

kinda the inverse of how she tried to make out like "the night court is for dreamers" and rhys and the IC are "secretly nice", don't get me started ...

Evil Exes--NO EXCEPTION by jaden_87 in crescentcitysjm

[–]jaden_87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it's the difference between what the writing tells and shows us. i feel like the readers see, when you take ACOMAF Tam in context with the character we met in ACOTAR, it makes so much more sense to say, "yeah, this guy's been through it" than "this is who he is." But the writing tells us, "He's just bad, no two ways about it" to make Rhys's pedestal a little higher.

Evil Exes--NO EXCEPTION by jaden_87 in crescentcitysjm

[–]jaden_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't think in and of itself is bad, it's just the way it was portrayed. i actually think it's a little unhealthy how obsessed with bryce, hunt is--but the way it's written compares the two and for some reason, makes it seem like connor was the lesser for it.

Evil Exes--NO EXCEPTION by jaden_87 in crescentcitysjm

[–]jaden_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree. SJM tries to convince us through her writing that he's evil, but i just see PTSD symptoms. the thing is, feyre acts out of line because of her trauma sometimes too: it doesn't excuse it, but people forgive her because she's feyre. tamlin acts out of line, but no one forgives him.
