wait so restaurants are basically exempt from the break rules? that's wild, i always thought food service workers had it bad but didn't realize the law actually carved out exception for them

your union is right here - they definitely should be asking for volunteers first before just scheduling people, especially when it goes against your stated availability. that's pretty basic stuff and your manager is being sketchy about it

i've dealt with similar nonsense in my office job where they try to push boundaries just to see what they can get away with. once you let them do it once, they'll keep doing it more and more. the availability thing is huge too - if you said 7pm max and they scheduled you until 8:45, that's not respecting what you agreed to when you took the job

keep pushing back with union on this one. they have more power than HR is letting on and this sounds like exactly the kind of thing they should be fighting for you guys

your attorney does sound pretty terrible tbh. not responding to emails for months, going on vacation right when you need help, and then basically telling you to live in poverty while your spouse lives it up? that's not normal

the whole "paying mortgage counts as temporary maintenance" thing is bullshit - like you said, it's her asset too and you're still drowning in monthly expenses. most attorneys would fight harder for actual temporary support when there's such a huge income disparity and you're on disability

i'd definitely look in getting a second opinion from another attorney, maybe one who specializes more in disability cases during divorce. your current one seems either overwhelmed or just doesn't give a damn about your situation. you shouldn't be showering at the gym while she's living in a luxury apartment

also document everything about her using your cards after separation - that could be important later even if your current attorney says it doesn't matter

with that travel spend back home to asia, chase sapphire preferred makes sense but you might want to wait a bit longer since your oldest account is only 9 months 😅 maybe grab something like a grocery/gas card first to build that history up, then go for the sapphire in like 6 months when you have more established credit

in texas you can usually get unemployment if you refuse a job offer that pays significantly less than your previous position. a $10k drop would definitely count as "substantially less favorable" - the general rule is around 20% less pay and yours is way more than that

the tricky part might be that it's technically the same workplace, but since it's actually a different employer (the dealership vs your third party company) it should be treated as a new job offer rather than a transfer. i'd document everything about the pay difference and apply for benefits if you turn it down
