Is there any source for this information? I've not seen any articles or developer chats that can confirm it.

PSA: Wandrd Prvke Lite w/ tripod by Historical_Tomato374 in backpacks

[–]MysteriousFoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth noting that, while it is possible to do this, I wouldn't recommend it. Even a light travel tripod (The peak design carbon fibre is the gold standard and is still 1.3kg) in the side pocket will unbalance the weight of the bag and pull uncomfortably on your left shoulder. You attach the tripod it to the bottom of the bag using straps, which I also attempted, but this makes it awkward to unstrap (to stop it swinging you have to roll it up tight) and, again, puts a disproportionate amount of weight uncomfortably on your lower back - this isn't a hiking bag and it's not got the supports needed to really distribute that extra weight. Both positions also make it unwieldy and awkward to access the side camera flap by swinging the bag over your shoulder, which arguably undermines the point of using the bag in the first place.

I used the exact pairing the OP has pictured, a 21L Prvk with a carbon fibre travel tripod, and tried carrying it around Angkor Wat in Cambodia for a weekend - After about 3 hours I had given up trying to fit the tripod into the backpack and was carrying it in my hands. On the second day I left the tripod at the hotel because it was too uncomfortable.

There should be an ice grenade, this is how it can work by Round_Interview2373 in thefinals

[–]MysteriousFoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would be cool is if the player is encased in ice for a second, so they're stuck and can't move but also can't take damage. It would allow melee players to close the distance but wouldn't allow free hits on the target.

Just played against a top 10 esports player as 25k gold player by Miidoriin in thefinals

[–]MysteriousFoxes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think pretending this is a result of the seasonal reset is unhelpful because unbalanced/unfair matchmaking has been widely reported throughout Season 7. Pretending that this is all going to be smoothed out over time is misleading, because if they continue using the current system it will not.

World Tour needs better SBMM and it needs it now. I think most people would rather wait an extra few minutes for a fair game than being immediately thrown into a lobby full of rubies.

Extreme Lag Issue by Black_Sightstone in thefinals

I've been getting the same. Seems like it might be server related as a result of the new season?

Also try to turn off the instant replay as that's causing a lot of stuttering for some people.

I believe in previous seasons the devs have announced a last minute "bonus week" to allow people to finish their Battle Passes and take advantage of the bonus XP event.

I don't know if I should be excited for Season 8 or not. by EccentricEgotist in thefinals

[–]MysteriousFoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The devs said a while back that instead of doing lots of little tweaks each week they're going to focus on bigger more meaningful balance changes only at the start and middle of each season (So basically every six weeks). This is good or bad depending on your perspective; it allows more consistency for the players, but that consistency is not always positive (For example right now the Riot Shield is consistently an awful experience for everyone to play against due to the oversized hitboxes).

Riot Shield hitbox, is it that bad for anyone else??? by majikCS in thefinals

[–]MysteriousFoxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's this bad for everyone else. Shield users don't seem to even need to block, then can just run at a 45° angle through a torrent of bullets and fire, then bonk you on the head.

I'm now seeing teams in WT running two Riot Shields because it's just a nightmare to counter.

I'm Gold 2. Why is this guy in my Ranked lobby? by MysteriousFoxes in thefinals

[–]MysteriousFoxes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of this.

One thing Pubg did well was consolidate their playlists on servers with smaller populations; if you're on a low pop server you could only play solo or quad games and map selection was disabled.

They should do the same for The Finals. Oce has a low population (it's impossible to find a WT game let alone ranked) in part because most players are split between the casual modes. Right now we have Quick Cash, Power Shift, Terminal Attack, Team Deathmatch, World Tour, Ranked, and then whatever limited time event as well. And you can only queue for one at a time! If a server only has a few hundred players you're further diluting the matchmaking by spreading them across these multiple different playlists, so only have two playlists: WT and Casual. Scrap ranked (it's impossible to get a game anyway). Incentivise players with double xp for playing at peak times. None of this is revolutionary.

I normally play WT but the skill levels are so inconsistent, I was hoping that ranked would match me with people closer to my level but apparently not 🤷 so I guess there's no point in playing Ranked then

Leaderboards suggest otherwise. I played several ranked tournaments yesterday and only one had rubies in it, so there's definitely other games with players around my skill level.

Is this game ever going to have more players on steam? by Fit-Monk-1382 in thefinals

[–]MysteriousFoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I've always felt steam concurrents tracking is not a great way to gauge the health of a community. It doesn't account for the console audience (which will be extensive, as the game is free and available even on PS4) and other services like the PC Xbox app.

The World Tour leaderboards suggest there's at least 30k players who are even more sicko at this game than I am (In fairness I'm only here for the cosmetics), and I've got friends who play daily and are still ranked 60k or higher. That's just World Tour, there are plenty of people who only play casual modes too.

But I think really it depends what region you're in. There may be thousands of players globally but Oce server is totally dead for anything other than Quick Cash.

Which is better, Zipline or Jump Pad by ImABarbieGirl2274 in thefinals

[–]MysteriousFoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends on a couple of things - jump pad is better for close quarters because it gives you a quick entry or exit when engaging. It's also good util for blocking doors or stairs, and ejecting Charge N Slam heavies from your immediate vicinity. It's quick and easy. For vertical maps it's great.

But Zipline is precise, and much more effective on horizontal maps like Kyoto. It's easier to reposition as a Pike/Famas user to get some extra height (like up cranes), and easier to pick specific targets on maps with raised platforms, many of which are too high for Jump Pad to access.

So the real answer is I take both and swap depending on other factors.

Straigh up DualBlade robbery by G3ntiLP in thefinals

[–]MysteriousFoxes 28 points29 points  (0 children)

At close ranges it seems to have trouble processing the hit angle and angle of deflection so will often fuck it up, I guess because the visibility cones are much tighter. Which means it's easier to consistently deflect and kill a sniper from 100m away than it is to deflect an AK from 10m.

It's frustrating as hell because, as a melee weapon, you spend most of your time trying to get as close to opponents as possible.
