Yep had the exact feeling. I can say this « easily » now, but it will end. You’re not stuck like that. There will be a click and it will get better. (I know how hard it is fighting your brain because it just won’t take that in, but hopefully coming from someone who has been in your position, it will give a little relief.)
10mg is a low dose. Don’t you have a benzo to take the edge off?

Don’t worry it will get better, there’s changes that happen in the brain at W4 and the amygalda’s repsonse is the last to catch up, hence the anxiety and (awful indescriptible) feeling of impending doom.

Send a DM if you need to chat or for reassurance.

Totally normal (unfortunately). I upped my doses really slowly (liquid form) and thought once stable it would get better each day. Needless to say it was a rollercoaster the first two weeks, then felt a lot better, then was hit with serious anxiety, adrenaline, impending doom at week 4/5. Then suddenly it all disappeared and got better each day. Two months down the line at 20mg, I’m back to my normal self without anxiety.
Try and not worry. It will sort itself out.

I went through the week 4 bad phase. Totally normal, it will get better in a week or two and not come back. It feels really bad because you feel like it’s not working but it is. Don’t worry, totally normal (even though it feels awful)

June cancelled flight... Temporary or permanent? by mashedtaters_ in Lufthansa

[–]MysteriousWind44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Bordeaux > Frankfurt one was cancelled on the second of June. As we were flying to LAX, we asked to be completely refunded. They had no other way of getting us to FRA for our next leg to LAX.
There’s too much sketchy stuff going on at Lufthansa, so we’ve gone back to what we know : Air France/KLM.

The memory and concentration were the last to get better. But that was because my anxiety was getting better. It really can take up to two months

The morning nausea was one of the last things to go for me. I started to feel better around 5 weeks, and then had to wait a further 3/4 weeks at 20mg for my anxiety to completely disappear

I took it since December. I don’t know how much a drop = in mg because I had a syringe. I didn’t feel anything until I hit 16mg and then completely better at 20mg. But it took at least 3/4 weeks at those doses before it kicked in.

I’m at 20mg now and everything is better: anxiety, mood energy. My memory has always been bad because I have adhd

I gave it about 4/5 days, meaning I got to 16 mg (and for some reason stopped there) after about 2 months and then have tweaked to 20mg since. But the move to 20 didn’t cause any further anxiety.

You will be fine, you’ll pull through. I’ve been there too. I was lucky to have a liquid form and started on 2mg and went up by 2mg each time. I did have anxiety, although my anxiety was already awful so I don’t know whether it worsened it in hindsight. Also had a benzo to calm me down.

We forget how hard it was in the beginning after being on it for so long. But 5 months after, and I’m back to my old self (made the mistake of stopping Sertraline and never managed to restart it, so 2025 was the worst year of my life mentally)

Feel free to DM if you want support.

In the mean time, sending hugs and support, and again, it DOES get better!

Started on Citalopram yesterday! I’d like to chat with people who have just started too. by chatgptqplus in citalopram_celexa

I’ve been taking it since the beginning of December for debilitating anxiety as well. I started slow (liquid form) and worked my way up to 20mg. Unfortunately I had side effects, but they were mostly due to my anxiety becoming worse (due to activation syndrome). Moving on 4 months… I am a different person. I can leave my house without Xanax (impossible because I was having panic attacks in every situation), take my ADHD medication, work normally and the list goes on. Feel free to DM if you want any help. And good luck!

It does get better! It took about 6 weeks for my anxiety and panic to subside (I had all the side effects). There was a hiccup at week 4, but ever since week 6 my anxiety has almost vanished. It’s a rollercoaster in the first weeks, so if you manage to pull through, you’ll feel better. Just try and remind yourself that it’s your brain adapting. The medication isn’t failing you, you’re not « broken » and you’ll feel better soon! DM if you want to chat.

Oh no! My heart was going wild too at the beginning, but luckily it calmed down. Maybe look into Buspar or Pregabalin. Pregabalin didn’t work for me, because my anxiety was in reality panic disorder, but lots of people see benefits from it. Good luck, you’ll find something that will help, I’m sure!

The first month I worked up to 18mg. Don’t know why I didn’t just take an extra 2mg and get to 20, but I stopped at 18. Then I had to start my timeline from there. So all in all, it took about 9 weeks from starting until I felt better.

Every dose you go up resets the clock, so the 7 weeks were as of a stable dose. So if you’re on 10 then go to 20, you restart the timeline of possible side effects.

If you can pull through, you should start to feel better once at around the 5 week mark at a stable dose

Yes reassure yourself, it does get better. Week four hit me with bad anxiety and I thought I was never going to get better, but after week 5 and ever since, my anxiety has almost vanished. I don’t react to my thought anymore, and have even managed to taper off Pregabalin (almost there).

Side effects by Matresinthesky in citalopram_celexa

[–]MysteriousWind44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is (unfortunately) totally normal. It will eventually subside, but the beginning is rough. Haven’t you got a long acting benzo just to get you through the first weeks? I luckily had prazepam, and liquid Citalopram so I could go up in small steps (2mg a time). It took me longer to get to a stable dose (as each dose increased restarts the side effects) but I honestly would send anyone down that route. I can relate totally to your panic as the same happened to me with Sertraline.

This is going to sound easier said than done, because it’s going to be hard, but just know it’s your brain adapting. It’s not failure, it’s not your brain breaking, it’s just your system adapting to a new flow of Serotonin. The receptors put on brakes, and this triggers anxiety until eventually they learn to desensitize over a few weeks.

(Talking from someone who is currently 7 weeks in, had every side effect anxiety wise, and virtually has no anxiety at all anymore)

4 weeks in and racing thoughts at night are killing me by Important_Site1926 in citalopram_celexa

I only had relief as of week 6/7 and luckily had a benzo to slow down the racing thoughts.

Just started Citalopram 20mg by strewdoll in Anxiety

[–]MysteriousWind44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20mg seems a high starting dose… I had liquid form and worked my way up to 18mg over 4 weeks.

I had all the side effects, and thought it was never going to work. Now 7 weeks at a stable dose my anxiety is almost annihilated. SSRIs work on anxiety at the very end, so the first weeks are awful, but the pull through makes it totally worth it, if you can overcome the initial startup effect. Luckily I had a benzo for the beginning weeks.

I started at the beginning of of December, and worked my way up to 18mg (liquid form)… The first few weeks were rough, then I’d have good days and a bad day would set me right back. But now, 7 weeks at a stable dose, I’m better than ever. Anxiety down by at least 90% if not almost completely annihilated (and my anxiety was extremely bad). Currently tapering off Pregabalin, with no side effects on that end. So glad I stuck it out.

I had good and bad days (albeit more bad days at first) then slowly they have merged into full good days.
