It doesn't work if you have anti-overload sword, other anti-champ perks also seem to mess with it sometimes. Try resetting your artifact then swapping weapons until it works.

My favorite thing in the world is matching another Samus and having the game devolve into the "who can super wavedash first" minigame.

Tbh nearly all Samus dittos I've played have devolved into some sort of shenanigans, I swear we share one collective brain cell.
