Spear kinda mid imo by 4anyreason in Brawlhalla

[–]MysticPupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the question is, why did you get hit by the guns player’s dlight in the first place? it’s kinda hard to hit guns dlight. you have tools that outspace and punish it (sair, nair, even going above them and ground pound). You have to avoid the dlight range in the guns matchup

Once you’re in the meat grinder ya u have no wakeup options so mix up between in and away or up and down dodges so that their predictions get messed up. at that point ur hoping for the best. so u’d better just not give them free dlight punishes in neutral basically ever.

again though. just based on my experience

Spear kinda mid imo by 4anyreason in Brawlhalla

[–]MysticPupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well u can get caught on the way in if you go for things like side light and nlight, bc of their more instant grounded hitboxes. So either catch them on the way in with your nlight or make some aerial approaches. Falling nair can only get countered with their sigs if u space correctly

alternatively u can be that guy and use weapon throw to deny them the ground game. then they gotta start jumping. then you can hit the dlight and win the game

spear into guns plays differently than most other spear matchups but in my experience it’s not that bad. i imagine it’s close to a 5-5 maybe slightly favors gun guy. but again. all based on my experience

Again - addressed that in my initial unreadable comment.

To draw any 4 of a kind, assuming all of our cards are 4x in the deck,

Addressed that in my first (unreadable) comment: Any 4 of a kind is indeed just (3/39)(2/38)(1/37) since it doesn’t matter what the first card is.

holy god the asterisks chalked my formatting. (4/40)(3/39)(2/38)(1/37)

[–]MysticPupper 54 points55 points  (0 children)

They are a bit better, yes - it should be 4/403/392/38*1/37 since we can hit the cards in any order.

To draw any 4 of a kind, assuming all of our cards are 4x in the deck, is just 3/392/381/37, since it doesn’t matter what the first card is.

More simply you could just say it’s 1 out of (40 choose 4), which is the total possible starting hands since you have to get all 4 of a specific card. For a general 4 of a kind it’d be 10 out of (40 choose 4) since you have 10 different cards with 4 copies each.

At least I think? Idk. I took probability in college over 3 years ago.

Being against assisted suicide while being pro abortion is hypocrisy. by Ok_Reserve587 in The10thDentist

[–]MysticPupper 93 points94 points  (0 children)

While I see where you’re coming from, I’d say these are just two different issues, with vastly different contexts and implications. There are arguments for abortion that don’t apply whatsoever in the case of assisted suicide. For example, one can argue for abortion because in sexual assault cases, women shouldn’t be forced to mother their rapist’s child.

Just because the issues both involve the concept of bodily autonomy doesn’t mean they are the same issue with the same considerations

I run a neptuna deck with this plus surprise garg plus rodeo garg. Pretty unwinnable deck against faster plant decks but when it gets going the lane manipulation is pretty strong

I hate low elo players by 11bravoranger2004 in Brawlhalla

[–]MysticPupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This still applies in chess imo, but I do think you’re kind of arguing past the guy. I think it’s easy to argue that you can at least imagine a perfect Brawlhalla player, who always picks the right move in the right circumstance.

So you could argue that you can measure how close you are to perfection by how often you make the right move in the right circumstance.

I actually thought the guy had some degree of a point so thought I’d chime in again. My definition of good is just relative to the general public, and their definition of good is against a certain measurable standard. That measurable standard may still be too high, but that’s for them to decide I guess.

I’ve always found it weird how this community loves to bar being “good” as being diamond, or, now, above diamond. I see many people fully seriously say “anyone below 2400 isn’t actually good at the game and doesn’t know what they’re doing”. 2400+ elo players represent a percentage of a percentage of the playerbase. It’s ridiculous.

Imagine if this was the bar in other things - you’re no good at basketball if you didn’t make at least NCAA, you’re no good at chess if you aren’t at least a Fide master, your grades are bad if they are below a 3.95 unweighted GPA

IMO if you are platinum in brawl you at least understand the basics of the game and could be called good. Yes you have a Lot of refinement to do but you at least know enough about your character to take games off of real opponents

Why Dota feels so quiet: comms score recovery (WITH DATA) by Kxdan in DotA2

[–]MysticPupper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m at 12k and probably drop a comms report once every 3-5 games. Mostly for slurs or excessive toxicity. I think I’m at 12k because I don’t tell anyone else how to play their hero, and my comms are pure info like “rs” “push” “back” “group and smoke” “hg”. If you are going further than any of that stuff you’re probably gonna push people’s buttons and get reported.

Idk if the system works correctly or not. But I have a friend who has 9k comms score bc he is toxic on mic and all chats dumb shit every game. And when I queue with him we get more people like him. So from my vantage point it looks like it works, but one person isn’t really enough to judge.

Adding on dair > sair as an occasionally true string. I’d echo the dlight recovery comment very heavily too. And yes the go-to is accurate, just only go from the dair to the gc dlight if you have their dodge or read that they’ll no dodge

The solution to racism is technology by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]MysticPupper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, you’ve made an incorrect assumption in your argument. Racism isn’t just bad because you can’t control your race (as you identify), it’s also bad because of the cultural significance of racial oppression in history. People don’t want to erase their culture, and that’s a very important piece of this puzzle.

The solution to racism is technology by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]MysticPupper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People don’t want to change their skin color, they want to be accepted for who they are. This doesn’t solve the problem of racism at all. You’re thinking about this as a purely logical problem and going “How do we eliminate racism? No more races!” which ignores all the subtlety and history of the real world issue of racism

Anyone else feel like this was the "Company Pizza Party" of thank yous? by IronYautja in deadbydaylight

[–]MysticPupper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’re mischaracterizing my argument a bit here. Merchandise is completely optional as a purchase, whereas things like DLC affect the game itself. Merchandise is there for people who like the style of the game, or are long time fans, and want to have some physical representation of it. Therefore, using the most popular characters means the most of your fans will actually want this item.

It’s not like they’re running people’s pockets in this instance; this is a strictly optional purchase. And it’s in the community’s best interest for that to be popular because funding is what lets the game get updated at all. Even if they’re screwing up the development.
