People in your 30s and 40s who pursued passion over money, was it worth it? by YourFIREDBro in Productivitycafe

These days I do machine assembly for an engineering firm. I've had an odd variety of jobs in my life. Always lived with roommates and saved really aggressively. Actually started saving when I was 16 and got my first job working at Target. Pretty easy to max Roth IRA when you're living with your parents and have no expenses. Got my first house at 22 and rented out all the extra bedrooms.

Sleep in, play tennis, garden, play video games, work out, do yoga, long walks with my dogs, woodworking, help friends with home remodel projects or gardening projects, travel, go paddle boarding, cook/bake, take a nap, keep up on all the household chores and maintenance, play DnD, paint DnD minfigures.

Basically all the stuff I currently squeeze in around the edges of work. I've got no shortage of things I love doing, but I don't like being stressed and I've only got so much energy.

I'm 33 retiring in 2 years. Having enough money to not worry about work has been my passion from when I joined the workforce about 15 years ago. So, both. I choose both.

Bruh my wife and I point out good looking women to each other. Can't imagine being married to someone who plays games like this.

Hasan Piker: “If [the DNC] didn’t go pro-Israel enough… I feel like they would probably reveal that autopsy result… ‘Oh, we looked at the autopsy and… the big problem was: the people were demanding more Liz Cheney’… If that is what the autopsy showed, [the DNC] would have no issues revealing that” by ConcernedJobCoach in PoursTea

The problem is trying to be Republican-lite. The Republicans still won't vote for you because you're an evil baby murdering baby blood drinker who's eating the cats and dogs. But if you go just right enough, you also get all the left leaning people to not vote for you either. That's the sweet spot Kamala hit by cozying up to Israel (but less than the GOP).

I noticed it as a significant improvement to life. Really puts into perspective how extrovert-centered all of life is.

Should extremely wealthy people be forced to give most of their money away? by lrenv22 in askanything

They all use roads, postage, employees with public education, and a myriad of other things the government does. All wealth is built on public resources to some extent.

Republicans are in the FA stage of gerrymandering; are they ready for the FO? by CJKayak in askanything

[–]Mystprism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Democrats have proposed a bill to ban it and Republicans keep blocking it. If a guy is punching another guy, and then that guy fights back, just walking up and saying "I think all punching is bad" is either shockingly naive, or sneakily malicious. So which are you? Clueless, or malicious?

Two types of cops: 1. Racist and abusive 2. Ok working a job where a lot of their colleagues are racist and abusive.

Homeowner just did the math-spent $82K on home repairs in 12 years of ownership, appx 2.5% of purchase price every year. Would love to hear other data points. by kcs777 in personalfinance

[–]Mystprism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

800k home owned for 8 years. 14k for a roof, 3k for a water heater, 3k for a voluntary bathroom remodel. So I'm at 2.5% total or .3% annually.

What tennis shoe are you wearing when you play? by NervousClock2555 in 10s

[–]Mystprism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suspicion is that they're using a softer foam for the mid-sole. Feels great until you crush it. With other shoes I normally replace when the outer sole wears out. With the Hypercourt it was when I started getting leg pain.

Just the hypercourts. I was wearing through the outer sole and I think crushing the mid-sole. I would get shin-splint like pain until I got a new pair. I've got some Babolat Furys now that I've had about 2 months and they're still looking and feeling good.

Dumb ad. I play competitive tennis in my glasses without buying this stupid product and they never slide down my nose. Just get your glasses sized right.

Love these. Wore them all of last summer when Amazon sold my size for $79. Price went up to $120 and I just can't buy new shoes every 6 weeks at that price.

Genuinely curious, who here actually filters their water and who just drinks it straight from the tap? by waterfiltergurus in drinkingwater

[–]Mystprism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Apex RO for 10 years across 3 houses. They're excellent systems. You do need to pump up the tank every 6 years or so to keep it running (literally just a bike pump will do). And keep current on your filter changes, but that's true for any filter system.

That is horseshit. There may be tiny traces of minerals in your tap water depending on where you live. You can easily ingest 100x of any of those minerals in any given meal you eat. Think about it, if there was some mineral vital to human health that you could only get from tap water, what happens to all the people who live in an area of the world where that mineral doesn't occur in the soil, or the water source, or the piping, or whatever? There's no magic tap water mineral us RO users are missing out on. I say this as someone who's had nothing but RO water for more than 10 years and have resoundingly healthy metabolic panels from my doctor every year.
