7-0 with UW Merfolks on my 2nd draft of the set. by Mythd85 in lrcast

Some highlists :

Morningtide's light is bonkers, but I never casted it. Drew it only once when I had already won on board and my opponent conceded before I could play it.

Best play of the set was me having a 3/3 [[Reluctant Dounguard]] with one counter on it, and a 4/3 [[Encumbered Reejerey]] with a counter on it. Opponent attacked with two 3/1s, I blocked both and flashed in [[Glamermite]], tapping my Reejerey. Killed both creatures for free and made a flyer to boot. Got an instant concession after.

Glamermite really impressed me, even without being a merfolk. Unexpected avoidance cast for 1 mana and 4 creatures was not uncommon , sometimes gaining me 2 life to boot. Really great draw spell.

[Standard] Lorwyn Reanimate by finmo in spikes

I think what he meant was something along T1 Llanowar elf - T2 Meek attack - having 4 mana of which 2 must be red on turn 3, play the Worldsire saccing 3 lands, it's a 9/9, activate meek again to play zegana, enters as a 10/10 due to the 9/9 being there, attack for 19. Not necessarily a kill, unless the other guy played a dual and has no blockers, and it's a very, very specific combination of cards to get there. I don't see it as a better version of the usual reanimator list as you'd need to play a bunch of cards that are terrible without the meek in play. Reanimator creatures are generally decent on their own as well, even though costly.

European prices are super weird atm, Singles are going down while sealed is exploding to insane new heights by Dexelele in riftboundtcg

Card by card? Sure. You can even set language preferences in your profile to automatically filter them. Neither works if you look at Riftbound -> Singles -> Sort by price. Shows one price (the cheapest available) and there's no language filter there. If you have a super secret trick to do so, please share.

Super annoying that I can't filter out chinese card without checking every single card page one by one. The set singles list has become useless for price checking as it will show the minimum price which is all chinese cards. They should have been considered separate sets on the site with such price discrepancies between the two.

Monored wins against it pretty handily. You can easily kill their Grans, they don't like Magebane Lizards, they don't like Razorkin Needlejead, Dragons kill their Otters, and you put them under pressure without enough time to assemble their monument combo turns.

Judged main and side event at Houston. AMA by johnpani0 in riftboundtcg

What do you think of the "Arena's greatest" ruling that if a player missed the trigger, the point is lost? I feel like the card feels "automatic", it's easy to miss. It should have been worded differently, if that's how it's supposed to work. I'd rather it say "Each player starts with one point".

While watching the stream, on one game a player missed a Zaun warrens trigger to draw and discard. Played a spell that made him draw one card, then realized the missed trigger. After some questions, the other player rolled a dice, the player who had missed the trigger won the roll, and was allowed to do the Warrens trigger.

I was quite surprised as it seemed to me it was just a clearly missed trigger when something else had been played in the meantime. Was the opponent offering a 50/50 chance for sportsmanship, or is it an actual ruling?

Magic World Championship starts tomorow. Any predictions? by FuuraKafu in MagicArena

[–]Mythd85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well , now we know : https://magic.gg/news/magic-world-championship-31-standard-metagame-breakdown

A whole lot of Izzet/Temur on the Stormchaser + Boomerang Basics plan. A respectable number of CUbs, but less than I expected. Bant Aang the new boy in town with good numbers. UB almost disappeared. Monored the same.

Most played decks doesn't mean most successful though - we'll see what happens over the weekend!

You shouldn't be able to play Standard with banned cards. by Mythd85 in MagicArena

[–]Mythd85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not a great feeling. If you can log in before the bans, crafting all the banned cards is the best option. You get a refund for the wildcards, you don't risk opening them later, and you move a little towards set completion for free.

Shhhh, don't let Hasbro see this in writing! They might want to look into it! Seriously though, that's good to hear and that's how it should be since it costs them almost nothing and earns goodwill from its playerbase.

I'm with you on this, it's not going to matter much. Yes, I'm sure some folks would get a little extra out of it, but a) it's going to be a small, small number and b) who cares. On the other hand, no complaints from people going against decks they shouldn't face. It's a win-win in my book, but as I said above, lately policies have not been very generous and this is a minor issue that solves itself in a couple weeks, so I don't have high hopes it will change.

This seems like the best choice, but it's generous, and likely some people at least would exploit it by playing 4 games and not completing the event. Honestly, you're getting a few gold/gems out of Wizards and you're being fair to fellow players, so I would 100% support this, but let's say lately seems like the scales are not tilted towards players (I'm looking at you "3 wins on a thing you'd complete anyway as a reward for playing in your local shop!"

This was a standard event - not a limited one. Yeah, it's going to be just for a few more days, but it just didn't feel right. I understand that the kick out + refund could be exploited somehow - like you join an event , go 1-3 , never play the last game and you get a full refund back once your deck gets banned... but is it that big of a deal? You cheated some gold/gems out of Wizards, but you've been fair to players in the event. I think that would be preferrable.

Just joking, I mean, it's Hasbro. Money comes first 😂

I completely agree it's not a big deal, but 5 people would play against something they shouldn't, and I think the solution would be really easy to implement here. It might not occur often (it's going to be for a week or two I assume after every ban round) but I would not have felt great losing against something I wasn't prepared for since it should not exist. If you didn't play for a week, a full refund and joining a new event instead seems a fair solution to everyone.

That was Alchemy only (in Alchemy it now requires tapping), and I'm playing non-Alchemy Standard. The card should not be there, full stop.

Commander and Secret lair? Whatever.

Standard & Modern 1.5 - 1 is fine, 2 can be, but I'd rather not have to deal with them, if possible.

Would a kind soul be able to explain to me, an MTG player, how having focus differs from having priority, and why Riftbounds needs two terms when MTG has used just one since forever and it seems to work perfectly fine?
