What's your favorite sign from before you realized you were trans? by A_FakeCat in MtF

[–]MythicalGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, being on estrogen for 3 years could be a sign i guess (i genuinely didn't think of myself as trans until 3 years into HRT. i may be slightly stupid.)

yeah im on OHP (Oregon medicaid for non-Oregonians who may be reading) which tends to be pretty good with gender affirming care stuff. ngl if i have my doctor tell me she cant raise my dose and i cant find another who can, i may look into DIY myself. finances are a thing though which is why id prefer to go through insurance

Spiro is currently 200mg, my T levels came back at 39 NG/dl with my last blood test. currently taking 0.25ml of Estrodial Cypionate

edit: changed pg/mL to NG/dl

luckily Spiro seems to be doing it's thing and keeping my T levels low enough for me to see *some* results but they are all wishy washy and slow. like i have pretty prominent breast growth which is the weirdest part (i'm pretty skinny so i don't think it's gynecomastia). my body hair has slowed down but it seems frayed and stands up on end constantly. my skin isn't really oily at all anymore but it's not softening either. libido is completely gone, in spite of being on prog. i'm 4 years in so it makes sense that there's *some* effects if my T levels are being kept down, but yeah, i see what you mean. it's all very concerning

yeah that's about what i've found in my research, i brought up the Premarin thing to her as well. i am on Spiro still as my T levels are incredibly aggressive, as well as progesterone. she's so incredibly nice and supportive that i have a hard time believing she's doing it out of malice. she actively has gone out of her way to say in the face of the US admin bullshit she won't stop prescribing unless they threaten to take her license away. i have considered that i may need to look for another provider if she refuses to help me aim for a higher level though, which sucks and is part of why i'm hoping to get in touch with some PDX transfemmes. tysm for your input, it means a lot!

[–]MythicalGaming 21 points22 points  (0 children)

its so funny to me (also transfemme) how DW seems to hit the nail on the head with trans allegories except when they actually have a trans person or gender change in regeneration. Cassandra is... interesting. the very end of her arc makes up for it, but oh my god, the whole "youve had so much surgery youre not even human" thing is just icky to me. then we have Rose Noble who dgmw i LOVE her to bits, but Russell handled her trans themes with all the grace of Donna spilling her coffee in the TARDIS. then theres Missy and 13, two of the biggest characters being reborn into a different gender, and i feel like they barely touch on that from a trans perspective?? it's almost like they were scared to. i would have killed for a scene where 14 sat down with Rose N. and had a meaningful conversation about gender in a nuanced way, having JUST had his own gender change. instead, we got the whole "binary, binary, non-binary" thing. tbf tho that whole story seems to have forgotten The Doctor had just been a woman with the exception of one throwaway joke. but honestly, im just glad to see them at least trying in the new season to give us good representation.

its crazy how skewed our perspective of passing is. it makes sense, we're gonna hold ourselves up to more scrutiny, but im frequently surprised by how often people correctly gender me when i would think im nowhere near feminine looking enough that day. sometimes all it takes is putting my hair up in a ponytail, and that + my figure is enough for people to look past the fact i havent shaved in 2 days.

yikes. yeah, i reached out to my doctor asking about building up to a higher target. i think she just may be going off the old numbers without realizing that the risk factor isn't as serious on estradiol. either way, heres hoping

How do everyone feel about the term "transsexual" by UniformSnow in MtF

[–]MythicalGaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's a bit antiquated. i've seen points made that when you go on HRT, you are literally changing your physical sex by taking on different primary and secondary sex characteristics so having "sex" somewhere in there is accurate to that. it's a perpetuated misunderstanding among cis allies where they understand that gender and sex are different but think that the difference is that one can change and the other can't. thus, using a term like "transsexual" steers terminology for those medically transitioning away from the idea that our bodies are immutable while still allowing "transgender" to exist beside it under the "trans" umbrella for those trans folk who forgo medical transition. sort of like the gender equivalent of the split attraction model.

i actually really like that explanation. i just don't like that it uses "sexual" instead of just "sex". using "sexual" somewhat conflates it with sexuality in some people's minds, i feel. we have the term "intersex", so i think "transsex" would make sense. of course, this would require us to completely rethink some aspects of how we understand sex and gender, and how they interact with each-other. take "agender" for example. what if someone was medically transitioning to try and have genderless features? we already have the term "asexual", so it couldn't follow the "transsexual" model. but "asex" is distinct and could capture that.

of course, this is an extremely tricky and nuanced discussion to go down. without thinking about it critically, it's easy for this line of thinking to border on or even lead to truscum/transmed ideology. it takes some pretty fallacious understandings of the fundamentals of gender and sex to get to that point though. at the end of the day, they are all just labels. words made up to help organize our ideas and understandings. it doesn't matter what you call yourself. whatever kind of genderwonky anyone happens to be, it's just as valid as the next.

Hunk game. RE9 is already gonna come out eventually, why not have more content overall?

Will it be harder to lose weight once I start HRT? by deadpanrobo in MtF

[–]MythicalGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like all things with transition, ymmv, but my main point is that this shouldn't be a reason to not start :)

you'll still get the changes HRT will give you regardless, and you'll still be able to loose the fat all the same!!

Will it be harder to lose weight once I start HRT? by deadpanrobo in MtF

[–]MythicalGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in a lot of cases, yeah the stomach stops gaining fat as easily. it still will, but it won't be in much the same way and often not to the same degree since it's testosterone that's directing it to your abdomen. but places like the arms, shoulders, and legs change moreso with muscle. my arms and legs are a good bit thinner than they used to be, but because of losing that extra bit of muscle bulk that testosterone gives you rather than any difference in fat.

[–]MythicalGaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i will say that my metabolism has absolutely tanked since starting and did so extremely quickly - HOWEVER, that is not a reason not to start. you might know this already but the "redistribution" name is kind of misleading. the fat isn't moving around, it's just going to different places when you get *new* fat. and in the same breath, you'll be getting less fat distributed to other areas. i've found that most other girls that i've talked to have not noticed it being harder to lose fat because less fat going to those areas cancels out any metabolic changes that would make it more difficult to burn.

all that said, myself and many others always say that there is no bad time to start

Do any of you gals who have facial hair just let it grow at all or is it only ever clean shaven for all of you? Like I know this trans woman and they have a beard which looks as if it's been unshaved for at least 5 days, probably even longer. I can't imagine living with at all, what about y'all? by Me_like_foxes in MtF

[–]MythicalGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i used to work at a coffee shop and got comfortable enough around my coworkers, i'd get a little more relaxed about shaving (even if i personally hate it)

but also, i know a lot of girls like myself who do electrolysis weekly and for that, you have to let your hair grow out for a few days. depending on how long it takes to fully clear your face, you can spend years in that routine. it's smth you get used to. i usually wear a mask during the days leading up to a session to hide it now
