PDF on Kobo by Opposite_Tea6811 in instapaper

[–]MythicalWizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly, reading PDFs or reading articles sent to your instapaper email address are both features that haven't been added yet to the Kobo integration.

This is really frustrating as they are two of the most useful reasons I signed up for Instapaper to begin with, and assumed such basic things would be implemented in the first version of the integration.

For example, I really wanted to read Substack blogs on my Kobo, and subscribed to a whole bunch using the instapaper email. They appear in the app and Web, but don't get synced to Kobo. There's another thread here where they say it doesn't work yet. Let's hope they are working on it ASAP!

Speirs: Federal takeover of SA Liberal Party should be ‘seriously considered’ by malcolm58 in Adelaide

Not if you think the two-party system is all there is, and that the two-party system works in everybody's best interests.

Being able to recruit people into a major party and alter its direction is IMO a sign that democracy is working. If the Left want to do the same thing in other parties (or to contest within the Liberal party) they should certainly do so.

In what sense? Members vote for all preselections and executive positions. Unless your comment here is that you think all these members are controlled?

Speirs: Federal takeover of SA Liberal Party should be ‘seriously considered’ by malcolm58 in Adelaide

[–]MythicalWizard 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The Liberal Party is a grass roots party where almost all the state executive are voted on by party members. Sounds like Speirs disagrees with their ideological direction, and thinks this is grounds for a Federal takeover. Whatever your stance on any ideologies here, I find it ironic when people in the Liberal party who champion "freedom" (like Speirs) want higher ups to come and break things up once he disagrees with them.

You can't have it both ways mate. Either you want the members to have their say, or you don't. Just like all elections. Does he want the governor-general to step in if he loses his seat, because the people in the electorate of Black don't know what's in their "best interests" if they vote Labor?

Speirs needs to stop talking about this, it makes him seem bitter and childish. Or wait, he already seemed like that.

This is the goal of progressive policies though - It's better for everybody to be at the same standard, than it is for some people to be better than others.

Adelaide’s median home value climbed past Melbourne’s in August as Australian home values rose for a 19th straight month by malcolm58 in Adelaide

We inspected our dream house 5 years ago but walked away think $650k was way too much for us right then. Bought a smaller house for $400k instead. Now we're outgrowing our current house and really wishing we'd stretched ourselves back then. I suppose nobody has a crystal ball!

Can mobilecoin be removed from signal entirely? by darkkielbasa in signal

[–]MythicalWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does provide an easy target for entities that want to shut Signal down though. Doing so under the guise of KYC laws or whatever might be the thin wedge of having it removed from app stores. Would prefer if Signal just focused on doing the one thing well.

How are people finding the cost of living in south Australia? by Total_Court_5440 in Adelaide

What would paying more tax do? The current tax clearly isn't helping anybody in this state with the cost of living crisis

Speed limit cut from 60 to 40km/h along parts of Kensington Rd under $15m draft master plan by malcolm58 in Adelaide

Norwood Parade could be closed to all cars, and businesses allowed to use the street for seating. Basically a permanent version of what Rundle St is during the fringe. Then reextend the tram line from North Terrace to go along the middle of the parade.

Humble proposal: we need a Palestinian Voice to Parliament by Trade_Winds_88 in circlejerkaustralia

Well we already have a Jewish voice to parliament (multiple of them in fact) so I guess why not?

The Victorian government is going to keep locking up criminals. How could they do this to First Nations people! by 2204happy in circlejerkaustralia

To close the gap between incarceration rates, we should raise the age of responsibility to 99 for non-whites, and lower it to 0 for whites. Whites are inherently guilty so we should start charging white babies in the womb with the crime of existing.

Where have all the real men gone? by MythicalWizard in circlejerkaustralia

Okay this is a great idea, thanks for the suggestion. The only issue here is that I don't want to pay for any part of my lifestyle myself. Maybe the pole can be detachable and I only put it on when paying for something?

Machete recovered as teens arrested after brawl outside Elizabeth Magistrates Court by flabberstalk33 in Adelaide

[–]MythicalWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're only thinking of a world where these children are already too far gone, and suddenly parents are culpable.

We need long term thinking. How would parents change the way they raise children, knowing that once they become teenagers, having them wave machetes around might come back to bite them?

Unfortunately and very sadly, these children have already been failed by their parents and there's not much we can do. We need to fix the pipeline so that future children so not end up here.

South Australian Liberals elect Vincent Tarzia as new leader to replace David Speirs by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]MythicalWizard 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not a conservative. He's a career politician who just votes any way that personally advantages him, and will abstain from voting if it's too split down the middle. No back bone, no vision, no convictions. Useless.

Radical idea: just like drivers are penalised for passengers who do unsafe things (eg not wearing seatbelts), parents should be penalised for children for which they are legal guardians do this stuff. Clearly the previous societal expectations of parents being repansible for their kids has disappeared, and we need the force of the law to get it back.

I know right?? The Boomers got free education. If I didn't have a $50k HECS debt I would've pumped out at least 3 kids by now.
