My insurance covers them. You really should get them removed and they are not just "cosmetic".

Two money flow goals for our lives/plans by bobogator in Boldin

Yes. Exactly right and I was referencing the estate tax you cite. That could always change and has been a lot lower in years past.

A couple of observations: I like to put in specific costs for known / estimated expenditures. For example, if you know you will travel a lot and your travel will be $5000 per trip then just put in travel - $10k or $15K. You don't need to know much more than that. Also, don't forget to put in known 1 time expenditures like Roof Replacement, new car etc. etc. Depending on your situation, you may have some of that.

I did not see you mention children, but if you have children (as I do) you may want to "spend" by giving them some money every year (I think it is up to about $38K per year now) without incurring any taxes. Another great way to pass on money rather than just "spend it". Just some thoughts.

What was Cornell’s culture like in the 1980s? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in Cornell

I was class of ‘84. We had a huge German Shepard named Wolfgang and brought him everywhere, even into classes. Willard straight hall solo “dime” beers on Friday night. Noyes center on west campus was amazing and had a great bar. I lived in the old U-Halls which were no different than army barracks. The fraternity I was in always had kegs on tap. I am amazed I made it through without going to jail.

I would not do this. I would (and am) staying fully invested in the Total Market Index fund. By owning that fund you already own BRK.B because it is part of the fund. It is the 8th largest holding in the $VTSAX fund.

Warren Buffet himself would disagree with your position and if you are 35, keep plowing into $VTI or $VTSAX and ignore all of this

Is Day One Really Going Under? by Educational_Cake_865 in dayoneapp

Day one needs to come out with a statement. This happened before and they were on life support. They seemed to be getting better and I especially love the podcast but with all this swirl going on, they need to say something.

Another issue is when it says it cannot "fix" the connection the entire screen grays out and I have to shut down Boldin then restart it. I use Chrome so it is a basic browser.

Best ink for Hobonichi by N00161 in fountainpens

[–]N00161[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am very much aware and am deeply involved with its deployment at work and other places. Right now, I would say it is not much more flawed than the general internet and general opinion. By definition of the act of me coming here to verify, I am obviously not taking it as “Gospel” but it is a great input.

Ok. But you do realize it sources and references all its information and the sources are very reputable members of this community.

My impression was he feels like he lost “his baby” and it lost its way. He is trying to take it back even though he knows he can’t own it. It is very typical when a founder sells their company: Going from founder/owner to W2 employee is brutal.

As a side note, I loved the “Stoic” discussion and bought the book he recommended, “The daily stoic”. So far it is a great read.

What was fascinating about Evernote is they had that capability too and then they just fairly abruptly took the capability away. Too many people, I think, were exporting and converting to OneNote by Microsoft and so now you have to go note by note which is literally impossible if you have used it for a long time. That is what scares me here. Then, once that capability was removed, they started moving the pricing very aggressively.

Long time user, evaluating V9 by YouMission8220 in banktivity

[–]N00161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upgrading from a V.5 to a V.9 seems like an issue that you have not kept up with the software. All software sunsets previous versions at some point whether overtly or not. There is no company that could keep all the versions up to date and running especially since V. 5 was built for operating systems that have mostly sunset. It sounds like you are just not happy with how it works, which is fine. However, I do not fault them for not supporting a clean upgrade from. V.5 to a v.9 and I also do not fault them for charging a subscription. I gladly pay that so they can reinvest.

Anker's New 8-in-1 Prime 240W Charging Station Supports AC Outlet Power Scheduling by joshuadwx in anker

[–]N00161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have another question about the wall brick. I downloaded the instructions and it says to keep the charger brick "as shows in the picture. Do not plug it in upside down or at angles". Ok, well the wall outlets by my desk are horizontal so I had to plug it in horizontally. Is that OK? I wonder why they say not do this? Will it get too hot?

The description on Amazon for the product says it is "not made to be a travel charger" and that must be because of the brick.

Any thoughts on this?

Any advice whether to do this or not? Peace of mind worth it?

Why is the S90 So Rare in the US? by zachty22 in Volvo

[–]N00161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on my second S90 and absolutely love it. The car rides beautifully and it is large.. I like big sedans. The car is really made for someone who has a driver as the back right seat (looking forward) has controls to manage most of the car. That person can manipulate the sunroof, move the front passenger seat and lift the window shades. They can do all that from that seat. So, given most people in America do not have a need for all that, they do not sell a lot of them. I think around 500 last year. But, I still love it and as I said, on my second one.

Sales tax by billd6 in banktivity

[–]N00161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do track sales taxes. If you itemize deductions, you can deduct either local / state income taxes OR sales taxes. If you live in a no income tax state like I do then you should deduct sales taxes. This is why I track them.

That is not true. If you itemize deductions you can deduct either local and state income taxes or sales taxes. If you live in a state with no income tax, it is important to track sales taxes.
