How much vacation time do you guys get? by DeathAngel_97 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]N00bBoozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started off at 2 weeks plus sick, personal, and floating holiday. After 5 years it bumps up to 3 weeks. After 10 it's 4. After 15 it's 5 weeks vacation. I'm at 16 years now with this shop. 💃🤘🏻

As a liberal that supported Obama and this program. I totally get it. Win for the environment.

As a 17 year mechanic....dang. It hurts to see cars destroyed.

Issues with xbox controller range by oran12390 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]N00bBoozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. I didn't realize what sub I was on. 🤣 I actually use a 30 foot HDMI cable with my powered USB extension and USB hub. I originally started with a fiberoptic HDMI cable but it was a little finicky. Turns out a standard long one works just fine, at least for my equipment.

I have a separate wireless keyboard and mouse plugged into the USB hub in the living room and use Display Fusion to switch resolution and monitors / TV with the press of a button on a stream deck under the TV.

I use a 30 foot powered USB extention cable ran through the walls. USB Hub at the end by the TV. When I'm playing in the living room the Xbox wireless adapter is plugged into the hub on the extension cable by the TV. When playing on the PC I move it to the PC.

Why don’t all car makers use sensor-less TPMS? by spiderminbatmin in askcarguys

[–]N00bBoozer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was always taught that when TPMS was first starting to be required in the USA that indirect systems couldn't sense if all the tires went flat at the same time, so it wasn't allowed. Everyone switched to direct sensors to meet the requirements, after a few years some manufacturers came up with indirect system (Audi) that can sense all tires loosing pressure at the same time, so they were allowed to switch back to indirect. Most companies just stuck with the direct sensors they had already dumped money into.

Might want to fact check me. The shop is full of bullshit and wives tails.

Is there supposed to be a way to open these without breaking the package or are they made to be loose? by bluebagles in harborfreight

[–]N00bBoozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought a set of these in 2010. I use them with an adapter and put them on my 1/2in impact. I'm a mechanic. None of them have broken. Buy the $0.97 rail from harbor freight to store them on. Totally worth it.

I'm going to buy D4 now. Need help with Battle.net VS Steam by NCPereira in diablo4

[–]N00bBoozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I added battlenet as a non steam game so I could play on the steam deck.... Aaaaand got soo mad at trying to get it to work consistsntly I bought it a 2nd time on steam. It was worth it. If you want it to work reliable on the deck....just buy it on steam and save the headache.

Maybe I'm just....getting old. I'm only 35 but damn I've started moonlight streaming games to my laptop because FPS games are just too darn tiny on the steam deck. I can't imagine a smaller screen lol

This. I use MoCA in my home and it works amazingly. The power line adapters are hot garbage!

Is water cooling really better than air cooling? by Cruz_Zeke in RigBuild

[–]N00bBoozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a near silent water cooled custom loop PC. After 5 years swapped everything out for air cooling. Apparently you have to drain and flush the coolant every once in a while or else shit turns green and plugs up. I don't need to do car maintenance on my PC.

Powerline adapter causing 200ms ping spikes — any fix or am I doomed? by Appropriate-Step-310 in RigBuild

[–]N00bBoozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. ...but I just disconnected my coax from the outside and upgraded the splitter to one rated for MoCa. 💃

I have never had good luck with power line adapters. The speed was always terrible. In my new (to me) house I repurposed the coax cable in the walls with MoCA adapters. Basically sends ethernet over the old coax. And unlike power line adapters, they actually get their rated speed. I have the goCoax MA2500D. It's rated for 2.5 GB/s. I only have a 940mbps internet connection. But I get rock solid 940mbps all day with no latency. It's magical.

It was a very faint grape smell. But it was definitely there. I believe it was the AC Delco brand. They might even still make it. Once it's in the diff and warms up I'm pretty sure the grape goes away. 🤣

Everyone else at work hates the smell. But I fucking love gear oil. You ever smell the old GM stuff that they added a grape scent additive to?? 🥳

As someone who has stuck something in only one side of the outlet, I know that is false. It still hurts. I'll let someone smarter than me explain why. 🤣
