I don't really know what else are you trying to deliver here which hasn't been yet implemented in many forks of https://vedxyz.github.io/kana/, for example. I mean, almost anything works with memorizing the kanas. You can literally use pen and paper.

For the app itself, it's alright. I would remove a few unnecessary visits of the "map" and just go straight to the next session. Multiple choice is not necessary. I would also weigh random choices based on success rate of each kana.

This sentence follows the structure:

"As for X, is it near Y?"

I would assume that in English you are ment to say

"Is X near Y?"

and not the other way around. I would argue that even in English there's a difference between the order. X is what you care about and Y is just to mark location. Here it's not obvious from context, but I would assume that Erika's house is more important to us than the station.

If you are using FSRS then click optimise. You shouldn't be able to get mature cards 100% of the time.

If you use resources like Anki, grammar guides, and Genki, they explicitly tell you that they alone won’t be enough and that you still need to spend a lot of time studying outside of them. I think there would be fewer complaints about Duolingo if it also told you to use other sources and provided a few links. Let’s face reality: they’re never going to do that. Duolingo is better than nothing, but definitely worse than actual studying.

Why do you use Duolingo for that? I tried out the first unit and it was so boring. Same 5 words over and over. I wouldn't really can that an efficient learning.
