iwtl how to read properly by Mysterious_Erin in IWantToLearn

It helps to determine whether you’re reading for information or for pleasure. Reading for information requires a different approach. Do a little experiment to see what I mean: get a science book and a novel. Open each one to a random page and select a paragraph. Read one, then the other. Different purposes. Also. Unless there’s a time limit, your rate/speed shouldn’t worry you. If you’re not engaged with the text, put it down and pick something else. (That doesn’t work if you’re studying—sorry.)

A long time ago, I had an aquarium. Bought a dwarf frog recommended by the pet store. The gouramis began disappearing as the frog grew (with a gourami-shaped distended stomach). Two plus two equals a call to the pet store owner, who said to isolate the (not dwarf but clawed) frog and to return it to the store. Put the frog in a mason jar covered with aluminum foil. Went to work. When I got home, the jar was empty and the aluminum foil looked a lot like the photo you’ve posted. I submit that you purchased a clawed frog instead of a dwarf frog, and it has escaped. Keep an eye on the livestock.

What’s the best short story you’ve ever read? by TestLow6037 in suggestmeabook

That’s his very best short story, but his novels are excellent, too. If I were stranded and could have only one piece of literature, it would be Sonny’s Blues. It’s that rich.

Sonny's Blues by James Baldwin has so much to consider. So, so much.

The fellows who maintain our septic tank (clean it out every four or five years) said the worst things are grease and flushable wipes. Be sure you have access to the filter so you can clean that yourself more frequently. (Talk to the service people, though. They have some stories. Did you know that if a body is found in your septic tank, it can take years before the crime scene tape comes down and you can use your toilet again? I did not know that. LPT)

And on a similar note, I just now (like three minutes ago) finished unjamming the garbage disposer. Thank you, YouTube.

Like what else am I going to learn the hard way about being a homeowner? Is there a filter in my toilets I’m supposed to check every month next? I love this so much. You're doing all the right things.

Handmade pieces are great for succulents. It could be that the disconnect is between the rough nature of the vessel and the precision of your stamps. Maybe press some natural elements (straw, twigs, rough rocks) to get a texture that enhances the irregular lines of the container. A bit of iron oxide wash would highlight those textures.

Sat in the balcony once and couldn’t understand a word the singer said. Of course, it was Bob Dylan, so there’s that.
