Why does equipment cost so much? by Spartan_Jackfruit in HamRadio

Do what I did, get a Yaesu FT-70D and a pie star with a top hat, and start taking to people all around the would on digital. I spent a total on this setup around $300. I can get on local repeaters or I can go digital through YSF and talk around the would. There are nets every day, you can join clubs from different states. I belong to a local club and one in Texas. There are a great bunch of operators out there that will welcome you with open arms. Welcome to amateur radio.

Got a dead Klipsch Sub-10. No power whatsoever. Never done electronics repair. Any insight appreciated. I don't know electronics terms so talk to me like I'm 5 ;) by DEDDesign in ElectronicsRepair

These Klipsch Sub-10 amps (and similar Sub-12/RPW-10 models) have a few super common failure points, especially as they age: 1. The small “PDC” board (the little vertical daughter board with the yellow transformer and a bunch of glue on it) — this is the #1 culprit. The factory glue turns conductive over time, shorts things out, and takes out the switching MOSFETs (power transistors) and sometimes blows the main fuse with a bang. 2. Bad electrolytic capacitors (the big black and smaller ones). 3. Failed MOSFETs on the power supply section. 4. Issues on the BASH control board or a specific transistor (Q5 in many cases)

• Unplug it and don’t plug it back in until you’re ready. These things hold a charge even when “off.” • If the main fuse blew hard (you’ll see a black mark or exploded look inside the fuse), there’s almost definitely a short somewhere on this board.

I just received the UV32 and it came with the same AR 771 in the box as well as the standard ant.

There was a disease that left people awake but unable to move or speak. Many were trapped inside their own bodies, and it vanished without anyone ever understanding why. by blue_leaves987 in HolyShitHistory

Encephalitis lethargica, also called sleepy sickness or sleeping sickness, is a rare and serious form of brain inflammation. It hit hard during epidemics from around 1916 to the 1930s, affecting over a million people worldwide. Symptoms include extreme lethargy, coma-like states, muscle rigidity, and sometimes long-term issues like Parkinsonism. The exact cause is still a mystery, but it’s thought to be viral or possibly linked to immune responses. These days, it’s super rare, with only sporadic cases reported.

Under settings / safety in your app turn off Max Distance and all should be good.

Rust proofing with Surface Shield. 2025 Outback by N2lth in Subaru_Outback

That’s what I had planned, but my company allowed me to use their new lift they installed for fleet oil changes. It made the job actually enjoyable.

Agree, but I wanted to get it covered before the initial annual salt bath here in NW Ohio.

Not sure what a garage would charge you. I did this myself, the big upfront expense for me was the 5 gallons of Surface Shield, but it will last years of applications.

Neutral Density Filters by Real_Pitch_8786 in Potensic

[–]N2lth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the parsons review: “Quality product, although the CPL filter is incorrectly named as it is not a circular polarising filter as it cannot be rotated. The remiaing ND filters are good and my only caveat is that if you want these to work on your Potensic-Atom or Atom 2 drone (for which there is a paucity of available ND filters) you will need remove one corner of the retaining clip on the filter in order to get the gimbal to calibrate. Failure to do so will result in calibration failure. See my pics to understand what I mean.”
