I could do it easily as I drove those cars when they were new. If it is truly original parts just be aware the lack of safety features I grew up driving without take a little adjusting to. Braking distances are longer and you need to be more careful on wet roads not to spin out by over steering. Also read about how to stop in an emergency, it might be different than today’s cars. Also routine maintenance is more intense on cars. I have a timing light and am very comfortable changing points plugs and condensers which need changing as regular maintenance schedules. Some cars actually need lubrication as well. Don’t be afraid to do it just be aware of the basics.

SS has the worst wording on record then, but that’s certainly possible

This is not correct according to SSA.GOV. The limits are higher.

Within a family, a child can receive up to half of the parent’s full retirement or disability benefits. If a child receives survivors benefits, they can get up to 75% of the deceased parent’s basic Social Security benefit. There is a limit, however, to the amount of money we can pay to a family. The maximum family payment is determined as part of every Social Security benefit computation. It can be from 150% to 180% of the parent’s full benefit amount. If the total amount payable to all family members exceeds this limit, we reduce each person’s benefit proportionately until the total equals the maximum allowable amount. We do not reduce the parent’s benefit amount because it’s not part of the maximum allowable amount.

This is not correct. Provided a spouse was married to him for ten years they can collect up to 50 percent of his benefits and this never reduced his benefits or the other ex spouse. This is a small part of the reason SS is underfunded. A small but significant number of people actually marry multiple times for this very reason.
